Unreliable. advice I called 1800-NISSAN1 trying to resolve the situation and make them apply the extended warranty on the Electronic Steering Column Lock (ESCL) to my vehicle also. This is what I stated (more or less) to the guy at Nissan-USA customer affairs:

I have been happy with Nissan since 2000 when we got our Xterra at Town North Nissan, we kept it for 12 years with no problems. Later we had a 2006 Pathfinder and a 2014 Infiniti, no problems either. Also at town North we bought the Nissan Maxima 2010. It is not even paid for and the Steering Lock already failed. This seems to be a common problem and multiple reported cases have reached NHTSA from consumers left stranded like myself.

Do you drive a 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA?

Just because a car has been recalled does not mean it is not a reliable car. Millions of cars get recalled every year. Recalls often involve problems that are rare but could cause a serious problem if they occur. So the risk to any given driver is often remote, even though there may be a few high-profile incidents traced to the problem.
