COOPER CS5 ULTRA TOURING TIRES Complaints

Purchased set of 4 Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring 195/65R1591H tires on 26 Jun 2026 @ 48,847 miles on the odometer. Three of the tires had the same serial number of U9AE1CR2622, with the 4th of U9AE1CR4822. Brought car in for service on 20 Oct 2025 @ 65,340 due to a slow leak on the rear passenger and was informed the rear passenger and front driver tires had tread separation and needed replacing. The tires both had a serial number of U9AE1CR2622. Tires were replaced. 15 Aug 2026, the front driver tire (the remaining tire with the U9AE1CR2622 serial number; it had been rotated to that position during the 20 Oct 2025 service) the tire pressure indicator light came on and discovered a slight (~7 psi) drop and aired up to correct pressure. However the tread appears rounded as apposed to flat across like the other tires and have confirmed the tread has separated. The car is driven moderately on paved roads and does not sit for extended periods of times. The tread depth is still quite deep. I expected much more out of these tires and do not plan on buying Cooper again. I believe the Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring 195/65R1591H tires (and perhaps more specifically, the U9AE1CR2622 batch) is defective and dangerous.

225/55R 95H On the highway in center lane going 70mph. Car was starting to shake and then heard loud noise coming from the back. Next thing the tire blew. Tread ripped off the bumper, side rear panel, taillight and trim under the door. We were lucky to be able to pull over to the shoulder. We had to get a flat bed tow back home. Took the tire to the Goodyear place where we had purchased the tires. There was 12000 mile on the tires. We purchased a new tire. Driving home there was the same shake. Went back to the tire place and they put the passenger rear tire on the front passenger side to see if it was truly the tire. Yes it was, so we purchased 3 new Goodyear tires, the same ones that was replaced from flat. The Goodyer guy told us to send the tire to Goodyear, because it felt it was defected. Maybe they would pay the over $5000.00 to repair our car. He told me that they have had a lot of problems with that tire. Goodyear sent a certified letter to us stating " Tire condition occured as a result of substantial impact causing overdeflection of the tire and fracture of sidewall rubber and/or fabric plies and/or liner material". They will not pay. If we had hit something substantial we would not be here today. There were not warning light or messages prior to the blowout.

I purchased a set of 4 Cooper Ultra Touring (235/45R18) Tires in 05/2022. Within 40,000 miles of purchasing the Tires, I was traveling on I-10 WB at approximately 70 MPH when the Vehicle started to shake violently. I pulled into the Right Lane and slowed down significantly and was able to make it to my residence safely. The very next day, I took the Vehicle to a local Goodyear Franchise and had a new Passenger Front Tire installed on 10/24/2022. The Service Tech advised that the Passenger Front Tire was on the verge of separating and that was the reason for the Vehicle Shaking. On 08/28/23, I was traveling on I-10 EB and the Driver's side of the Vehicle started to shake violently again. I traveled in the Right Lane at a slow speed until I came up on a Toyota Dealership in Daphne, Alabama. The Service Tech put the Vehicle up on a lift and advised me that the Driver's Side Rear Tire had separated and the Driver's side front tire had an uneven wear pattern on the inside edge. I had both tires promptly replaced. I have done my due diligence and have discovered many recalls on Cooper Tires as of late. The same descriptions I have read online are exactly what I have experienced with my two tires that have separated. I did check to see if these Tires were apart of any recalls and they are not. One thing I would like to point out is that these Cooper Tires were apart of a Promotion that Tire Choice Auto Service Centers were running in the Summer of 2020 to buy 3 tires and receive 1 free. For this reason, I do not know how many of these Tires were sold as it felt like they were just trying to get rid of them as they were heavily discounted. I do suspect that these tires were made in the same factories as many that were recalled. These Tires do have a 70,000 mile Warranty and I am currently in the process of trying to get the Tires from Toyota so Cooper can inspect them for a refund. Reference #: [XXX]. The contact owns a 2016 Toyota Avalon equipped with Cooper Tires, Tire Line: CS5 Ultra Touring, Tire Size: 215/55/R17, DOT Number: U93R1CU1820. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the front end of the vehicle was shaking abnormally without warning. The contact took the vehicle to a tire shop and was informed that the tread on the driver’s and passenger’s side tires were separating. The contact's husband drove the vehicle to the original tire shop where the tires were purchased and was offered a store credit for the replacement tires. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The tire was a replacement tire. The tire failure mileage was approximately 6,000, and the vehicle failure mileage was 84,575.

Malfunction of a cooper CS5 Ultra Touring tire 245/4519. I noticed that the PSI of front drivers tire was low. Put air in tire, one week later the PSI was low again. I was vacationing in the mountains, so I started down the mountain to go to the nears gas station for air. I had driving apex. 2 miles when I heard the sound of a flat tire. I had to pull over on the side of this narrow road and wait for road side assistance. This was very hazardous since my car was in a blind spot to on coming traffic. When I did make it to a tire center, I was told the tire was not repairable because the belt had separated from the tire. Now this morning I have a second tire that needs air. I will get this tire checked immediately. This tires have low mileage on them and the belt should not be separating. Cooper dids to recall this tires. Incident 10/28/2022
