I bought a ford freestar 2004 in 2015 and I had over $1500 work done on it. well now the check engine light is back on and my batter light is blinking on and off. I wonder if all the recalls were done on it before I got it. how do I find out? I got a recall notice in the mail early 2015 right after I bought it because of a third row seat but never had the time to do it.

I bought a 2004 Ford SEL Freestar van here in Europe from the Armed Forces car sales at Wiesbaden, Germany. I still have it after shipping it to Hawaii and then Italy and now I am back in Germany with the van. I just saw this recall info. and appreciate it. There are sections of the autobahnn over here with no speed limit even today. I drive 80 to 90 MPH regularly on the German Autobahn and sometimes up around 100MPH but the governor on the car won't let it go higher. It is a 4.2 liter engine that has good power. Some of the German cars pass me like I am standing still even when I am at 90MPH and the thought of the torque converter going out isn't a pleasent thought. Thank you for the info about the recall. There is a Ford deal in my town and I will call Ford and set up a recall fix with the dealer. V/R Bob

My torque converter failed Aug. 2011 to which Ford said $3500 to repair and the local transmission specialist charged $1800 but now that the converter failed 2 more times and is currently in the shop for the same thing, there has to be something else going on. Ford won't fix it because they didn't fix it the first time.I feel bad everytime the mechanic has to fix the car and tow the car because I know no matter what he does my car will be back and because its warranteed by him he'll have to honor Fords mistake. If only the billion dollar company could be as honest as the local garage proprietor.

I own a 2004 Ford Freestar and the torque converter has already given out and had to be replaced at a cost of $1009. and I am still waiting for the rexcall for a refund. It is unfortunate that I was a good distance from town and had to wait for a tow and then wait for repair. I still am happy with my van, but wish refund was quicker.

I drive a 2004 Ford Freestar and the transmission just stopped working without warning. I think this is a safety hazard because if you are crossing a busy intersection and the transmission fails you have no driving power and you vehicle slows down and leaving in jeopardy.

4/2/2010 - Ms. McGhee
I drive a 2004 Ford Freestar and it has been displaying serious issues. Every time it rains, the vehicle stops. The vehicle seems to have a transmission problem (won't go forward or backwards but jumps either way on its own). After being examined by a transmission specialist, it is believed that there is a problem with the van's computer system.

Yes, I'd say it's unreliable and is a safety issue. I have been in highway traffic when the vehicle stopped on me.

Do you drive a 2004 FORD FREESTAR?

Just because a car has been recalled does not mean it is not a reliable car. Millions of cars get recalled every year. Recalls often involve problems that are rare but could cause a serious problem if they occur. So the risk to any given driver is often remote, even though there may be a few high-profile incidents traced to the problem.
