POWER TRAIN

2/17/2017 - CHILDERSBURG, AL
TRANSMISSION LEAD FRAME. I WOULD BE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY TRUCK WOULD DOWNSHIFT TO FIRST GEAR AND THEN I WOULD HAVE TO CUT THE TRUCK OFF TO RESET IT TO GO AGAIN. SOMETIMES THAT WOULD REMEDY THE PROBLEM BUT SOMETIMES I WOULD JUST GO A FEW MILES AND IT WOULD START ACTING UP AGAIN.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

2/8/2017 - PAHOA, HI
TRUCK GOES INTO LIMP MODE WHILE DRIVING AND DISPLAYS A WRENCH ON THE SCREEN. HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT FULL SPEED AND ONCE WHILE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. OUR LOCAL FORD SAYS THEY CANNOT SEE US FOR 3 MORE WEEKS BECAUSE THEY ARE SO BUSY. A LOCAL MECHANIC TELLS US IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY. FROM WHAT I READ THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. I'M TRULY SCARED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE JUST ALL THE SUDDEN LOSES ALL ACCELERATION AND STOPS. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT MOVING IS TO PUT IT IN PARK, TURN IT OFF AND RE-START. WHEN ON A HIGHWAY GOING 60 MILES AN HOUR THIS IS VERY UNSAFE!

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS AND MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN, THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED BY THE SYSTEM, THE VEHICLE'S SPEED WAS SEVERELY REDUCED AND ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL CRASHES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE A RECORDING DEVICE WAS ATTACHED, INDICATING THAT THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN, IN FACT, HE DID NOT. THE BRAKES AND SEVERAL PARTS WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

2/2/2017 - ISSAQUAH, WA
RECEIVED A "SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC" WARNING ON THE DASH DISPLAY, FOLLOWED BY ADVANCETRAC WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATION. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A FAULT WITH THE STEERING GEAR, AND THE ENTIRE STEERING BOX HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $1850. THE DEALER SAID IF IT HAD FAILED COMPLETELY, IT WOULD HAVE LIKELY RESULTED IN LOSS OF STEERING. CHECKING ONLINE, IT SEEMS FORD IS RECALLING OLDER VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT NOT TRUCKS THIS NEW, AND IS INSTEAD MAKING CUSTOMERS PAY FOR WHAT IS CLEARLY A DEFECT.
