TAKATA RECALL I HAVE A 2005 PONTIAC VIBE THAT WAS PART OF TWO TAKATA RECALLS. AFTER THE GM DEALERSHIP WORKED ON IT AND REPLACED THE DRIVER AIRBAG ON THE VEHICLE, THE RED AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE TACHOMETER STARTED GLOWING AND HAS GLOWED SINCE. I TOOK IT IN FOR THE 2ND RECALL RECENTLY AND HAS THE PASSENGER AIRBAG REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP GAVE ME A CODE OF B1811 WHICH MEANS THE AIRBAG WILL NOT GO OFF IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT.. GM AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX THE ISSUE. THIS LIGHT WAS TRIGGERED AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED AT THE DEALERSHIP. WHY WOULDN'T THIS BE COVERED AND FIXED IF DURING THE RECALL? INSTEAD GM AND THEIR DEALERSHIP SAY THAT IT ISN'T UNDER WARRANTY AND THEIR WOULD BE A DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE OF $99 PLUS A COST TO FIX THE ISSUE. SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE AND IT WAS CAUSED BY THE RECALL WORK.

CONTACTING THE GM RECALL LINE, MY CASE NUMBER 71-1508506555 WAS ASSIGNED TO A SENIOR ADVISOR NAMED RUEBEN (866-790-5600 X 58210-88) RUEBEN GAVE ME NO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND DID NOT CALL ME BACK AS PROMISED. 8-28 I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE 15 INFLATORS IN STOCK. I FIND IT DISTURBING AND ODD THAT THE PROSCRIPTION ONLY APPLIES TO THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, EVEN THOUGH THE WARNING INCLUDES THE STATEMENT THAT MALFUNCTION OF THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG COULD RESULT IN "METAL FRAGMENTS STRIKING THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS [INCLUDING, PRESUMABLY, ME] POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH," I AM ALSO TROUBLED THAT NO ADVICE OR ACCOMMODATION IS MADE FOR THOSE FOR WHOM NOT USING THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT AN OPTION, NOR IS THERE PROVISION BY GM/TOYOTA/TAKATA TO PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT CAR UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE REPLACEMENT PART IS AVAILABLE, OR AT LEAST SOME SORT OF REMUNERATION FOR WHAT IT WILL COST THOSE AFFECTED TO RENT A CAR WHEN THEY MUST USE A FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT BUT STILL MY FACE WAS INJURED AND MY LEFT LEG HIT THE STEERING COLUMN. I ALSO ENDED UP HITTING MY LEG ON THE STEERING COLUMN WITH MAJOR BRUISING. THE IMPACT WITH THE STEERING ALSO CAUSED MY TEETH TO GO THROUGH MY TOP LIP AND BROKE NUMEROUS TEETH. MY GIRL'S VEHICLE STOPPED ON IT'S OWN SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO WARNING, BUT LATER WOULD RESTART. THE ENGINE JUST KEPT STOPPING SHE WOULD SAY IN VARIOUS TURNS, BUT WITH JIGGLING THE KEY IT WOULD START BACK UP.THE LAST TIME WHILE TURNING LEFT AT A LIGHT THE VEHICLE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN AGAIN. THIS TIME, THE VEHICLE JUST MADE IT COASTING THRU THE INTERSECTION. I NOTICED THE KEY CHAIN WAS OVERLOADED WITH MACE, MINI BASEBALL TIGERS BAT, 15 KEYS, PICTURES ETC. WE TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THE ENGINE MUST BE LOCKED AND WE NEED TO SCRAP THE CAR BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT GET IT TO FIRE UP. I BELIEVE IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT SOMETIMES MADE CONTACT. I JUST GOT A 4TH NOTICE THAT THE 4TH SET OF AIRBAGS ARE DEFECTIVE. THE CAR IS CRUSHED NOW, BUT IT SEEMS PRETTY LOGICAL THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS FAULTY. I BOUGHT HER A NEW CAR BECAUSE IT KEPT DYING IN TURNS. I DID NOT PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER UNTIL AFTER THE PUBLICITY. THE SCOPE OF THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO THE 2005 PONTIAC VIBE. TL CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC VIBE. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT WHICH CAUSES $5000 DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HE WAS DRIVING AT 60MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASH INTO HIS. EVERYONE WAS WEARING THEIR SEAT BELTS ,THEIR WAS ONE PERSON INJURED BUT THEY DID NOT GO TO THE HOSPITAL UNTIL FOUR DAYS AFTER. A POLICE REPORT IS AVAILABLE IF NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AWAY FROM THE SCENE. THE GM AND TOYOTA MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED BUT NO ONE HAS RESPONDED AS OF THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THERE WAS NO MAINTENANCE OR SERVICE PERFORMED ON THE AIR BAGS BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. THE VIN NUMBER IS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000

MY INSURANCE COMPANY STOPPED COUNTING THE DAMAGE AFTER IT HIT $10,000. IT WAS AT AN ANGLE VERSUS JUST STRAIGHT ON. CAR HAS LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON IT. MAIN CONCERN WAS THE AIR BAG DIDN'T GO OFF WHEN THE COLLISION HAPPENED. LUCKILY EVERYONE WAS FINE. BUT WHAT IS BEING DONE ABOUT THIS TWO PROBLEMS?

WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ABOUT WHY THIS HAPPENED AND I WAS TOLD THAT "AIR BAGS ONLY DEPLOY AT CERTAIN ANGLES." WELL, IF IT WAS A DIRECT FRONT END COLLISION THAT CAUSED $8,600 WORTH OF DAMAGE, DON'T YOU THINK THE AIR BAG SHOULD HAVE GONE OFF? I HAD TO REPLACE EVERYTHING BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND THE BUMPER, THIS IS RIDICULOUS THAT I GOT THE RUN -AROUND ABOUT THE AIR BAG. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT AIR BAGS IN MANY VIBES ARE FAULTY AND THAT PONTIAC ISN'T DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

DT: THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE 2005 PONTIAC VIBE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES FOR AN INDICATOR LIGHT THAT INDICATES THAT THE AIR BAG IS INOPERATIVE. THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES THAT IF THIS LIGHT IS ON THE AIR BAG COULD DEPLOY AT ANYTIME. THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED, AND ADVISED THE CONSUMER TO BRING THE CAR TO DEALER AGAIN SINCE THE LIGHT IS STILL NOT WORKING PROPERLY. NOW THE INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG IS NOT SHOWING IF THE AIR BAG IS ON OR OFF. WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE SEA THE LIGHT IS SHOWING OFF FOR THE AIR BAG WHEN THE LIGHT SHOULD SAY ON. WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK THE CAR OUT FOR A DRIVE THE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON AT ALL.
