TL CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SENSOR IN HER EGR WOULD CATCH FIRE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SMOKE AND SMELLED OF BURNT PLASTIC. SHE DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND FELT AS IF SHE WERE PUSHING ON AIR. THE CONTACT HEARD AIR BLOWING SO SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE SENSOR WAS COMPLETELY MELTED AND HE REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE RECURRED TWO DAYS LATER. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE SECOND FAILURE AND THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 221,000.
