SAFETY 1ST Complaints

Walked out to my car after my childs appointment opened the rear passenger door and noticed that the foam had detached from the plastic shell causing it and the cover to fall forward, It was caused by the glue failing. This foam is supposed to protect my childs skull and neck from impact so if we had been in a wreak it being displaced could have caused injury or even death. I emailed photos of the carseat to the manufacturer, but it has not been inspected in person. I still have the carseat, and I am willing to have it inspected ( I did have to cut the buckle strap for Dorel to send a replacement seat)

The carrying handle snapped from one side. It is available for inspection. The child was not at risk because they were not in the car seat at the time. It has not been inspected by anyone. It was returned to our office.

The contact owns a Safety 1st Car Seat, Model Type: Convertible, Model Number: CC450ULC, Manufactured Date: February 17th, 2026. The contact stated that after placing an infant in the car seat and tightening the harness straps, the harness straps had independently loosened by the time the contact had arrived to the intended destination. The contact initially used the child restraint in the rear-facing position and later changed it to the forward-facing position; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the harness straps loosened each time the child restraint was used. The car seat was not replaced.

The harness was missing stitching on one side. They're supposed to be two levels to connect the harness for a smaller child. One side had two levels. The other side it only had one. Safety first is sending me a brand new harness.

The metal cables on the car seat that attach it to base, one of them is fraying. I noticed this today when I brought the car seat inside to remove the car seat cover to wash.

While placing my almost [XXX] son into his Safety 1st rear-facing car seat, the harness strap broke while I was tightening the harness during normal use. The seat has never been involved in a crash, has never been modified, and has been used according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The harness failed before we began driving, preventing us from using the seat safely. The seat was immediately removed from service and returned to the retailer. I am reporting this because a harness strap should not fail during routine tightening, and I believe this represents a potential safety defect that warrants investigation. While using the tightening strap to tighten the harness, I felt a pop and then the tightening strap was looser. Upon further investigation the small plastic piece that the tightening strap was threaded through snapped. The harness seemingly stayed tightened but we did not risk it. We have uninstalled the car seat and stopped using it. I have contacted the manufacturer but have not heard back.

The headrest button is stuck and unable to lock into position. We cannot get the button unstuck & car seat is now unsafe. I had to purchase and entirely new car seat (see receipt).

The contact owns a Safety 1st Car Seat, Model Type: Grow & Go, Model Number: CC413-GYU, Manufactured Date: 01/29/2025. The contact stated that the car seat was installed in a 2007 Pontiac G6. The contact stated that the headrest pad had detached, and the foam in the car seat head rest was exposed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The car seat was not replaced.

Metal tether connecting the seat to the roaring platform on the base has broke. Allowing the seat to come completely off the base.
