ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS, THE PITMAN ARM TO STEERING GEAR RETAINING NUT WAS NOT FULLY TIGHTENED TO THE REQUIRED SPECIFICATION. |
| Consequences |
IF THE PITMAN ARM TO GEARBOX ATTACHMENT NUT LOOSENS, A NOISE AND A LOOSE FEEL IN THE STEERING COULD OCCUR. IF THE CONDITION PROGRESSED AND SERVICE WAS NOT SOUGHT, THE NUT COULD BACK OFF COMPLETELY AND THE PITMAN ARM COULD SEPARATE FROM THE GEAR CAUSING A LOSS OF STEERING. IF THE WARNING IS NOT HEEDED AND STEERING IS LOST, A CRASH MAY RESULT. |

DEALERS WILL TIGHTEN THE PITMAN ARM RETAINING NUT TO SPECIFICATIONS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON OCTOBER 1, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-866-436-7332. |

I have a 2005 F-150 5.4l Lariat 4x4, besides the gas tank leak the steering wheel pulls back like it wants to come off, like the whole steering column moves in and out if I pull back on the steering wheel, this page says 2003 but my truck has been doing this too!

I bought my truck a f-150 with the la west package on it from border ford. and the transmission tail shaft was replaced around 5000 miles, said it had a crack inside the housing. other than that it's been a good truck. but on the hood the paint is comming off due to rust under the paint in 4 spots. i think LA WEST painted this hood. because it came with the package. my truck is garage keep and this really sucks. but other than that i've had know other problems. when i got the truck i had border ford put eletric start on it and a bed cover from the start. one of the prettest trucks around and the only one i've seen with the LA WEST package on it like mine. I was told this was the first and last one like this. because LA west and ford could not get together one a price for others. so i was told buy the owner mr Richard shaffer. it's black and it's the f-150 ext cab ,step side, spoiler hood and all leather seats. one mean nice looking truck, exsept for the darn hood no
