Seatbelts don't bind when jerked, they just hang loose. I have a 1990 Legacy. The hatch has never opened since I bought it used. It does have 254,000 miles on it, and the front driver side drive shaft just went out on the wheel hub (bearing/seal/cam/?) I removed the tire to inspect the boot (cv?) and when I rotated the disc, the boot made a sound that I can only describe as a ratcheting sound like you would hear while reeling in a fishing reel. The rod jiggles loosely in the boot and makes a broken metal sound.
