RECALL FOR SEATS : MOTORCYCLE

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THE LATCH SECURING THE PASSENGER SEAT ON THESE MOTORCYCLES CAN FAIL ALLOWING THE SEAT AND PASSENGER TO FALL OFF THE REAR OF THE MOTORCYCLE.

Description VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THE LATCH SECURING THE PASSENGER SEAT ON THESE MOTORCYCLES CAN FAIL ALLOWING THE SEAT AND PASSENGER TO FALL OFF THE REAR OF THE MOTORCYCLE.
Consequences THE PASSENGER COULD SUSTAIN SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH.
Corrective action DEALERS WILL REPLACE THESE SEATS WITH A NEW SEAT THAT INCORPORATES AN IMPROVED LATCH MECHANISM AND A MORE RIGID BASE. IN ADDITION, SOME BODY WORK AROUND THE PASSENGER SEAT WILL BE REMOVED SO THAT THE REPLACEMENT SEAT WILL FIT PROPERLY.
Notes OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN APRIL 23, 1998.OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR MOTORCYCLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT MOTO AMERICA AT 1-800-USA-MOTO (1-800-872-6686).ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
