ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

1/19/2016 - OBRIEN, FL
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, AN EXHAUST ODOR EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE FRONT AND REAR AIR VENTS DURING ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE MUFFLER WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED TO ILLUMINATE WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE GEAR SHIFTER SEIZED. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND DROVE HOME. ONCE THE CONTACT ARRIVED AT HOME, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, THE ALARM AND HORN SOUNDED, AND THE TAILGATE OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,191.

MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY CAR LUCKILY WHILE I WAS PARKING AND NOT DRIVING. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO DEALERSHIP WHO STATED THEY FOUND THE FAULT ON THE COMPUTER BUT COULD NOT GET THE POWER STEERING TO GO OUT ON THEM SO IT IS A WAIT AND SEE. ALSO, MY NEIGHBOR HAS 2013 WITH 44,000K MILES AND IT JUST COST HER $1700 TO REPLACE POWER STEERING. SEEMS THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL.

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AS A STRONG FUEL ODOR EMITTED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE FRONT DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE WEATHER DOOR STRIPPING WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.

I AM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT MY OWN VEHICLE BUT OTHERS. IN THE LAST YEAR, IT SEEMS THAT 99% OF CARS I SEE WITH NO HEADLIGHTS ON ARE NEWER MODEL FORDS, ALL PRODUCTS. IT USED TO BE SOMETHING SEEN ONCE A WEEK OR SO BUT NOW I SEE THIS SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. I AM FILING A COMPLAINT NOW BECAUSE I JUST SAW A 2014 FORD EXPLORER POLICE CAR WITH NO HEADLIGHTS ON. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT IS SO PREVALENT THAT IT POINTS TO SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS AND CONSISTENT THAN DRIVER IGNORANCE AND MORE TO POOR DESIGN OF HEADLIGHT SWITCH OR HEADLIGHT PROGRAMMING ISSUES.

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER WITHOUT WARNING. AS THE CONTACT APPLIED FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO STEER THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED TO THE SIDE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. UPON INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE HAD FRACTURED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR BRUISES AND THE REAR PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR NECK BRUISES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTROL ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,500.
