1/26/2005 - WEST LINN, OR
2000 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. TRUCK REFUSED TO START-WOULD FINALLY START, THEN STALL IMMEDIATELY. TOOK SEVERAL TRIES TO GET TRUCK RUNNING. TOOK TO DEALER-$800 TO INSTALL NEW FUEL PUMP. 2 WEEKS LATER, SAME PROBLEM. BACK TO DEALER, NEW FUEL FILTER (SECOND IN TWO MONTHS) AND FUEL INJECTION CLEANING. I RESEARCHED INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH FUEL PUMP. CONFRONTED DEALERSHIP WHO THEN ADMITTED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH FUEL PUMP--AND THAT THEY HAVE TO REPLACE 2 - 3 PER WEEK.

FUEL PUMP FAILURE - DANGEROUS HIGHWAY SPEED, STALL, ABRUPT STALL WHILE DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS - VERY LUCKY TO COAST TO CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC ONLY ENTRANCE ZONE IN AREA WITHOUT SHOULDERS. ALMOST REARENDED DURING STALL OUT. DEALER STATES THAT FUEL PUMP IS DEFECTIVE AND REQUIRES REPLACEMENT FOR $700+ CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER DOES NOT SHOW INDICATION THAT THIS PROBLEM IS SIGNIFICANT. WEB SEARCH SHOWS THAT NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. CAR WEBSITES SUCH AS MSN SHOW FUEL PUMP AS POSSIBLE FUTURE REPAIR REQUIREMENT IN THEIR EVALUATION. EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 100,000 AND CAR AT 107,000 MILES. NO CONSIDERATION GIVEN. DEALER AUTHORIZED TO MAKE REPAIR AT MY EXPENSE.

EXPECT THIS IS CAUSED BY THE MELTED ELECTRICAL TERMINALS AT PUMP MODULE. POSSIBLY RELATED TO SENSOR REPLACEMENT. DOES NOT LEAK ON LEVEL AFTER DRIVING 10 MILES AFTER FILLUP, BUT WILL LEAK IF POINTED DOWN HILL - VERY NOTICEABLE FUEL LEAK. CERTAINLY A FIRE HAZARD. HAVE TALKED WITH CHEVROLET 1-800-222-1020. THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE "ENGINEERING ANALYSIS" BUT WILL NOT AUTHORIZE FOOTING THE BILL FOR REPAIRS.

10/21/2004 - WASHINGTON CROSSING, PA
THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE. THE WIRING ON THE FUEL PUMP MODULE OFTEN MELTED WHEN THE FUEL TANK WAS ROUTINELY RUN BELOW A QUARTER TANK OF GASOLINE. THIS CAUSED A SHORT AND A FUSE TO BLOW IN THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS ALSO AN IMMEDIATE LOST OF ALL POWER. WHICH CAUSES A DANGEROUS POSITION FOR THE DRIVER. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED 4 TIMES.
