Description Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Mazda6 and 2014-2016 Mazda3 vehicles. Water could possibly enter the brake caliper causing the parking brake actuator shaft to corrode and possibly bind.
Consequences If the parking brake actuator shaft binds, the parking brake may not engage or disengage fully. If the parking brake does not engage properly, the vehicle may move unexpectedly if it is parked on a slope, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will check the parking brake actuator shafts, replacing any that are corroded, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed August 24, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 1217F.

I've got the top of the line Mazda 3 with all the bells and whistles. The screen is a problem and I've had it in three times for repair. The radio will stop working or worse, the GPS program stops. I then have to pull over, turn the car off and re-start for the electronics to re-boot. Last time it happened, I got a message that I didn't have the GPS option installed. The dealer has been great but now it rarely automatically connects to my phone and each time I start the car, I have to manually re-install my phone so it will connect. Very frustrating. Love the car but at almost $30K, wish I'd bought the less expensive model.

Do you drive a 2014 MAZDA MAZDA3?

Just because a car has been recalled does not mean it is not a reliable car. Millions of cars get recalled every year. Recalls often involve problems that are rare but could cause a serious problem if they occur. So the risk to any given driver is often remote, even though there may be a few high-profile incidents traced to the problem.
