Complaints

The car seat did not receive any damages. However, the car airbags went off. The vehicle is damaged and a police report was made. The car seat was not inspected. I called directly to the car seat company and they recommended to reach out to NHTSA for further inspection of the car seat.

We had to move our booster seat to the passenger side of the rear row in our Honda Odyssey because this is the side kids load and unload for school. However, when doing this the seatbelt buckle is now in the position for the lower anchor release button. Anytime our child uses the seatbelt, it depresses the anchor button and loosens the anchor. This causes the seat to no longer be secured and thus a safety issue.

The harness does not tighten sufficiently to protect a small infant in the event of a crash. The child is 4 pounds, 9 ounces and 18 inches long, well within the stated minimum limits stated by the manufacturer. The seat is in new condition, has all original inserts and has never been used for any other child. When buckling the harness and pulling the strap to tighten, the harness does not tighten enough to pass the pinch test. When pinching at the shoulder, there is approximately 1.5 inches of slack. The harness is adjusted as tight as possible with the splitter plate pulled all the way to the cam lock. After monitoring the infant in the seat for a few moments, they shifted and slouched down into an unsafe position in the seat, compromising a safe airway and positioning for a newborn. This seat is not safe for smaller infants.

I am a CPST. I use the Joie Mint Latch with my own child. On multiple occasions I have found on multiple occasions that when securing the lower rigid latch it will flip to green (secure) when it is not actually latched. It is during install when "jiggling" it into position. I am concerned parents who arent as well educated on car seats may not double check the latch before traveling and their child may not be safe.

The bubble indicator on the base is blown, making it difficult to determine if the base is reclined into the correct position.

False car seat latch. The mint latch is a baseless car seat that latches to the seat and turns green when successfully latched. The car seat was showing green as if it was latched to the seat and it was loose. Glad I checked before driving off. This could be very dangerous if in an accident. Right side was completely loose and not secured.

When trying to unlatch the car seat from the car anchors, the car seat was jammed and would not unlatch. We tried absolutely everything and contacted Joie. They agreed that is was a malfunction and would send us a new shell for the car seat. We were to remove all the padding and send back the shell ourselves with a prepaid label. They refused to send a new car seat shell until they received and verified the car seat. They also refused to overnight the new car seat which left us without a car seat for our newborn for over a week. When we received the new shell, it was completely damaged and unusable. I do have a video of the issue, if that is something you’re interested in.

Unable to secure infant in seat to achieve proper tightness using "pinch" test. Baby weighs >4 pounds. Has happened with 2 babies in my practice as a CPST and RN where unable to achieve tightness. Low birth weight pillow and infant insert in place in both occurrences.

The car seat currently has two anchors. When removing the car seat, one of the two anchors will release but the other will remain locked. This has occurred while trying to place the car seat and remove it. With one anchor locked and the other unlocked, this prevents the owner from placing or removing the car seat from their vehicle. Leaving the owner and their child stranded if they are unable to place the car seat while out. I still have the car seat and have been in contact with Joie. They stated that this is a known issue and offered a replacement under warranty. I believe this as an issue to any owner of this car seat.

The car seat fabric began lifting up from the shell of the seat. I reached out and was provided a replacement as its supposed to fold under and due to the heat the replacement cover was doing the same thing where the entire fabric was beginning to separate from the shell. I also had the stroller MELTING in the car as well. I don't think the plastic that holds the fabric down was tested in high heat as it warps and melts. I reached out to them to let them know I disposed of the seat and stroller due to these issues ( I am aware the plastic bends under the seat but with it coming off daily and around the seat it did not seem safe even with the replacement doing the same thing).
