Description This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 2, 2014 that they are recalling 554,328 model year 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured August 16, 2001, to April 28, 2014, and 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured March 20, 2003, to August 11, 2006. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
Consequences If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Corrective action GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14172.

I love my 2005 CTS, I do need to take it in for the recall but its such a great car to drive. I owned two BMW's prior to my CTS and spent tons of $$ on basic repairs. The bimmer's were fun but costly. The CTS is a powerful but smooth ride. I have not had a problem with my CTS but I also just bought it last year. So maybe the prior owner had to deal with all of the problems it had. Hopefully I'm getting the better years of my CTS's life.

I have never been so dissapointed with a vechical as I am with my CTS. Cadillac use to stand for Quality but have become a car that is pleasent to look at but costly to drive and very unreliable. GM should have been let go instead of bailing them out. At least toyota have stepped up to the plate and started fixing what cars they have screwed up. I have two Fords that keep going and going. "Thank you Ford" and I will get rid of my GM Vehicals. The funny thing is I know so many people and they can not believe the lack of Quality in this CTS and the hassle I get from GM dealers when you Take it in. After spending 2300.00 on the CPU one of the mechanics said get rid of this CTS because the timing chain has a habit of going on these cars and it will cost 3500.00 as they have to pull the engine to change it. I took it a step further and asked a service advisor and he told me there was some truth but it deos not happen all the time. Well I made a couple of months and wammo timeing c

Do you drive a 2005 CADILLAC CTS?

Just because a car has been recalled does not mean it is not a reliable car. Millions of cars get recalled every year. Recalls often involve problems that are rare but could cause a serious problem if they occur. So the risk to any given driver is often remote, even though there may be a few high-profile incidents traced to the problem.
