There was no previous warning. The passenger side airbag smashed the windsheild, and unseated the dashboard, sending the center ac vent pieces into the back seat. Ford will not pay for a loner, and no certified parts are available for the auto. The body and engine were in good working order. Now it can't be driven and is at local Ford dealer.

Do you drive a 1997 FORD ESCORT?

Just because a car has been recalled does not mean it is not a reliable car. Millions of cars get recalled every year. Recalls often involve problems that are rare but could cause a serious problem if they occur. So the risk to any given driver is often remote, even though there may be a few high-profile incidents traced to the problem.
