Problem with Fuel System Gasoline
May 31, 2013 - Houston , TX - Gasoline, Delivery, Fuel Pump
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD BECOME BURNED AND WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH AN AFTER MARKET FUEL PUMP BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL PART WAS NO LONGER BEING MANUFACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,704.
Apr 21, 2012 - Lagrange, KY - Gasoline
MY 2007 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR ULTIMATE 4X4 ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING SUDDENLY LIKE IT RAN OUT OF GAS. THERE WAS A HALF A TANK OF GAS IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WOULD CRANK AND CRANK BUT WOULD NOT START. I TROUBLESHOOTED THE ISSUE TO A FAILED FUEL PUMP. WHEN I PULLED THE FUEL PUMP OUT OF THE FUEL TANK I NOTICED THAT THE WIRING GOING TO THE NEGATIVE SIDE OF THE PUMP WAS MELTED. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS THAT THE PUMP WAS SUBMERGED IN GASOLINE BUT IT GOT HOT ENOUGH TO MELT THE PLASTIC ON THE PUMP AND WIRING. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE.
