SUSPENSION

5/20/2016 - BLOOMINGTON, IN
OUR VEHICLE IS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE PRODUCTION WINDOW THAT APPLIES TO HYUNDAI RECALL 133 REGARDING FRACTURED COIL SPRINGS. OUR RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE, RESULTING IN THE PUNCTURING OF THE TIRE. BOTH US AND THE PREVIOUS OWNER OF THE VEHICLE LIVE AND HAVE USED THE VEHICLE IN THE DEFINED SNOW/SALT REGION. THE VEHICLE IMPACTED A POTHOLE. IMMEDIATE INSPECTION SHOWED NO DAMAGE TO TIRE OR WHEEL. DRIVER CONTINUED ON TO WORK, PARKED, AND AT THE END OF THE WORKDAY BEGAN TO DRIVE HOME. AFTER TURNING A CORNER, AN AUDIBLE "GRINDING" WAS NOTED, AND DRIVER STOPPED, LOOKING UNDER THE VEHICLE FOR LODGED DEBRIS. SECOND MOTORIST STOPPED TO ASSIST, AND AN ATTEMPT TO MOVE THE VEHICLE WAS MADE, AT WHICH POINT IT WAS NOTED THAT THE SUSPENSION WAS "OFF", AND THEY BELIEVED A PORTION OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS RESTING ON THE TIRE. DRIVER PROCEEDED TO ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE ROADWAY, AND THE TURNING OF THE VEHICLE RESULTED IN THE FRACTURED COIL SPRING COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE, LACERATING IT. RECALL 133 COVERS MODELS MANUFACTURED THROUGH MARCH 31, 2011. OUR MANUFACTURE DATE IS JUNE 20, 2011.

5/16/2016 - SAN JUAN BATISTA, CA
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURED SHOULDER THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT BODY SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V871000 (ELECTRICAL STABILITY CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,294.

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER, BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,547.

BOTH ORIGINAL COIL SPRINGS OF THIS VEHICLE HAVE SNAPPED DUE TO CORROSION AND COLD WEATHER CLIMATE WITHIN A YEAR OF THE OTHER. HYUNDAI WILL NOT INCLUDE IN THE RECALL BECAUSE IT IS 2012 VEHICLE. THE ISSUE IS THE SAME AS THE 2011 COIL SPRING FAILURES. THIS RECALL NEEDS EXTENDED TO THE 2012 VEHICLES AS WELL.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN LOCATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.

OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS MY ELANTRA HAS STALLED IMMEDIATELY UPON STARTING. IT DOESNT MATTER IF THE ENGINE IS HOT OR COLD. JUST FILLED UP WITH GAS OR ANYWHERE IN BETWEEN. THE PROBLEM IS VERY INTERMITTENT. USUALLY IT WOULD THEN START ON THE 2ND OR 3RD TRY BUT HAS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS LEFT ME STRANDED REQUIRING A TOW. THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT UNLESS THEY CAN REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. IVE HAD THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED AND ALL NEW SPARK PLUGS, BUT ITS STILL ACTING UP. I DONT WANT TO KEEP THROWING MONEY AT IT GUESSING WHAT COULD BE WRONG. THIS BEGAN AROUND 10,000 MILES AND IT NOW IS APPROACHING 80,000. ID LIKE FOR HYUNDAI TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

4/11/2016 - LENOIR CITY, TN
RE: NHTSA 15V871000 BASED ON THE HYUNDAI SAFETY RECALL, I WENT TO TWO DEALERSHIPS AND STILL HAVE A GLOWING ESC DASH LIGHT AND AN UNRESOLVED SAFETY PROBLEM. EACH DID A FREE "CALIBRATION" OF A "STEERING" SENSOR AND TOLD ME A "YAW" SENSOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE FOR OVER $1200. THE NHTSA REMEDY SAID "DEALERS WILL VERIFY THE PROPER OPERATION OF THE ESC SENSORS .... FREE OF CHARGE". PLEASE NOTE "SENSORS" IS PLURAL. SURELY IT WAS NOT THE NHTSA'S INTENTION TO HAVE HYUNDAI OPERATE A "BAIT AND SWITCH" BY DOING A FREE "CALIBRATION" ON ONE SENSOR AND CHARGING OVER $1200 TO REPLACE THE OTHER. MY FAMILY AND I ARE NOW DRIVING A CAR WITH A SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS KNOWN TO THE NHTSA AND HYUNDAI BUT IS APPARENTLY NOT COVERED BY A SAFETY RECALL - BASED ON HYUNDAI'S INTERPRETATION OF THE EXISTING RECALL! YOUR HELP IS NEEDED - THANK YOU.

TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHEN MAKING A TURN AND DRIVING OVER A CURB, THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED VIOLENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED AND FRACTURED THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR WHIPLASH, NECK PAINS, HEADACHES, AND BRUISING TO THE RIGHT ARM THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL TREATMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED; HOWEVER, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
