SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK | 8/24/2007 - WHITEFIELD, NH TL CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET ASTRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS THE VEHICLE COMES TO A ROLLING STOP, THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AND HE LOSES CONTROL OF THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURS WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS SUCH AS 5 MPH AND APPROACHING A STOP. HE STATED THAT THE FAILURE BEGAN A FEW DAYS AGO AND HAS GRADUALLY INCREASED IN SEVERITY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,225 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,175.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK: CONTROL UNIT/MODULE | 5/7/2007 - O FALLON, MO I HAVE A 2000 CHEVROLET ASTRO MINI VAN. AT APPROXIMATELY 65000 MILES, JUST AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED I STARTED HAVING TWO LIGHTS ILLUMINATE ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. ONE IS A RED BRAKE LIGHT , AND THE OTHER IS AN AMBER ABS LIGHT. I TOOK VEHICLE TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE BRAKE CONTROL MODULE WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1000.00. ONCE THE UNIT HEATS UP AND THE LIGHTS COME ON THE ABS NO LONGER WORKS, AND THE BRAKES BECOME JERKY. ALSO THE TWO LIGHTS BLIND YOU AT NIGHT WHEN YOU DRIVE. THE UNIT IS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT NEXT TO THE EXHAUST PIPE. I TOLD THEM THEY NEEDED TO FIX IT, AND THEY REFUSED, SAYING IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I TOLD THEM THAT IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW BECAUSE IT WAS PLACED NEXT TO THE EXHAUST. THE INDIVIDUAL AT THE DEALER TOLD ME THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH GM TRUCKS AND VANS. IT WAS SAFETY ISSUE AND GM REFUSED TO FIX IT.

STEERING: LINKAGES: ARM: IDLER AND ATTACHMENT | 3/26/2007 - TAYLOR , MI TL CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET ASTRO VAN. THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE WHILE COMPLETING A RIGHT TURN AT 5 MPH. THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER, LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, AND DISCOVERED THE IDLER ARM WAS DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE'S FRAME. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED , AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 63000.

SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: UPPER BALL JOINT | 1/23/2007 - KENNER, LA - THE CONTACT STATED THAT 2000 CHEVROLET ASTRO VAN HAD UPPER BALL JOINT PROBLEMS . THE UPPER BALL JOINTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE FELT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE UPPER BALL JOINTS COULD SEPARATE, AND THE DRIVER COULD LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING A CRASH. THE VEHICLEWAS NOW AT DEALERSHIP FOR REPLACEMENT BALL JOINTS AT 130,000 MILES. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPEN THE BALL JOINT WAS SAVED, AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE BALL JOINT WAS COMPLETELY DRY. THE CONTACT DOES HAS ACCESS TO THE LAST BALL JOINTS THAT WERE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO CRASHES INVOLVING THE BALL JOINTS, BUT FELT THIS COULD CAUSE A CRASH.

STEERING | 7/25/2006 - ROCHESTER, NY 2000 CHEVROLET ASTRO VAN LOST ALL STEERING CAPABILITIES, WHEELS TURNED IMMEDIATELY TO THE RIGHT AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE DRS STEERING UNIT RIPPED OUT OF THE FRAME.

STEERING: HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST: PUMP | 6/30/2006 - PACIFIC, MO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE OF MY INCIDENTS WERE JUST NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND AT A VERY MINIMAL LOW SPEED, IN WHICH I WAS JUST DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN HAD NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. I WAS SCARED TO DEATH TO NO I HAD KNOW CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE ALL OF A SUDDEN. MY CONSEQUENCES WERE NONE OTHER THAN THE SCARE OF MY LIFE AND THE REALIZATION THAT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL HAD I BEEN GOING FASTER OR ON A HIGHWAY OR ANY OTHER ROAD THAN A SUBDIVISION ROAD. THIS SITUATION OCCURRED DUE TO THE POWER STEERING PUMP,WHICH HAS A HYDRAULIC VACUUM BOOSTER FOR THE BRAKES AND ALL WORKS TOGETHER . AFTER SPEAKING TO A SERVICE CLERK AT THE CAR DEALER AND STATING THIS WAS SOMETHING I THOUGHT WAS A SAFETY CONCERN TO BE JUST DRIVING ALONG AND LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR STEERING AND BRAKES, HE AGREED. THE PROBLEMS WAS FIXED BY INSTALLING A NEW POWER STEERING PUMP AND FLUID AND CLEANING CHEMISTRY ETC. TOTALING A TOTAL OF $636.32.
