FIRESTONE DESTINATION LE TIRES Complaints

The contact stated that while driving on [XXX], the red light illuminated and there was an abnormal rumbling sound. The contact pulled over at the exit and became aware that the outside circumference of the tire was shredded on the driver’s side rear tire. The tread was in good working order. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where all four tires were replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact about rebates on the tires. Properly inflated at all times "Firestone Destination LE2 225/65R17" tire ruptured suddenly! There is a 1" radial slit in the sidewall near the beginning of the tread line.

The contact owns a 2021 Mazda CX-5 equipped with Firestone Tires, Tire Line: Destination LE3, Tire Size: 225/55/R19, DOT Numbers: 17XEFLE320725 and 17XEFLE321524. While the vehicle was parked, the contact was informed by a co-worker that there was a bubble on the rear passenger's side tire. The contact inspected the tire and noticed that there was a bubble that was two inches deep and 3 inches long on the side wall of the tire with DOT Number: 17XEFLE321524. The vehicle was taken to Tire Plus, where the tire was replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, there was an abnormal popping sound heard, and the TPMS warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact noticed that there was a 2-inch long crack in the tread of the rear driver's side tire, the tire with DOT Number: 17XEFLE320725. The tire was replaced with the spare tire. The vehicle was then taken to Tire Plus, where the contact was awaiting the tire replacement. The tires were replacement tires. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The tire failure mileage was approximately 15,000. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 64,000. The VIN was not available.

Incident Description (Firestone Destination LE3 – P235/65R17) I purchased four new Firestone Destination LE3 tires (size P235/65R17, DOT IW2 8ILE31) and within the first week three of them developed noticeable bulges in the sidewalls. I returned to the tire service center, and they replaced the three tires due to the bulging. The following week, new bulges appeared again in the sidewalls on multiple replacement tires, for a total of six affected tires. Sidewall bulging creates a risk of sudden tire failure and loss of vehicle control, and I do not feel the tires are safe to drive on. One service center stated this was “normal from driving on roads,” but I disagree due to the number of tires affected in such a short time. The condition has been repeated and confirmed by multiple service centers. The tires remain available for inspection upon request. There were no warning lamps or messages before the bulges appeared. The issue began immediately after installation of the first set, and the problem persisted with the replacement set. In my assessment, the repeated sidewall bulging indicates a potential structural or manufacturing defect.

Thread came off the rim of tire, the car only has 36,000 miles on it. Tire Size P 225/65R17

The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle experienced abnormal shaking and vibration. The vehicle was taken to the local service center who discovered that all four tires were out of round and had experienced tread separation. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 36,000.

The contact stated that after the vehicle was taken to the tire dealer for tire rotation, the wheel sensor warning light illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle vibrated and made an abnormal sound while driving. The contact pulled over to inspect the tires and discovered that the front driver's side tire had been plugged with an unknown object. The vehicle was taken back to the tire dealer, where air was added to the tires. The front driver's side tire was not replaced. The tire manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The tire failure mileage was 30,000. The vehicle failure mileage was 54,000. The VIN was unavailable. Firestone Destination Le2 P245/75R16 On February 20, 2021 just 15 days after I purchased my brand new truck the rear passenger side tire dramatically exploded while I was driving in to my neighborhood. I was traveling at approximately 35 mph when out of nowhere a sound similar to a shotgun interrupted my driving and immediately forced me off the road in between two trees. I was narrowly missed by oncoming traffic and scared for my life. My side step of my brand new car was damaged as well as the rim and driver side wheel well where my car brushed the tree. I called Toyota and they said I didn't have tire coverage so I called my insurance company next. USAA sent a tow truck to pick up the vehicle and they brought it to Tire Choice. The associate said the tires were known for exploding and indicated that I needed to at least replace the damaged one and the driver side front for my own safety. The associate also said he didn't think these specific tires were even in circulation anymore. I went to Toyota and they said this was a manufacturers issue. No one was able to help me and I was forced to replace two brand new tires out of pocket. I was lucky I was in the neighborhood and not the interstate. There was absolutely no sign this was going to happen nor did I hit anything in the short time I had the car before the accident.

Firestone Destination LE 2. 225/65R17. Tire has exploded on highway. This is a brand new car purchased 3 weeks ago and has 1584 mile on it. Tire run only about 1575 mile. When inflated the tire again, it had multiple bubbles, ball shaped swellings.
