My car is experiencing a failure of the shutter grill motor. It’s a motor that opens and closes the shutters to let air through a cooling radiator. The car is not getting hot. The shutters are fully open. I assume this is an energy efficiency mechanism. However: Since the motor is not working, and the shutters cannot adjust properly, the car is derating my power. THIS IS DANGEROUS. I cannot climb mountains on the interstate at proper speeds. I have also almost had a few wrecks trying to pull into traffic due to loss of power, thus acceleration. The computer is choosing to derate my power and acceleration, but it isn’t necessary. I would like to fix the issue, but it is expensive and I don’t have the money. Why would Honda punish me with dangerous conditions for my inability to pay for a fix on an energy efficiency issue!?!?

  • 2025 HONDA RIDGELINE
    - Caguas , PR

I am reporting an urgent potential safety defect involving my 2025 Honda Ridgeline Sport, in Puerto Rico. Since the first oil/filter service, the vehicle has repeatedly developed a grinding/growling/knocking-type noise and physical sensation through the steering wheel and cabin, especially on rough, porous or uneven pavement and during minor road irregularities or braking/load changes. The condition has been reported to Honda-authorized service multiple times (about four visits over nearly a year), but the cause was initially not identified. On 08/20/2026 Flagship Honda advisor informed me it was rack and pinion broken. On 08/24/2026, Flagship Honda (Kennedy Ave., San Juan, PR 00920), RO #XXXXXX, at 12,556 miles, documented a steering-system inspection and found a “golpe” (knock) in the steering column. The written diagnosis states the steering column had internal wear in the motor and “cruje al moverse” (creaks/cracks when moving), requiring replacement. Honda authorized the repair. On 09/01/2026, under warranty, Honda replaced the steering column assembly (Part #XXXXXX) under RO #XXXXXX, at 12,870 miles. The dealer documented replacement, alignment, and a 2-mile road test, stating the condition was corrected. However, the exact same grinding/growling noise and physical sensation remain after replacement. I reported this again to the dealer on 09/07/2026 and was told another appointment with a Honda inspector is required for further diagnosis. I am very concerned because this recurring steering-related condition remains unresolved in a nearly new vehicle, and the true root cause is unknown. I am concerned about possible loss of steering control or another safety consequence, especially with my family in the vehicle. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this complaint and determine whether this may represent a safety-related defect affecting other 2025 Ridgelines. I have repair orders and warranty documentation supporting these facts.

  • 2016 HONDA PILOT
    - Kitty Hawk, NC

The 6-speed automatic transmission on my 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L (103,200 miles) has experienced a severe mechanical failure casing dangerously hard, violent gear shifts during both acceleration and deceleration. Critically, no dashboard warning lights or malfunction indicator lamps illuminated while this dangerous driving condition persisted, leaving me with no advance warning of a safety hazard. A subsequent diagnostic scan at an Authorized Honda dealership revealed hidden diagnostic trouble code P0776 (pressure control solenoid "B" performance or stuck off) and a failing torque converted. The severe, unpredictable jerking and hesitation during shifting creates an immediate traffic hazard during acceleration in traffic. Approximately 45 days prior, an out-of-town Honda dealership performed a prescribed triple fluid flush when the issue first arose. Then, 5 days later, my local Honda dealership performed the prescribed software update for shifting issues, which failed to remedy the underlying defect again. The dealership has now quoted $11,000 + for a full replacement of the transmission and torque converted. American Honda corporate has opened Case Number: 16606142 to track this defect.

Adaptive Cruise Control Automatic Emergency Braking Forward Collision Warning Lane Departure Warning Lane Keeping Assistance Auto -high beams Every time I start up my car all the above error messages come up stating there is a problem. My cruise control is not able to be used at all. This appears to be a very common issue amongst Honda Sensing from the research I have done. Honda was even taken to court over this issue.

Tail gate problems Looks like there are a lot of tailgate problems with the Honda Odyssey, including water leaks that can affect the control module. I replaced the control module, but it looks like there’s a lot of information and research about this issue online.

  • 2019 HONDA RIDGELINE
    - CASTLE ROCK, CO

On [XXX], at [XXX] am MDT, the closed sunroof on our 2019 Honda Ridgeline RTL exploded, without warning, while we were driving northbound on [XXX] north of [XXX]. At the time of the sunroof exploding, there were no cars close to us, in front or behind, and no overpass overhead. The glass projectiles of the sunroof, at high velocity, entered the cabin, struck and cut the back of my wife's left hand. My wife and I were covered in shards of glass. I could see a cloud of glass shards fall to the surface of the freeway in my rearview mirror at the time of the explosion. The vehicle is currently being serviced and estimated for damages at Ralph Schomp Honda in Highlands Ranch, CO. • 2024 HONDA RIDGELINE
    - Garden Grove, CA

I am reporting a recurring Auto Idle Stop no-restart and starting-system failure in a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. At approximately 35,072 miles, while stopped at a traffic light with Auto Idle Stop engaged, the engine shut off but failed to restart when the brake pedal was released. The vehicle remained disabled in the intersection until it was manually restarted, creating a risk of a collision. An authorized Honda dealer found both positive and negative battery terminals loose, tightened them, reported that the battery passed a load test, found no diagnostic trouble codes, and returned the vehicle. The battery had already been replaced at approximately 30,238 miles after a slow-start complaint and a failed battery test. The condition recurred at approximately 42,563 miles. After the engine shut off at a light, the vehicle displayed an orange “P” and “System Problem Detected - Shift to Park,” went into Neutral, and required a manual restart before Drive could be restored. The dealer later reported that the replacement battery tested at approximately 197 CCA against its 650 CCA rating, but no root cause for the rapid deterioration or the shutdown/no-restart condition has been identified. The vehicle now intermittently cranks slowly and appears strained while starting. No permanent repair has been completed. The vehicle is available for inspection. The condition creates a safety risk because the vehicle can fail to restart or move from an intersection and may enter Neutral unexpectedly.

Auto bright headlight feature malfunctions constant when on almost to thr effect of a strobe light. Street lights, reflective street markings, reflective road signs, all make it disbale. When it actually does need to disable when another car is approaching it doesn't cut off early enough blinding on coming traffic. The system doesn't work period and is very distracting, and very dangerous.

  • 2017 HONDA CR-V
    - Derby, CT

I own a 2017 Honda CR-V Touring AWD, VIN [XXX]. While driving, the steering intermittently feels sticky, notchy, and jerky, like extra friction or sandpaper in the wheel. It is most noticeable at highway speeds during small lane corrections: the wheel momentarily catches or resists, then suddenly releases. This can cause overcorrection and makes it harder to keep a smooth, straight path. The problem does not happen every drive and there is usually no warning light. This matches the well-known “sticky/notchy steering” condition reported on many Honda CR-Vs with electric power steering (EPS) gearboxes. Honda issued safety recall 24V-744 and related service actions covering many 2022–2025 CR-Vs and similar models for a manufacturing defect in the EPS gearbox (worm gear/worm wheel friction and lubrication). A much smaller 2017–2018 recall (18V-663 / Honda 18-103) covered only a tiny number of vehicles for a different EPS gearbox torque-sensor magnet issue; my VIN is not included. My 2017 has the same intermittent sticky/jerky feel that later model years had addressed under recall or TSB, but Honda has not provided coverage for this vehicle. I am concerned this is a safety defect that can worsen and increase crash risk if the steering binds or releases unexpectedly.
