I have never had a problem with my 2005 Xterra, received a recall notice for the ECM, took it in and then afterwards started having problems. Engine was dying at stop lights, and cutting out at high speeds, surging ahead when slowing down. Took it back in - crank sensor had to be replaced. I'm hoping all is well, but I've read other blogs that I hope I do not experience becuase I love my Xterra.

Recalls would be great IF Nissan would do them and honor the ones they do have. I have a 2005 Xterra, bought it at 33,000 miles and have had nothing but problems...I have the same fuel sending sensor problem as many on this board, and worse yet - my transmission is going at 86,000 mi - I have no reverse right now. When I had 53,000 mi on it (still under warranty), it started cutting out and wouldn't accelerate at all, took it to dealer to find out that the radiator failed - flooding my transmission with coolant and ruined my tranny. They REFUSED to honor the warranty stating that "the tranmission did not fail - the radiator did therefore the transmission was not covered". I let them replace the radiator and flush the tranny 3 times - cost me $1,400 out of pocket - now here I am 30,000 later with a blown transmission and no help. NISSAN NEEDS SUED. There should be a class action suit against them - just read these complaint boards!

I love my Nissan Xterra 2005. I just started getting the sensor issue 05/02/2010. I called Nissan and was informed that they had sent me an letter on the recall to my old address in New York, which I never received. I live in California and looked on ARFC's web site and found out about the recall. It allowed me to speak with Nissan's telephone representative with a to the point explanation of my cars fault and utilize their consumer memo as proof. My cars vehicle number was one in the series that had the problem. I am very pleased. Thank you for your sight.

Do you drive a 2005 NISSAN XTERRA?

Just because a car has been recalled does not mean it is not a reliable car. Millions of cars get recalled every year. Recalls often involve problems that are rare but could cause a serious problem if they occur. So the risk to any given driver is often remote, even though there may be a few high-profile incidents traced to the problem.
