2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU RECALL - #14V252000

RECALL FOR VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL : CRUISE CONTROL

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

Consequences Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.
Corrective action GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. I purchased my 2006 Chevy Malibu August 2007. Shortly after during the summer months the power steering would lock causing the car hard to turn. I drove at low speeds because I could never determine when exactly the steering wheel would lock up. I stayed on the side of the road even in ditches. Finally I took the car to a local Firestone for them to have a look at it and the mechanic immediately advise that I take it back to the dealership. I did not have the money they were charging (1500.00) and finally Chevrolet said they would fix the power steering problem. Engine lights started coming on shortly after that. The car just started falling apart piece by piece. Break lights come on when I'm not on the breaks and when I hit the breaks, the lights go off. Cruse control only worked for the first year of having the car and also the gas light does not work. Mechanics say it has something to do with the wiring and refuse to touch it, take it back to the dealership they say. I h

2006 CHEVY MALIBU BOUGHT WITH LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. FIRST THE POWERSTEERING WENT OUT WITH KNOW WARNING,THEN THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON EMISSION PROBLEMS. THE NEWEST CAR I HAVE BOUGHT AND I'VE SPENT MORE MONEY THAN ANY TRAP CAR I HAVE EVER HAD. KNOW MORE GM FOR ME.

I purchased my 2006 Chevy Malibu 1/26/2007. Before my 1 year anniversary date the transmission failed and had to be replaced. I still have problems engaging shifting problems. I keep regular oil change and fluids. Now, besides the shift sticking the car stalled while reversing felt like I had anboot on. It would not move forward or backwards. I am not feeling safe with this car. Single mom, not kid safe car.

Do you drive a 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU?

Just because a car has been recalled does not mean it is not a reliable car. Millions of cars get recalled every year. Recalls often involve problems that are rare but could cause a serious problem if they occur. So the risk to any given driver is often remote, even though there may be a few high-profile incidents traced to the problem.
