RECALL FOR STEERING : GEAR BOX (OTHER THAN RACK AND PINION)

THE ELASTIC PORTION OF THE RETAINING BOLTS USED TO SUPPORT THE STEERING GEAR BOX MAY BE TOO SHORT. AS A RESULT, THESE BOLTS WILL NOT LOCK SUFFICIENTLY, CAUSING THE NUTS TO LOOSEN AND ALLOWING THE STEERING GEAR BOX ASSEMBLY TO BECOME INOPERATIVE.

Description THE ELASTIC PORTION OF THE RETAINING BOLTS USED TO SUPPORT THE STEERING GEAR BOX MAY BE TOO SHORT. AS A RESULT, THESE BOLTS WILL NOT LOCK SUFFICIENTLY, CAUSING THE NUTS TO LOOSEN AND ALLOWING THE STEERING GEAR BOX ASSEMBLY TO BECOME INOPERATIVE.
Consequences
Corrective action THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE STEERING GEAR BOX AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE SHORT BOLTS WITH LONGER BOLTS AT NO CHARGE TO OWNER.
