POWER TRAIN

9/18/2014 - GENOA, OH
WHILE DRIVING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS IN MARYLAND,I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE ENTIRE CAR SHUDDERED. THE ROTORS WERE APPARENTLY WARPED AND THE CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP. THE MORE THE BRAKE TEMPERATURE INCREASED THE MORE DIFFICULT IT BECAME TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. MOST OF THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR IS HIGHWAY OR COUNTRY ROADS, AS I LIVE IN A SUBURBAN AREA. THE BRAKES STILL ACT UP IN FLAT AREAS JUST NOT AS BAD AS THEY DID IN THE MOUNTAINS. I HAVE A SIX SPEED 2.4L, 4 CYLINDER IN THE AVENGER. BEFORE AND AFTER HAVING THE TRANSMISSION FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD DOWNSHIFT HARD BETWEEN 3RD AND 2ND GEAR AND 2ND AND 1ST GEAR. WHEN I BACKED OUT AND PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, IF YOU DIDN'T WAIT FOR ABOUT THREE SECONDS PRIOR TO ACCELERATING THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP THEN BANG INTO GEAR A TAKE OFF. THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT TO LOCK INTO DRIVE BEFORE TAKING OFF. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT WITH 36,000 MILES ON IT.

I NOTICED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THIS DATE GOING DOWN THE HWY AND THE CAR ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. I WAS AT A DEAD STOP AND GO ON THE HWY RUSH OUR I LET OFF THE BRAKE TO EASE ON UP AND MY CAR WENT UNDER INTO A TRUCK DOING OVER $7800.00 IN DAMAGES NO AIRBAGS NONE DEPLOYED I JUST GOT MY CAR FROM THE SHOP ON 8/30. I GOT IN THE CAR STARTED IT AND BACKED UP PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND IT JOLTED INTO DRIVE NO FOOT ON THE GAS PEDDLE I HAD TO HIT MY BRAKES AGAIN THEN I PROCEEDED HOME. STILL NOTICED THIS A COUPLE MORE TIMES. I DIDN'T THINK ABOUT IT AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT I WAS TAKEN STRAIGHT OUT BY EMS WITH A NECKBRACE. I'VE SIT HERE CONFUSED FOR 2 MONTHS KNOWING HOW DID THIS HAPPEN KNOWING IT WAS A BRAKE EASE OFF AND BRAKE AGAIN TRAFFIC AND THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE DONE TO THE CAR. MY 14 YR OLD DAUGHTER HAD TO CONVINCE MY MOM I WAS NOT SPEEDING BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE. I WILL CALL THE SHOP AGAIN ON MON AM BUT ALSO DODGE OR CHRYSLER RE: THIS. I HAD TO PAY OUT OVER $4K IN CAR RENTAL (NO I DIDN'T KNOW I DID NOT HAVE THAT COVERAGE.) I'M NOW PISSED OFF AND CONFUSED AT DID THIS CAUSE THE COLLISION? WHILE DRIVING ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY DRIVING IN THE LEFT LANE DOING 60 MILES THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY TURNED OFF CREATING THE FOLLOWING TO STOP WORKING. NO BRAKES, GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT WORK, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, UNABLE TO TURN ON HAZARD LIGHTS. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT ENOUGH TO MOVE INTO THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND TO THE SIDE OF A VERY BUSY FREEWAY, (VERY SCARY ) THE CHP CAME AND HAD ME WAIT FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES THE CHP OFFICER THEN GOT INTO THE VEHICLE RESTARTED THE CAR, PUT IN GEAR TO MAKE SURE THE BRAKE WOULD HOLD OUT AND THEN ESCORTED ME OFF THE FREEWAY AT THE SPEED OF 30 MILES. THEN HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS.

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 DODGE AVENGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS FLASHED INTERMITTENTLY DURING THE FAILURE. ADDITIONALLY, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,500.
