NUNA Complaints

I own two Nuna RAVA car seats, and both have developed unraveling/tearing of the two-point harness buckle/strap between the child’s legs. One seat had noticeable tearing, which prompted me to closely inspect the second seat, where I found the same area beginning to unravel. I contacted Nuna and was initially advised to use glue or tape on the damaged area. After expressing my safety concerns about that, Nuna acknowledged that the damage is a safety hazard and instructed me to discontinue use of both seats. However, they refused to repair or replace the seats and instead offered a 10% discount toward purchasing a new seat. I am concerned that the same safety-critical component is failing on two separate car seats and that Nuna is acknowledging the hazard while requiring me to pay hundreds of dollars to replace the seats. Both seats are still within the expected usable life of the product. I believe this warrants investigation as a potential safety defect.

Shell foam is folding inward, like melting inward. This was found on 4 Nuna Rava Next LoveShackFancy editions.

The Nuna RAVA Next convertible car seat has developed significant deterioration and separation of the internal foam/energy-absorbing material along the side of the seat. The foam appears to be pulling away from the surrounding structure and has areas that look compressed, deformed, or broken down. This appears to be occurring during normal use and is not the result of a vehicle crash. The damage is concerning because the affected material is part of the car seat’s protective structure. I am concerned that the deterioration could compromise the seat’s ability to provide proper protection in a crash.

I have contacted [XXX] for my concerns. I sent pictures and videos. the metal harness that is usually located behind the car seats is stuck under the seat and I can't unloosen my daughters straps now thats she's grown some. its concerning because she can't even use her car seat at this moment. The harness release mechanism/seat belt buckle is unlatching without the release button being pressed. Because the locking mechanism is failing to stay securely latched under tension, the seat is currently unsafe to use. I sent a video of the failed mechanism and requested manufacturer inspection and a fix, but it was declined.

Harness does not stay tight when secured. Debris collected in latch release button preventing it from staying tight.

The harness adjustment button on my Nuna RAVA car seat has failed, preventing the harness from being properly tightened. This makes it impossible to securely restrain my child. This issue involves the same harness adjustment mechanism that Nuna previously addressed in a voluntary recall, where debris could cause the adjuster to malfunction and result in a loose harness. The seat has not been misused and is within its expected usable lifespan. Despite this, Nuna has refused to repair or replace the seat, stating it is out of warranty. This is a safety-critical failure that directly impacts child passenger safety, as the harness cannot be properly secured in the event of a crash.

When the cover was removed for cleaning, a clean break was discovered straight down the full headrest styrofoam where it extends out to the sides from the flat back where the child places its head. The car seat has been in no accidents and there is no way to know how long the foam had been like that since the cover had been covering it. The company claimed that the entire car seat needs to be replaced. Thus, the safety of the child may have been compromised when in the car seat before the issue was discovered. There are still years left before it expires and nothing has occurred to the car seat other than standard use. There was a photo of an identical break on Reddit and so this may be a common problem with this car seat model.

There is no sticker on the base or seat with the manufacture date and expiration date.

The harness straps on the seat have begun to loosen while my child is riding in the seat. You do not need to use the harness adjuster button to loosen the straps. This is allowing a secure fit to become dangerously loose while the vehicle is in motion. I removed the car seat from the vehicle and was able to replicate the issue. A slight tug or movement makes the straps become loose and I can pull them completely out of the shell without using the harness adjuster. This is the same issue that started the Rava recall recently. The harness adjuster is clear of any debris and fully covered by fabric in this seat. There is no valid explanation to this other than a manufacturer defect. The seat is a few years old and has been used daily since receipt in Spring of 2023. It was purchased from the manufacturers website. One minor crash and the seat was not replaced because of the manufacturers stance on replacement (crash was May of 2024). This has been reported to the manufacturer as of 4/29/26.
