2017 HONDA CR-V Complaints

I own a 2017 Honda CR-V Touring AWD, VIN [XXX]. While driving, the steering intermittently feels sticky, notchy, and jerky, like extra friction or sandpaper in the wheel. It is most noticeable at highway speeds during small lane corrections: the wheel momentarily catches or resists, then suddenly releases. This can cause overcorrection and makes it harder to keep a smooth, straight path. The problem does not happen every drive and there is usually no warning light. This matches the well-known “sticky/notchy steering” condition reported on many Honda CR-Vs with electric power steering (EPS) gearboxes. Honda issued safety recall 24V-744 and related service actions covering many 2022–2025 CR-Vs and similar models for a manufacturing defect in the EPS gearbox (worm gear/worm wheel friction and lubrication). A much smaller 2017–2018 recall (18V-663 / Honda 18-103) covered only a tiny number of vehicles for a different EPS gearbox torque-sensor magnet issue; my VIN is not included. My 2017 has the same intermittent sticky/jerky feel that later model years had addressed under recall or TSB, but Honda has not provided coverage for this vehicle. I am concerned this is a safety defect that can worsen and increase crash risk if the steering binds or releases unexpectedly. All of the lights on the dash board go off. I’ve taken the vehicle to the mechanic and they say that there is nothing wrong. Honda just released recall notice for the Honday CR-C 2017 to update the computer, but my vehicle is not included in the recall. I have been dealing with this issue and the dealerships have said that they have rectified the issue but the problem returns. I think they just disconnect and reconnect the battery which resets but does not fix this problem. I’m shocked that my vehicle is not part of the computer update recall.

The manufacturer, American Honda, issued a 10-year extended warranty (TSB 19-091) for defective, leaking A/C condensers on the 2017 Honda CR-V. Authorized Honda dealerships (specifically Napleton Honda and Victory Honda) are systematically misdiagnosing consumer vehicles to evade this warranty. Dealership service departments are blaming vehicle system failures on peripheral components (such as "return lines" and "discharge lines") to charge consumers thousands of dollars out of pocket. In my case, I was charged $868.44 and $1,184.49 for these lines, yet independent UV dye testing proved the factory condenser was actively leaking fluid the entire time. The vehicle’s passenger cabin cannot be cooled, causing severe heat discomfort. American Honda corporate case managers are actively protecting these dealer practices by offering minor "goodwill checks" instead of requiring dealers to perform the safety and equipment remedies mandated by the corporate warranty extension. Honda must be investigated for warranty non-compliance and consumer deception regarding this known HVAC system defect.

The safety driver assist options work periodically ... all the dash lights are on when breaking system is not working properly. While driving with cruise control on the brake system/driver assist options will fail and car will automatically start slowing down. Not very safe!! The front camera seems to be causing the issue.

Car automatically applies brakes for no reason. Happens at least once a month. Beside the startle factor, I am going to cause an accident by someone rear ending me because brakes are being applied for no reason.

No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was driven to a nearby parking lot. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a head gasket failure. The contact was informed that the head gasket needed to be removed and replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The contact stated that the failure was a known failure. The contact stated that the failure had occurred immediately after the vehicle was at the dealer and serviced for a scheduled oil change. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,090.

The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel momentarily became difficult to turn, and the steering wheel was sticking. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where a diagnostic test determined that the electronic power steering unit was inoperable and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and requested goodwill assistance to repair the vehicle. The contact was provided a case number. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000 (STEERING). The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I have a sticky steering wheel while driving a freeway speeds. I have notice that others have reported this same problem. 150000 miles

vehicle may experience driveability issues, which may result in DTCs P0300 (random misfire detected), P0301 (No. 1 cylinder misfire detected), P0302 (No. 2 cylinder misfire detected), P0303 (No. 3 cylinder misfire detected), P0304 (No. 4 cylinder misfire detected), or P0172 (fuel system too rich) or a whirling noise coming from the engine compartment. POSSIBLE CAUSE Based on certain driving patterns and environmental factors, the DTC's stated above may be set or a whirling noise may occur. Apparently only certain vin numbers were affected, mine is not in the list but im still having the exact same issues.

My air bag light has come on. The vehicle has never been in an accident. There is no damage to the air bag. The shop stated it’s the passenger side curtain airbag The other issue is the a/c. There was a recall it got fixed but my a/c is still not working.
