Problem with Air Bags

SWERVED TO AVOID COLLISION AND THE BRAKES LOCKED CAUSING CAR TO LOSE CONTROL ON THE WET ROAD. THE VAN HIT A TREE, FLIPPED ON ITS SIDE AND SMASHED INTO A LIGHT POLE. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS FRONT END DAMAGE. THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE CRASH. ALSO NOTICED THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED ACTING UP OVER THE PRIOR WEEKS (NOT MOVING UNTIL AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING.)

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT ANY IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE AND THE SEAT BELTS LOCKED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO FAULTY WIRING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 50,000.

THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THE PROBLEM HAD TO BE LEGALLY HANDLED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 107,000.

TL CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 55-60 MPH, THE FRONT AIR BAG SUDDENLY DEPLOYED DAMAGING THE DRIVER SEAT. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A MINOR INJURY IN MARCH 2009, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DEALER CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS WHICH WOULD INCLUDE NEW WIRING AND A DRIVER SEAT REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 FORD WINDSTAR LIMITED ON SMOOTH ROADWAY AT ABOUT 50 MPH WHEN THE DRIVERSIDE SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. NO INJURIES EXCEPT FOR A RUG BURN ON MY LEFT SHOULDER. DEALER ADVISED THAT THE COMPUTER SHOWED A SIDE IMPACT COLLISION BUT THERE WAS NO COLLISION. I WAS TOLD THE COST IS $1500 FOR REPAIR OUT OF MY POCKET. COME ON FORD.

MY HUSBAND WAS PROCEEDING IN A SOUTHBOUND DIRECTION IN OUR 2003 FORD WINDSTAR WHEN HE STRUCK A VEHICLE (GMC TRUCK) THAT FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN. THAT VEHICLE WAS MOVING WESTBOUND. THE IMPACT FIRST OCCURRED WITH THE WINDSTAR STRIKING THE TRUCK ON THE PASSENGER FRONT FENDER, WHICH THEN RESULTED IN THE WINDSTAR THEN STRIKING A CURB, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY THE WINDSTAR STRIKING A TELEPHONE POLE. THESE IMPACTS WERE ALL MADE FROM THE FRONT, HOWEVER NO AIRBAG DEPLOYED ON THE WINDSTAR.

AS OF NOVEMBER 26, 2007, THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A BACK INJURY AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SUFFERED BRUISES TO HER SHOULDER AND CHEST. WHILE DRIVING ON SMOOTH HIGHWAY AT 35 MPH MAX, THE RIGHT SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND THE BUTTON ON THE DOOR POST THAT OPERATES THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR SHOT OUT. THE VEHICLE HAD COLLIDED WITH NOTHING; NOBODY IN THE VEHICLE FELT A BUMP. THERE WAS NO VISIBLE EVIDENCE OF COLLISION FOUND BY THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER, THE FORD REPAIR FACILITY, OR BY AN EXPERT THIRD PARTY. ONLY THE SHOP'S COMPUTER SHOWED THE REASON FOR DEPLOYMENT AS "COLLISION." SO THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER LISTED "COLLISION-+¥ AS THE CAUSE IN HIS REPORT. RESULT: WE PAY THE DEDUCTIBLE, OUR INSURANCE RATE INCREASES, AND OUR DRIVING PROFILE NOW INCLUDES AN ACCIDENT THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. THERE WAS NO COLLISION OR ACCIDENT. TWO PASSENGERS WERE VISIBLY BRUISED, ONE REQUIRING MEDICAL ATTENTION AS SHE WAS HIT BY THE ABOVE MENTIONED BUTTON. REPAIR, WHICH WILL COST APPROX $800, HAS NOT BEEN DONE PENDING OUR TRYING TO SETTLE THE CAUSE AND INSURANCE ISSUES. THE REPAIR FACILITY HAS THE PARTS ON HAND AND A CHECK FROM THE INSURER.

SEVEN DAYS LATER FORD RECALLED 257,119 WINDSTAR MINIVANS BECAUSE THE LATCHES THAT CONNECT THE REAR SEATS TO THE FLOOR COULD RELEASE IN AN ACCIDENT......FORD WINDSTAR IS A VERY UNSAFE CAR, SPECIALLY IF YOU USE IT WITH CHILDREN!!
