RECALL FOR EQUIPMENT : RECREATIONAL VEHICLE/TRAILER

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: RECREATIONAL VEHICLES USING GAS/ELECTRIC ABSORPTION REFRIGERATORS SUPPLIED BY NORCOLD. THE SWIVEL NUT WHICH IS AN INTEGRAL CONNECTION COMPONENT OF A PRESSURE TAP DEVICE HAS "STRESS CORROSION CRACKING."

Description VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: RECREATIONAL VEHICLES USING GAS/ELECTRIC ABSORPTION REFRIGERATORS SUPPLIED BY NORCOLD. THE SWIVEL NUT WHICH IS AN INTEGRAL CONNECTION COMPONENT OF A PRESSURE TAP DEVICE HAS "STRESS CORROSION CRACKING."
Consequences THIS CRACKING CAN LEAD TO AN OPEN FRACTURE IN THE BRASS NUT, POTENTIALLY ALLOWING PROPANE GAS TO LEAK.
Corrective action NORCOLD IS CONDUCTING THE NOTIFICATION AND REMEDY FOR THIS RECALL. DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE SWIVEL NUT/PRESSURE TAP COMPONENT AND REPLACE WITH A REMEDY KIT.
Notes OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING NOVEMBER 1999.OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT NORCOLD AT 1-937-497-3080 OR FLEETWOOD FOLDING TRAILERS AT 1-814-445-9661.ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
