1977 AMERICAN MOTORS GREMLIN RECALL - #77V069000

RECALL FOR VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES, THE ACCELERATOR CABLE MAY HAVE AN OVERLY LONG PLASTIC SLEEVE AT ITS CARBURETOR END. THIS COULD ALLOW THE SLEEVE TO BECOME STUCK IN THE END-FITTING WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS PRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THIS WOULD CAUSE THE THROTTLE TO STICK IN THE OPEN POSITION.

Recalls often involve problems that are rare but could cause a serious problem if they occur. So the risk to any given driver is often remote, even though there may be a few high-profile incidents traced to the problem.
