TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AUTONATION HONDA THORNTON ROAD (LOCATED AT 1979 THORNTON RD, LITHIA SPRING, GA 30122, (770) 674-6078) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SPARK PLUG WAS MISFIRING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, A COMPUTER RESET WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 09633930. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

IN JULY OF 2017 MY CAR STARTED SHOWING THAT THERE WAS A INSTABILITY IN THE ENGINE. TURNS OUT THAT HONDA KNEW ABOUT THIS POSSIBLE PROBLEM AND HAD A PROCEDURE TO DEAL WITH IT WITHOUT FIXING THE UNDERLYING CAUSE. IT SEEMS THAT THEY MADE THE PISTONS INCORRECTLY AT THE FACTORY AND THEY COULD LEAK OIL INTO THE SPARK PLUGS CAUSING MISFIRING IN THE CYLINDERS. I WENT TO HONDA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS CORRECTED AND THEY SAID THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE SPARK PLUGS, CLEAN UP THE OIL AND TOP IT OFF. THEN THEY WOULD DO OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS FOR A FEW MONTHS TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. AND IT WAS GONE FOR A WHILE. JUST LONG ENOUGH FOR THE WARRANTY TO EXPIRE SO WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN, I WOULD BE LEFT HOLDING THE BAG TO PAY THE $2700 FOR THE REPAIR THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE WHEN I FIRST WENT IN 2017. I CALLED HONDA TO REVIEW MY CASE AND THEY DENIED ME TWICE STATING THE AGE OF THE CAR NEGATED ANY ASSISTANCE FROM THEM. MY HONDA CASE NUMBER IS 09490208.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL OR WARRANTY CAMPAIGN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

MECH TECH INFORMED/SHOWED ME THAT PLUG HAD FOULED - DUE TO POSSIBLE PISTON RING PROBLEM. LEARNED FROM CARS.COM THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH PISTON RINGS OF 2008 - 2012 ACCORDS AND HONDA HAD OFFERED A SPECIAL EXTENDED WARRANTY TO CORRECT THEM. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED BY HONDA OF THIS CORRECTIVE ACTION, ERGO I MISSED THE EIGHT YEARS AND UNLIMITED MILEAGE FROM THE ORIGINAL VEHICLE-IN-SERVICE DATE DEADLINE (CAR WAS PURCHASED IN JUNE 2010). VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND AIR BAG RECALL. WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE KICKED WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. HONDA STATES OIL WAS 3 QUARTS TOO LOW. OIL INDICATOR WAS AT 30% AND NEVER WARRANTED LOW OIL. OIL WAS ADDED AND I WAS INSTRUCTED TO COME BACK ONCE I HAVE DRIVEN 1000 MILES TO SEE IF ENGINE IS BURNING OR CONSUMING TOO MUCH OIL. THE ROUTINE OIL CHANGE WAS COMPLETED AND THE GRINDING NOISE WAS GONE. THE CONTACT THEN RECEIVED A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM HONDA FOR OIL CONSUMPTION TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER EVERY 1,000 MILES FOR SEVERAL MONTHS WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A HALF QUART OF OIL WAS BEING USED. THE OIL WAS REFILLED. AT THE END OF THE TESTING PERIOD, THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT CONSUMING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE VEHICLE CONSUMED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL AND NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER WHERE A CASE WAS OPENED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000.

I WAS INFORMED AT THE TIME THAT THE WARRANTY HAD BEEN EXTENDED TO COVER THE COMPUTER ISSUE NOT AN OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. WAS ALSO INFORMED THE ISSUE WAS FIXED. THE OIL IS NOW CHANGED EVERY 3K MILES (WHICH DIFFERS FROM RECOMMENDATIONS FROM HONDA TO CHANGE THE OIL ACCORDING TO THE MAINTENANCE MINDER VARYING BETWEEN 4K AND 5K MILES) AND HAVING TO ADD .5 TO A FULL QUART OF OIL EVERY THOUSAND MILES. THERE HAVE BEEN NO OIL STAINS WHERE I PARK ON A REGULAR BASIS, LEADING TO BELIEVE IT IS NOT LEAKING BUT BURNING OR BEING CONSUMED. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM HONDA STATING THAT MY CAR MAY HAVE A DEFECT IN THE PISTONS, AND/OR PISTON RINGS THAT CAUSES EXCESSIVE OIL USAGE. AS A RESULT OF THIS HONDA WOULD DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM BUT ONLY UP TO 125,000 MILES. AT THE TIME I RECEIVED THE LETTER MY CAR HAD 150,000 MILES. I HAVE NOTICED EXCESSIVE OIL USAGE IN MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD WHEN COMPARED TO MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD WITH THE SAME 2.4 LITER 4 CYLINDER ENGINE. THE 2010 REQUIRES OIL FREQUENTLY BUT THE 2004 RARELY REQUIRES OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. I CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND SPOKE TO 3 DIFFERENT PEOPLE AFTER I ASKED FOR MY CASE TO BE ESCALATED TO A HIGHER LEVEL. THEY HAVE REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME. MY OPINION IS THAT NO MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE ABLE TO SHIRK THEIR DUTY TO REPAIR OR REPLACE A KNOWN DEFECT. ESPECIALLY WHEN I HAVE EVIDENCE THAT SHOWS THEIR ARBITRARY CHOICE OF EXTENDING THE ENGINE WARRANTY TO 125,000 MILES IS NONSENSE. MY 2004 ACCORD HAS MORE MILES THAN THE 2010 BUT DOESN'T REQUIRE OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THAT TELLS ME THAT THE 2010 WITH FEWER MILES MAY SUFFER FROM THIS KNOWN DEFECT THAT HONDA HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR REGARDLESS OF THE MILES ON THE CAR.

WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY ON MY WAY TO WORK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER EXITING I CHECKED FOR ERROR CODES (AS I ALWAYS CARRY THE P-CODE READER WITH ME). THE CODE STATED THAT CYLINDER 3 WAS MISFIRING. I DOUBLE CHECKED ALL SPARK PLUGS TO MAKE SURE THE CONNECTIONS WERE OKAY. THE ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUED TO COME ON, WITH A ROUGH IDLE, AND ENGINE CODES STARTED TO BE MORE SPONTANEOUS AS IT STATED RANDOM MISFIRES/MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRES. I TOOK MY CAR TO HONDA AND WAS TOLD THAT I LIKELY NEED TO REPLACE THE IGNITION COIL, SO I DID THAT AND STILL EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. I THEN TOOK IT TO A SHOP WHERE THEY ALSO SUSPECTED BAD IGNITION COILS. THEY THEN DID A VALVE ADJUSTMENT AND WAS POSITIVE THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER PERFORMING THAT JOB, THE CAR CONTINUED WITH THE SAME ROUGH IDLE BUT ONLY POPULATED THE ERROR CODE STATING CYLINDER 3 IS MISFIRING. THEY TOOK OUT THE SPARK PLUG AND IGNITION COIL ON CYLINDER 3 AND DISCOVERED A CRACKED INTAKE VALVE. I'VE SPOKEN TO AT LEAST 10 SHOPS, 2 HONDA SERVICE DEALERSHIPS, AND 2 PERSONAL MECHANIC FRIENDS THAT ALL STATE THAT A BROKEN INTAKE VALVE AT 107K IS VERY UNUSUAL AND LIKELY A RESULT OF POOR DESIGN. I HAVE READ ABOUT THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR ALL V6 HONDA ACCORDS BETWEEN 2008-2012. UNFORTUNATELY THE 2010 V6 6 MT IS ONE OF THE FEW MODELS LEFT OUT OF THAT LAW SUIT. I HAVE ALREADY HAD A SHOP START ON THE REPAIRS AS I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO HAVE THEM DONE ASAP. I FIGURE AN UNLIKELY EVENT LIKE THIS IS DUE TO POOR ENGINE DESIGN SINCE I HAVE THOROUGHLY KEPT UP WITH ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE (SPARK PLUGS, TIMING BELT, WATER PUMP, OIL CHANGE, ETC..). I FEEL THAT HONDA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS 2000$ DOLLAR REPAIR.

THE PAST TWO TIMES I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE OIL LEVEL IS BELOW THE DIPSTICK. BOTH TIMES I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE WITH 20% OIL LIFE SHOWING. SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD SOMETIMES GETS "BLOCKED". THAT IS THE ONLY WAY I CAN DESCRIBE IT, YOU GO TO SHIFT AND CANT GET INTO GEAR, EITHER HAVE TO GO BACK TO 2ND OR BACK TO NEUTRAL AND THEN BACK IN. THE "DOUBLE PUMP SHIFT" USUALLY WORKS. I HAVE ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE SPEAKER DECK RATTLING WHICH I HAD SUPPOSEDLY FIXED UNDER WARRANTY BUT ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.

I BOUGHT MY CAR NEW IN 2010 HONDA ACCORD 4 CYLINDER. I HAD BEEN TAKING MY CAR TO GET THE OIL CHANGED ON A REGULAR BASIS TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP. SINCE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR, MY CAR STARTED MAKING NOISE SO IT TOOK IT TO DEALER TO CHECK THE REASON. HE TOLD THAT ME THAT MY CAR IS OUT OF OIL EVEN THOUGH INDICATOR SAY OIL LEVEL IS 70% AND THAT IS THE REASON FOR IT'S MAKING SOUND. HE TOLD ME THAT HE COULD NOT DETECT THE ISSUE AND BRING IT ONE MORE TIME. HE TEMPORARILY FIXED THE ISSUE BY FILLING THE OIL. IT AGAIN HAPPENED AFTER A MONTH AND HE AGAIN FILLED IN OIL BUT HE CHARGED ME THIS TIME FOR FILLING THE OIL. HE SAID THAT WE WILL NEED TO DO "OIL CONSUMPTION" TEST AS HE DOESN'T SEE ANY LEAKAGE EITHER. THIS IS REALLY SCARY TO ME WHEN I SEE THAT THERE IS ALREADY CLASS SUIT AGAINST HONDA FOR THE SAME REASON BUT THAT'S APPLICABLE FOR 6 CYLINDERS ENGINE AND NOT FOR 4 CYLINDERS. WHEN I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT IT, HE SIMPLY DENIED ANY LAWSUIT OR CLASS ACTION OR RECALL FOR ACCORD 2010. IT'S DEFECT IN A CAR BUT NEITHER HONDA ACCEPT IT OR DEALER AGREES TO IT. HOWEVER, I'M SPENDING MY MONEY AND TIME TO FILL IN THE OIL EVERY MONTH AFTER ONLY 1000 MILES. IT'S RIDICULOUS AND FRUSTRATING AS WELL.

CURRENTLY, HONDA WILL ONLY FIX THIS ISSUE UNDER WARRANTY. THEY ALSO GIVE THE CAR OWNER A REALLY HARD TIME PROVING THE ISSUE, REQUIRING THE CAR BE LEFT AT A DEALERSHIP OVERNIGHT TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. A LOANER VEHICLE IS AT YOUR EXPENSE. IF THE CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, THIS EXPENSIVE REPAIR BILL IS AT YOUR EXPENSE. IF YOUR CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE NOISE, BOTH THE LOANER CAR AND DIAGNOSTIC FEE ARE AT YOUR EXPENSE. THIS GREATLY REDUCES THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WILLING AND ABLE TO HAVE THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE FIXED. RUNNING ENGINE COMPONENTS WITHOUT OIL SHOULD BE A RECALL. IT IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE THAT CAN CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS WITH YOUR ENGINE. IF THE ENGINE STALLS UNEXPECTEDLY, IT COULD LEAD TO DEATH.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING ANY SPEED, ROCKS WOULD ENTER THE GRILL AND DAMAGE VARIOUS COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CONDENSER FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE FROM STOPS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND ENGINE MOUNTS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND COVERED ALL REPAIR COSTS, BUT INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE REMAINED AND THERE WERE NO OTHER REMEDIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 13,000.
