Problem with Seat Belts
Jun 17, 2014 - Punta Gorda, FL - Seat Belts
VEHICLE DASHBOARD "AIR BAG" LIGHT CAME ON! TOOK TO LINCOLN DEALER WHO STATED IT LOOKED LIKED THE PASSENGER SEAT PRETENSIONER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. STATED THAT MOST LIKELY THE DRIVER SIDE WOULD ALSO ULTIMATELY NEED REPLACEMENT AS WELL, AS IT IS A CONTINUAL AND ON-GOING PROBLEM! COST TO REPAIR ONE SIDE APPROX. $750.00 AFTER DISCOUNT. THIS CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED BY LINCOLN, NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT, AND ONLY HAS 35,500 MILES ON IT. DEALER ALSO STATED, THAT IT IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE AND IF NOT FIXED, AIR BAGS MIGHT NOT DEPLOY IF IN AN ACCIDENT. ALTHO, I HAVE AN AFTER MARKET SERVICE WARRANTY - OEM BUMPER TO BUMPER CONTRACT, THEY REFUSE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, STATING THAT "SAFETY ITEMS" ARE NOT COVERED? WITH FORD MOTORS KNOWING OF THE ON-GOING SAFETY PROBLEMS THIS ITEM SHOULD BE ON RECALL DUE TO OVERALL SAFETY CONCERNS WITH CARS ON THE ROAD, WHEREAS, CUSTOMERS CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX THEM, OR FAIL TO, AND LIVES ARE BEING LOST AS A RESULT!

DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2005 LINCOLN TOWN CAR. SHE STATES THAT THE WAY THE FRONT SEAT BELT BUCKLE IS LOCATED IN THE SEAT IT CAUSES HER RIGHT LEG TO GO NUMB. IN THE OTHER VEHICLES THAT SHE OWNED THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE WAS BESIDE THE SEAT NOT IN IT. SHE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THIS IS JUST THE WAY THE VEHICLES WERE MADE. THEY ALSO INDICATED THAT THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE WAS PUT IN THE SEAT BECAUSE OF THE SIDE AIR BAG. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY FACTORS AND REGULATIONS FOR THE VEHICLE.
