SERVICE BRAKES

11/20/2014 - ORANGE, CA
I WAS APPROACHING A FOUR WAY STOP AT THE APPROPRIATE SPEED LIMIT OF 35MPH BEFORE THE IMPACT. AS I WAS GETTING CLOSER, I WENT AHEAD AND DECELERATED. I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES IN THE PAST. AS I GOT CLOSER TO THE STOP SIGN, IN A BLINK OF AN EYE, I WAS BEING DRAGGED BY A LARGE CHEVY HEAVY DUTY TRUCK ACROSS THE INTERSECTION. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EITHER. THE IMPACT COMPLETELY DISMANTLED MY FRONT END. AFTER THE PARAMEDICS AND FIRE FIGHTERS ARRIVE, I WAS RUSHED TO THE ER FOR REPORTED BACK AND NECK INJURIES. I WAS LOOKED OVER AND WAS DISCHARGED BARELY BEING ABLE TO WALK. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP QUITE A DISTANCE AWAY FROM MY HOME. MY INSURANCE SAID THE SHOP COULD BE TRUSTED. I ASKED OVER 20 PEOPLE AND EACH PERSON SAID THAT THE DAMAGE FROM THIS CAR HAS TO RESULT IN BEING TOTALED. THE MECHANIC SAID OTHERWISE. HE BEGAN WORKING ON THE CAR WITHOUT MY CONSENT AND DEMANDED; THREATENED MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO PAY HIM $4,000 FOR A FEW DAYS OF WORK AND $7,000 LATER ON. THIS WAS AFTER I HAD ALREADY SPOKEN WITH MY INSURANCE TO FILE THIS CAR AS BEING TOTALED. THE MECHANIC THREATENED FOR MONEY SAYING HE HAD ALREADY STARTED ON THE CAR WHEN HE NEVER EVEN TOUCHED IT AFTER 3 WEEKS. I USED TO TRUST TOYOTA VEHICLES, BUT AFTER THIS ACCIDENT I'M NEVER BUYING ANOTHER TOYOTA AGAIN. THE EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM SAID IT WAS A MIRACLE THAT I WAS ALIVE. MY COMPLAINT IS THE AIRBAGS AND BRAKES FAILED TO DO THEIR JOB.

TL-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT WITH BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE UN-INTENDEDLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PRESSING ON BRAKES, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED MORE. THE CONTACT PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND IT ACCELERATED MORE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE PUT IN NEUTRAL AND TURNED OFF FOR THE ACCELERATION TO STOP. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE RECREATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35000. MC

I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 20-25 MPH WHEN I FELT THE STERRING WHEEL GET OUT OF CONTROL I TRIED TO STEER IT IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BUT IT JUST STEERED TO THE RIGHT AND AT THE MOMENT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I COULDNT CONTROL THE CAR CAUSING ME TO RUN INTO A SIDE WALK AND ALMOST HITTING A POLE ALSO THE ACCIDENT CAUSED MY WHOLE WHEEL AND SUSPENSION TO COMPLETELY BREAK ALSO THE CV DRIVE SHAFT CAME OFF NO ONE WAS HURT BUT I AM REALLY CONCERNED THAT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY ROAD THERE COULD HAVE BEEN CASUALTIES AND I WANT A RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA AND HELP BECAUSE THIS IS VERY UNFORTUNATE.

I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW TOYOTA COROLLA 2011 RIGHT OFF THE LOT AND THE CALIPER BEGAN SEIZING. THE CAR WOULD THRUST TO THE LEFT WHILE BRAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS. THE CALIPER WAS REPLACED BY TOYOTA UNDER WARRANTY, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM HAS BEGAN REOCCURRING INTERMITTENTLY NOW AT 60,000 MILES.

IM WRITING TO LET NOTICE OF A POSSIBLE DEFECT IN MY CAR. AT ABOUT 33000 MILES MY CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING STARTED TO MAKE NOISE. DEALER REPLACED IT. AT ABOUT 44000 MILES IT BEGAN TO MAKE SAME NOISE. DEALER REPLACED CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING AND PRESSURE PLATE. CONSIDERING IT FAILED TWICE, I BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE RELEASE BEARINGS ON THIS VEHICLE. I SEARCHED FOR COMPLAINTS ON GOOGLE AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE ALSO REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM. I ALSO BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE RELEASE BEARING COULD SEIZED UP AND FAILURE COULD BE DANGEROUS. TRANSMISSION MIGHT GET STUCK IN ONE GEAR. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND IM WRITING ONLY TO INFORM OF A POTENTIAL FAULTY DESIGN IN A PART, CONSIDERING ALL THE REPORTED PROBLEMS ON FORUMS ON GOOGLE SEARCH ENGINE, PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, AND IT COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE.
