REAR A/C SWITCH BURNED UP. SMELLED PLASTIC BURNING , SAW SMOKE CAME OUT OF REAR A/C SWITCH ON DASH. POPPED OFF SWITCH AND FOUND BURNED SWITCH AND WIRES.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK

5/2/2011 - LAS VEGAS , NV
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET ASTRO. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN BRAKING ON ANY UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD ACTIVATE INDEPENDENTLY WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ABS WARNING LIGHT MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN THREE SEPARATE CRASHES AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE. ON ONE OCCASION WHILE TRAVELING 45 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED ABRUPTLY BUT DID NOT RESPOND AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WAS ONE REPORTED INJURY AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS WAS ACTIVATED AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 151,000.

2000 CHEVY ASTRO VAN ABS PROBLEM. WHILE TRAVELING AT LOW SPEED CITIES, PARKING LOTS ETC... WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE ABS APPEARS TO KICK ON CAUSING FAILURE TO STOP. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE VAN RECENTLY. MECHANICS SAY MAYBE MASTER CYLINDER, MAYBE BELTS, MAYBE???? CAN ANYONE SAY RECALL???

SEAT BELTS: FRONT: RETRACTOR

TL CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET ASTRO. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO PULL THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT OUT OF THE RETRACTOR. THE DEALER AND WANTED $250 TO REPAIR IT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SINCE THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE IT SHOULD BE REPAIRED AT NO COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE VIN UNKNOWN.

3/18/2010 - MEDFORD, MA
WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK. VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE IN A RUN-AWAY MODE. VEHICLE WAS EVENTUALLY STOPPED THROUGH COMBINATION OF BRAKES AND TRAVELING INTO MUD. UPON STOPPING IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE FRONT BRAKES WERE FLAMING - MOST LIKELY DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

3/11/2010 - GRAY, ME
TL CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET ASTRO VAN. WHILE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET AT SPEEDS OF 65 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE WHILE THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THERE WAS AN EXTREMELY LOUD ROARING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE WITH AN INCREASE IN THE RPMS. THE VEHICLE WAS RAPIDLY APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL POSITION. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO A STOP WITH VERY LIMITED BRAKING POWER. AFTER SEVERAL MOMENTS, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESUME OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CPU (CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT) AND OPTICAL WHEEL SENSORS WERE INTERMITTENTLY FAULTY WHICH REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE SENSORS WERE CLEANED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER THAT ADVISED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE CPU. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 130,000. UPDATED 4/26/10 UPDATED 06/17/10

8/17/2009 - PALMDALE, CA
TL CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET ASTRO VAN WITH DELTA ESTEEM XLE TIRES. WITHIN A MONTH AFTER TWO TIRES WERE PURCHASED BY THE SAME MANUFACTURE. HE WAS TRAVELING AT 75 MPH THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SEVERELY SHAKE. HE PULLED OVER TO INSPECT THE TIRES BUT WAS UNABLE TO FIND THE FAILURE. HE THEN PRECEDED TO DRIVE AT 50 MPH AND TOOK THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT TO A DEALER. THE MECHANIC THERE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED SEVERE THREAD SEPARATION AND BUBBLES ON THE SIDE OF THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS THEN REPLACED. A FEW MONTHS LATER HE WAS TRAVELING AT 75MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING. BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THE REMAINING DELTA TIRE THAT WAS LOCATED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BLEW OUT. HE REPLACED THE TIRE BUT HE BELIEVES THAT THE TIRES WHERE DEFECTED AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 370,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 380,000. -

MY 2000 CHEVROLET ASTRO HAS AN ACCELERATOR THAT DOES NOT STOP ITS ACCELERATION WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS RELEASED. DEPENDING ON THE SLOPE OF THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE MAY GAIN SPEED UNTIL IT IS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. IT IS NOT A BIG EVENT ON DRY ROADS, BUT YESTERDAY WHEN IT HAPPENED IN THE SNOW, IT ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH. I HAVE HAD IT SERVICED BY DIFFERENT DEALERS 3 TIMES AND AM STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS READY TO BE PICKED UP AFTER TAKING IT IN AGAIN YESTERDAY FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. IT DOES THIS ON OCCASION, BUT VERY OFTEN AFTER BEING ON CRUISE CONTROL.

TL CONTACT OWNS 2000 CHEVROLET ASTRO VAN. THE DEFECTIVE TIRE WAS A PEP BOYS FUTURA, SCRAMBLER AP, TIRE SIZE P215/75R/15. THE DOT NUMBER IS 3DHFPANM3104. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE LEFT REAR TIRE. THE TIRE SEPERATED FROM THE VEHICLE AND LEFT RUBBER MARKS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE REAR PANEL. THERE WAS NO TRACTION WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR PRIOR WARNINGS TO THE FAILURE. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO TIRE TREAD SEPARATION. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE DOT AND ADDITIONAL TIRE INFORMATION WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 151,547.

POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

3/15/2008 - ORLANDO, FM
MY AC FAILED TO BLOW COLD AFTER I NOTED SOME OIL (NOT MOTOR OIL) UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP RECHARGED THE SYSTEM WHICH WAS APPARENTLY EMPTY INCLUDING DYE FOR WHICH I BORE THE COST ($200+). LESS THAN 12 HRS LATER THE SYSTEM NO LONGER BLEW COLD AND NO FLUID WAS NOTED UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION OF THE DYE. THE MECHANIC REMOVED THEN INTERIOR ENGINE HOOD AND FOUND THAT THE AC LINE HAD RUBBED AGAINST THE TRANSMISSION FILLER TUBE (NOW METAL ON METAL). A HOLE THE SIZE OF A DIME TO NICKEL WAS IN THE FILLER TUBE AND THE AC LINE ALSO HAD A HOLE IN IT. I ALSO HAVE ANOTHER 2K CHEVY ASTRO THAT WAS DIAG'D SEVERAL YEARS AGO FOR THE SAME HOLE IN THE AC LINE BUT IT HAD NOT WORN A HOLE IN THE TRANSMISSION FILLER TUBE. THE MECHANIC HAD INDICATED THAT THE AC LINE WAS "RUN THAT WAY FROM THE FACTORY". AT THIS POINT FOREIGN MATTER HAS FALLEN INTO THE TRANSMISSION INCLUDING THE METAL FROM THE FILLER TUBE, THE BLACK FOAM COVER ON THE AC LINE AND APPARENTLY THE FREON FROM THE DYE RECHARGE. I HAVE TO PRESUME OTHER FOREIGN MATTER HAS MADE ITS WAY IN TO FILLER TUBE AS WELL. I AM NOW ATTEMPTING THE HAVE GM COVER THE $1K REPAIR TO THE AC LINE AND TRANSMISSION FILLER TUBE.
