WHILE PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND TRYING TO PULL INTO AN ALLEY THAT LEADS THE MAIN ROAD; MY VEHICLES RPM WENT FROM JUST ABOVE IDLE TO ALMOST 4000. IT CAUSED ME TO FLY THROUGH A STOP SIGN, AS MY BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING. AFTER SOME TUGGING I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND GET IT TO A FULL STOP. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, THEN BACK ON AGAIN, WHILE IN PARK THE RPMS WERE GRADUALLY INCREASING. I STEPPED ON THE GAS WHILE IN PARK, AND IT CORRECTED THE ISSUE. SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE GOING FIFTY FIVE MPH DOWN A COUNTY ROAD. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND THE RPMS CONTINUED INCREASING AGAIN. I GOT TO ALMOST SEVENTY MPH. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AGAIN . I CAME TO A FULL STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. IT STARTED BACK UP WITHOUT INCIDENT. I WILL BE HAVING THE VEHICLE LOOKED AT FIRST THING MONDAY.

AFTER LETTING IT GO FOR A WHILE, IT TOPPED OUT AROUND 52MPH, AS IF THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS WORKING ON ITS OWN. I KEPT PRESSING OFF, BUT THAT WOULDN'T WORK. THE CAR STOPPED REVVING RPMS WHEN I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL.

MY 2004 FORD TAURUS SUDDENLY STARTED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN WITH FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. DRIVING IN CITY STREET AT 30 MPH, THE CAR ALL BY ITSELF SUDDENLY STARTED TO ACCELERATE (WITH MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL) AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 75 MPH. AFTER BRAKING AND PARKING CAR, I TURNED CAR OFF AND NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE ACCELERATOR / THROTTLE CABLES IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED . APPARENTLY IT IS A A BLACK PLASTIC CLIP THAT WAS WEARING OUT AND SLIPPING OFF THE THROTTLE LINKAGE. THE CABLE THEN CAN GET STUCK OR TANGLED CAUSING STUCK ACCELERATION. I CALLED FORD ON JUNE 7, 2018 AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HEAR OF THIS PROBLEM AND THAT THERE WAS NOT ANY RECALLS ATTACHED TO MY VIN. CASE # CAS-14980128. I MENTIONED TO THEM THAT I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND THAT THEY HAVE RECALLED OVER 400,000 FORD TAURUS AND SABLE MODELS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. SINCE MY CAR DID NOT COME UP AS BEING RECALLED, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, OTHER FORD MODELS HAVE THE SAME ISSUES WITH POORLY DESIGNED THROTTLE CABLES.

THE PROBLEM IS THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE CAN COME A LOOSE FROM THE THROTTLE BODY WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED. WHEN THE DRIVER RELEASES THE ACCELERATOR, IF THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAS COME LOOSE, THE FITTING AT THE END OF IT CAN GET JAMMED IN THE CAM THAT ROTATES THE THROTTLE PLATE, AND IT WON ALLOW THE THROTTLE TO CLOSE, CAUSING THE ENGINE RPM TO STAY HIGH. THIS CAN HAPPEN RANDOMLY. IT MAY HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING, AND IT CAN BE DUPLICATED WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK. SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS CONCERN. I "GOOGLED" THROTTLE STICKING ON 04 TAURUS, AND CAME BACK WITH SEVERAL HITS, INCLUDING SOME SHADETREE FIXES. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS IT CAN LEAD TO A CRASH IF THE BRAKES ARENT POWERFUL ENOUGH TO OVERCOME THE ENGINE'S POWER OUTPUT OR THE DRIVER DOESNT THINK TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF (OR THEY TURN THE KEY TOO FAR AND LOCK THE STEERING TOO) AND/OR ENGINE/TRANSMISSION DAMAGE.

I AM FILING DUAL COMPLAINTS PERTAINING TO THIS ISSUE, FIRST WITH THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY AUTHORITY AND A SECOND CONSUMER COMPLAINT WITH MR. PATRICK MORRISEY, ATTORNEY GENERAL WEST VIRGINIA. THE ATTORNEY GENERAL HAS A CONSUMER PROTECTION DIVISION TO HELP RESIDENTS IN THE EVENT OF A SAFETY CONCERN AND A CONSUMER COMPLAINT THAT BRINGS A CONCERN TO THE SAFETY OF OTHERS, AS WELL AS THE SAFETY OF THE PUBLIC AND THE CONSUMER. UNDER "SPEED CONTROL" AS CHECKED OFF, THIS INCLUDES SYSTEMS AND DEVICES INTENDED TO CONTROL (ACCELERATE) THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE TO THE DRIVER'S INTENT SUCH AS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THROTTLE CONTROL CABLES, LINKAGES, ACTUATORS, ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNITS AND SOFTWARE, CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM ACTUATORS AND DEACTIVATING SYSTEMS, AND OTHER COMPONENTS AND SYSTEMS THAT MAY INTERFERE WITH THE SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM (E.G., FLOOR MATS). MY 2004 TAURUS HAS NEARLY 90,000 MILES. IT HAS BEEN RUNNING WELL. ON MULTIPLE INCIDENTS IN 2017 MY TAURUS WOULD WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR INDICATIONS SUDDENLY BEGIN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. I DESCRIBE IT TO OTHERS AS HAVING TO THROTTLE STICK. I WAS FREAKING OUT, BECAUSE CARS BEHIND ME DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND I WAS AFRAID THEY WOULD EASILY BECOME COLLATERAL DAMAGE. I PUT THE CAR INTO NUETRAL AND THE ENGINE ON ITS OWN VOLITION REVVED UP TO OVER 4000 RPM. A PERSON ON THE SIDE WALK THOUGHT I WAS ABOUT TO STRIKE THEM AS THEY JUMP OUT OF THE WAY. I LEARNED 150 FAULTY SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM COMPLAINTS, 6 INJURIES, AND 1 DEATH. THIS PROBLEM IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THE NHTSA HAS KNOWN SINCE 2004, PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INJURED AS A RESULT AND EVEN DEATH REPORTED BUT STRANGELY NO SAFETY RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ABOUT THIS TERRIBLE AND TRAGIC PROBLEM, WHICH IS ANOTHER REASON I AM FILING THE DUAL COMPLAINT IN THE HOPES THAT ATTORNEY GENERAL MORRISEY. HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PUBLIC SAFETY FROM SUCH ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO GAIN SPEED WITHOUT THE FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, REGARDLESS IF WE ARE ON FLAT GROUND OR MOVING UP A SMALL HILL. IF I TAKE MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE THE CAR GAINS SPEED IMMEDIATELY AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO CRASH MY CAR. THE ONLY WAY IT DOES NOT CONTINUE TO GAIN SPEED IS BY PUTTING THE CAR INTO NUETRAL, BRAKING AND TURNING IT OFF. I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH OTHER FORD TAURUS'S CLOSE IN THE SAME YEARS PROXIMITY. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES AND I NOW HAVE MY VEHICLE PARKED FOR SAFETY REASONS.

LOOKS LIKE PLASTIC CLIP THAT ATTACHES THE SPEED CONTROL CABLE SHEATH TO THE THROTTLE BODY BRACKET HAS BROKEN, AND THE SHEATH CATCHES ON THE BRACKET HOLDING THE THROTTLE OPEN.

I SLAMMED ON BRAKES- NOTHING HAPPENED. ATTEMPTED TO PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL- NOTHING HAPPENED. I COULD NOT STEER THE CAR AS IT WAS GOING AT LEAST 100MPH. I WEAVED BETWEEN 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC BEFORE HITTING A CAR'S BUMPER AND FLIPPING OVER 2-3 TIMES AND LANDED UPRIGHT IN THE DITCH IN THE MEDIUM. I WAS AWAKE THE ENTIRE TIME- IN SHEER TERROR. HAD I NOT BEEN WEARING A SEATBELT I LIKELY WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THIS 2004 FORD TAURUS 24VT HAS HAD MANY OTHER ACCIDENTS AND FORD MOTOR CO. FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR KNOWN ISSUES THAT THEY CONTINUE TO HAVE REPEATED ISSUES WITH. TODAY I NOTICED MY CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE. LATER AS I PULLED UP TO A STOP SIGN, MY CAR REVVED FORWARD AND I HAD DIFFICULTY STOPPING IT WITH THE BRAKES. WHEN I PROCEEDED, IT ACCELERATED QUICKLY WITH NO GAS APPLIED, UNTIL I STOPPED IT. IT CONTINUED TO REV AFTER PUTTING IT IN PARK. I TROUBLESHOT IT WITH A COWORKER WHO SAW A FEW OTHER FRIENDS WITH THIS PROBLEM, AND HE SHOWED ME WHAT IT WAS: MY CRUISE CONTROL CABLE DISCONNECTED FROM THE THROTTLE, AND THEN STUCK IN FRONT OF THE THROTTLE SO THAT IT WOULD NOT CLOSE. THE CLIP LOCKING THE CRUISE CABLE TO THE THROTTLE IS DEFECTIVE. VERY DANGEROUS! I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS.

I SPOTTED THIS JUST AS THE SHEATH WAS BEING BIT INTO AND HAVE REROUTED. IT IS LIKELY THAT BOTH CABLES WOULD HAVE EVENTUALLY HAVE BEEN CUT THROUGH. THE PROBLEM RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES ON A 4 -5 MILE DRIVE. CAR WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HOLDING THE THROTTLE OPEN. CRUISE CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED AND PROBLEM HAS NOT RECURRED. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE AND MENTIONED THE HIGH NUMBER OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS SEEN ON THIS SITE.

TO START DECELERATING ON A MULTIPLE-LANE FREEWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, I REMOVED MY FOOT COMPLETELY FROM THE ACCELERATOR. I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THAT INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN, THE CAR BEGAN TO GRADUALLY SPEED UP EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS NOT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE SPEED ROSE FROM 45 TO 48 TO 52 MPH WITHOUT MY TOUCHING THE PEDAL. I THEN BRAKED, AND THE CAR SLOWED, ONLY TO RESUME SPEEDING UP WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. AFTER I BRAKED AGAIN, HARDER, THE CAR SLOWED AND THE GHOST ACCELERATION PROBLEM WENT AWAY. HOWEVER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE 50-MILE FREEWAY TRIP. THE PEDAL SEEMED TO BE MECHANICALLY STICKING. THE PROBLEM DID NOT SEEM TO BE ELECTRONIC, ALTHOUGH I COULD NOT BE SURE. AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY, THE ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK SEVERAL TIMES WHILE ON LOCAL ROADS. I WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM BY NOW AND WAS READY AT ANY TIME TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL IF NECESSARY. I DID SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL ONCE TO AVOID A POTENTIAL COLLISION WHEN APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION. WHILE THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL, I TRIED TAPPING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO SEE IF THAT WOULD UNSTICK IT. INSTEAD, THE RPMS MERELY INCREASED TO A HIGHER LEVEL, STICKING AGAIN AT THE HIGHER RATE. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR HOME, MOSTLY ON THE FREEWAY, WITHOUT ANY SERIOUS MISHAPS. I PREVIOUSLY HAD BEEN SOMEWHAT SKEPTICAL OF THE MUCH-REPORTED ACCELERATION PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA VEHICLES. HOWEVER, I CAN NOW SAY FROM EXPERIENCE THAT WHEN YOUR CAR HOLDS ITS SPEED OR SPEEDS UP AFTER YOU LIFT YOUR FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR, IT'S A STRANGE AND UNSETTLING EXPERIENCE. I CAN EASILY IMAGINE SOME DRIVERS PANICKING. WE WERE LUCKY THAT I WAS DRIVING, AND NOT MY WIFE OR KIDS, WHO HAVE MUCH LESS DRIVING EXPERIENCE. AT HOME, I DISCOVERED ONLINE THAT FORD HAS RECALLED MANY 2000-2003 TAURUSES FOR STICKING-ACCELERATOR PROBLEMS. I CAN TELL YOU THAT IT'S A PROBLEM FOR OUR 2004 TAURUS AS WELL.

TURNED OFF THE AUTO. CHECKED THAT THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT RESTRICTING THE GAS PEDAL. OPENED THE AUTO HOOD OPERATED THROTTLE BY HAND AND THE THROTTLE SEEMED TO RELEASE. CONTINUED TO DESTINATION WITHOUT PROBLEMS. CHECKED THROTTLE AT DESTINATION AND NOTED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS DISCONNECTED.

I WAS MAKING A PASS ON THE HIGHWAY ONE EVENING ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AND STARTING OUT AT 45MPH I ACCELERATED UP TO 55MPH AND COMPLETED THE PASS. THE ACCELERATION TIME AS BRIEF BUT WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE PEDAL THE ENGINE KEPT ACCELERATING AND MAINTAINED A 2500 - 3500 RPM. CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON! BEING THAT I'VE HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE WHEN I WAS IN A MAJOR CITY I KNEW I HAD TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE CAR, HIT THE GAS PEDAL A FEW TIMES AND USUALLY IT GOES AWAY. THIS TIME I COULD NOT BECAUSE I WAS DOING 65MPH NOW AND QUICKLY APPROACHING +70MPH. SO I CALMLY PUT THE BREAKS ON EVER SO SLIGHTLY TO KEEP MY SPEED IN A REASONABLE RANGE AND STARTED TO MESS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL, TURNING IT ON AND OFF, COAST AND ACCELERATE AND TURNING IT OFF AGAIN. NONE OF THIS WORKED. IT WOULDN'T EVEN ACCELERATE FROM THE CRUISE CONTROLS! BUT FINALLY BUY SOME LUCK AFTER I HIT THE OFF BUTTON ON THE CRUISE CONTROL IN PANIC, THE ACCELERATION PEDAL POPPED BACK UP ONTO MY FOOT WHERE I HAD IT RESTING. DISASTER AVERTED! COME TO FIND OTHERS WHO ARE DRIVING THE SAME VEHICLE (YEAR AND MODEL) IN MY COMPANY EXPERIENCED THIS IDENTICAL ISSUE. ONE INCIDENT ACTUALLY LEFT THE VEHICLE TOTALED BUT THANK GOD OUR ASSOCIATE WAS UNHARMED. I FEEL THAT THIS BEING A POPULAR CAR PEOPLE SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BEFORE LIVES ARE LOST.

SOUTHGATE FORD TURNED ME AWAY ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON TO RETURN ON MONDAY, MARCH 18TH STATING: "THEY ARE TOO BUSY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS OF LITTLE CONCERN AND TO RETURN ON MONDAY". WITHIN 2 MILES OF LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP HEADING NORTH ON FORT STREET, I WAS UNABLE TO BRING THE 2004 FORD TAURUS TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT. THE TAURUS ENGINE RACED AND ROARED AT OVER 4,000 RPMS AND REACHED SPEEDS BETWEEN 45 AND 50 MILES PER HOUR. I TRIED TO BRAKE WITH ONE FOOT AND THEN TWO FEET. THE BRAKES COULD NOT BRING THE TAURUS TO A STOP AND IT FELT LIKE THE BRAKES WERE PUSHING BACK TOWARD ME. I SWERVED TO THE LEFT TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND CROSSED OVER THE MEDIAN TO SOUTHBOUND FORT STREET. I ATTEMPTED TO REACH A PARKING LOT TO AVOID ONCOMING TRAFFIC AS THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE AND ROAR. THE BRAKES COULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR. I MISSED THE ENTRANCE OF THE PARKING LOT BY A FEW FEET AND HIT THE CURB. THE IMPACT OF HITTING THE CURB THREW MY BODY TOWARD THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. THE CAR CONTINUED TO LUNGE FORWARD UNTIL IT HIT THE BRICK BUILDING IN THE LOT AT APPROXIMATELY 47 MILES PER HOUR. THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED IN THIS HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH A BRICK BUILDING. I HAVE SUSTAINED BRUISING FROM MY LEFT EAR DOWN TO MY KNEES AND MULITPLE FRACTURES IN MY RIGHT WRIST. PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. I WILL NOT KNOW UNTIL TOMORROW WHAT HE PLANS ON DOING. HOWEVER AFTER SOME ONLINE RESEARCH I PLAN ON TELLING HIM TO REPLACE THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE AND THE PIN. I WENT ON LINE AND FOUND OTHERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE BECOMES DETACHED FROM THE THROTTLE CAM. I INSPECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE AND FOUND IT WAS IN FACT DETACHED. NEEDLESS TO THIS SUDDEN ACCELERATION COULD HAVE LED TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. AT A MINIMUM IT DID SOME WEAR TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND POSSIBLY WHEEL BEARING DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF THE EXCESSIVE HEAT.

ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE FIRST BEING 01/27/12, I HAVE EXPERIENCED MY CAR ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. IT FELT WAS AS IF THE CAR WAS POSSESSED. IT SPED FROM 40MPH TO 55MPH WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS. I HAD TO STRUGGLE TO BRAKE AT A RED LIGHT, FIGHTING THE CAR AS IT TRIED TO RESIST STOPPING. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP, PLACE THE CAR IN PARK AND PUT THE PARKING BRAKE ON AS I WAITED AT THE RED LIGHT. ONCE THE LIGHT WAS GREEN AND IT WAS TIME TO DRIVE AGAIN, THE MOMENT I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, THE CAR IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED RAPIDLY, WITHOUT ANY ASSISTANCE FROM ME. THIS WAS DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC, SO I WAS VERY SCARED, AND BROKE INTO TEARS WHEN I FINALLY PARKED AT WORK SAFELY. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THREE OTHER OCCASIONS OVER THE PAST TWO MONTHS, ONE WHERE MY CAR WENT FROM 30MPH TO 55MPH ON ITS OWN. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OF THE BRAKE, THE CAR PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WITHOUT MY FOOT BEING ON THE ACCELERATOR. I WENT DOWN ONE CITY BLOCK WITH THE CAR STILL MOVING WITHOUT ME PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR. I THEN PULLED THE CAR OVER AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV AT APPROX 3000-4000 RPM. I THEN TURNED THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. I THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO REV AT 3000-4000 RPM WHILE STILL IN PARK. I THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF AND CALLED FOR SOMEONE TO PICK ME UP AS I BELIEVED THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN MY FRIEND ARRIVED, HE ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR, AND IT STARTED NORMALLY. HE THEN DROVE THE CAR BACK TO MY RESIDENCE WITHOUT INCIDENT. THEN ON THE AFTERNOON OF MARCH 14TH, 2012 I WAS AGAIN DRIVING THROUGH A RESIDENTIAL AREA AT AROUND 30 MPH. I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE WHEN APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO LURCH FORWARD. I BECAME VERY AFRAID AS I WAS CLOSE TO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND IT APPEARED AS THOUGH THE CAR WOULD NOT COMPLETELY STOP. AFTER PRESSING DOWN HARD ON THE BRAKE, IT DID COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, BUT WAS JERKY AND SHAKY WHEN IDLE. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PROCEEDED DOWN THE STREET AS I COULD NOT FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER BECAUSE THERE WERE CHILDREN IN THE AREA AND I FEARED THE CAR MAY KEEP GOING IF I AGAIN ATTEMPTED TO STOP. AS IT DID ON 2/14, THE CAR COASTED DOWN THE STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 30-40 MPH WITHOUT ME PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. THIS TIME, I DROVE INTO A STREET WITHOUT MUCH TRAFFIC AND AFTER APPROXIMATELY 700 FT, THE CAR BEGAN TO DRIVE NORMALLY.

UPDATED 04/13/12 THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DECELERATE NORMALLY. THERE WAS A HIGHER THAN NORMAL ENGINE RPM AND HE HAD TO USE HEAVIER THAN NORMAL BRAKING TO BOTH SLOW AND STOP THE VEHICLE. JUST PRIOR TO ARRIVING AT A SAFE PARKING AREA, THE IDLE RETURNED TO NORMAL. AFTER A BRIEF STOP, THE CONSUMER WENT BACK HOME. INITIALLY, THE IDLE WAS NORMAL, BUT THEN THE HIGH IDLE RETURNED. THE VEHICLE WA TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE THE NEXT DAY, WHERE HE NOTICED TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LEAKING. THE TRANSMISSION DIPSTICK SHAFT AND DIPSTICK WAS EXTENDED ABOUT 3-4 INCHES ONTO THE GROUND. ALL FLUIDS APPEARED NORMAL AFTER INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED. THE CONSUMER REPLACED THE IAC AND RETURNED TO THE MECHANIC TO VERIFY PROPER INSTALLATION. THE CONSUMER THEN DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE FROM THE THROTTLE BODY AS THE HIGH IDLE PERSISTED. JUST SAW THIS THAT YOU WERE INVESTIGATING ON 2005-06 FORD TAURUS MODELS IN LOCAL PAPER FOR SIMILAR COMPLAINT. MY COMPLAINT IS FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL OR THROTTLE CONTROL ON MY FORD TAURUS 2004. MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. AFTER THAT, SOMETIMES MY CAR WOULD JUST LOCK ON USUALLY AT 40 TO 60 MPH AS FAR AS ACCELERATION AND EVENTUALLY DISENGAGE AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME AFTER PRESSING GAS PEDAL OR I WOULD SHUT MY CAR OFF TO RESET/REBOOT. IT HAPPENED MANY TIMES, BUT LUCKILY NO ACCIDENTS, JUST A LOT OF WEAR AND TEAR ON BRAKES. I BOUGHT A 2004 FORD TAURUS SE BRAND NEW. AFTER ABOUT TWO WEEKS I STARTED TO GET VIBRATION FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BETWEEN 42-45 MILES PH. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND A MFG WARNING CAME ON FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THE DIRECTIVE WAS FOLLOWED BY THE DEALER SO I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS OVER. WITHIN TWO DAYS LATER THE PROBLEM GOT MORE SEVERE AND IN ADDITION TO THE VIBRATING GAS PEDAL AND STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE. I MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT AND BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AT THE DEALER AND AFTER WAITING TWO HOURS FOR MY CAR THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS UNDER RESEARCH TO FIND A PERMANENT FIX FOR BOTH PROBLEMS. I TOLD THE DEALER THE THIS IS A 2004 FORD TAURUS WITH 2,900 MILES ON IT AND THE PROBLEM WAS GETTING WORSE BY THE DAY AND THAT I WANTED MY CAR FIXED FOR FEAR THAT SOMETHING WORSE WOULD HAPPEN. THE DEALER AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND TOTALLY IGNORED MY SAFETY IN THIS CAR. FORD MOTOR COMPANY FURTHER SAID CHECK BACK IN ABOUT 6 MONTHS MAYBE WE MIGHT HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEMS. IN THE MEANTIME THEY COULD CARE LESS IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO ME IN THEIR CAR KNOWING I HAD PROGRESSIVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR AND THAT I WAS TOTALLY UNSATISFIED. I EVEN SUGGESTED THAT THEY KEEP THE CAR UNTIL IT WAS FIXED AND LEND ME A LOANER CAR UNTIL THE CAR WAS SAFE, AGAIN THEY REFUSED. PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT BOTH PROBLEMS WERE VERIFIED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT MY CAR THEY DIDN'T DENY THE PROBLEMS BUT REFUSED TO FIX IT FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY.

I HAVE HAD THREE INSTANCES WHEREIN AT LOW SPEED (5-10 MPH) AND ON EITHER WET ROAD , GRAVEL OR OTHER ROUGH SURFACE, AND ON ATTEMPT TO BRAKE, I HAVE EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE AND/OR THE ENGINE SIMULTANEOUSLY ACCELERATES. I HAVE HAD TO PLACE THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO OVERCOME THE FORWARD SURGE. ON ONE OCCASION I FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN. I HAD PRESENTED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER IN APRIL, 2004. AT THAT TIME THE DEALER (SMITH CAIRNS FORD,YONKERS,NY) CLAIMED THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE UNEVEN. SUBSEQUENT TO THAT REPAIR, I EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM ONLY THIS TIME THE "ABS"AND TRACTION CONTROL" WARNING INDICATORS ACTIVATED. THE DEALER REPLACED LEFT FRONT WHEEL TRACTION CONTROL SENSOR. THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN ON JULY 8, 2004. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED AND I AM AWAITING ADVICE FROM THE SERVICE MANAGER AS TO WHEN THE COMPANY SERVICE REP. CAN INSPECT THE VEHICLE.
