10/27/2014 - MURRIETA, CA
DURING LOW SPEED DRIVING (APPROXIMATELY 30-40 MPH) AND SQUEAKING NOISE WAS EMIITTING FROM THE RIGHT REAR TIRE. PRIOR TO THIS, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT, ANTI LOCK BRAKE WARNING LIGHT, ANTI SKID WARNING LIGHT, ALL ILLUMINATED. WHEN THE CAR WAS DIAGNOSED AT DCH HONDA, TEMECULA IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEARING WAS BROKEN / FALLING APART. IT WAS STATED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT BE SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THE BEARING WAS REPLACED AND THAT THIS WAS COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS NOTIFICATION (TECHNICAL BULLETINS, RECALLS) ON THIS ISSUE. DRIVERS BEWARE. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT "PLAY" IN THE REAR WHEEL WHILE ATTACHED TO THE HUB. IF THE BEARING CAME COMPLETELY UNDONE, THE WHEEL COULD COME OFF WHILE DRIVING.

I CONTACTED POHANKANHONDA IN SALISBURY MARYLAND ABOUT THE DANGER OF THE AIR BAG EXPLODING AND CAUSEING INJURY TO ME OR MY FAMILY. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL BUT IT WAS REGIONAL AND THIS AREA AND MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THEY REFEREDED ME TO HONDA OF NORTH AMERICA AND I WAS TOLD THAT IF I WANTED TO CHECK OUT MY AIRBAG I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE INSPECTION. I DISAGREE BECAUSE THIS REGION BECOMES HOT AND THE CONDITIONS CAN BE AS HUMIT AS FLORIDA OR OTHER SOUTHERN STATES. IT DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. I DO NOT THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE INSPECTION OR PUT MY FAMILY IN DANGER

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE

10/24/2014 - ELVERSON, PA
WHILE USING THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL (ACC) I WAS TRAVELING AT 75 MPH. THIS SYSTEM IS SUPPOSE TO REDUCE YOUR SPEED WHEN IT SEES ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF YOU AND THEN BRING YOU BACK UP TO SPEED WHEN THE OBSTACLE IS NO LONGER PRESENT. I WAS ON A 4 LANE LIMITED ACCESS HIGHWAY (2 LANES EACH DIRECTION). I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE. THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME BUT THERE WAS AN 18 WHEEL TRUCK ABOUT 150 FEET IN FRONT OF ME IN THE RIGHT LANE. WE WERE APPROACHING A LEFT CURVE AND ON A SLIGHT INCLINE TO THE CURVE. AS WE ENTERED THE CURVE THE ACC SONAR DETECTOR SAW THE 18 WHEELER IN THE OTHER LANE AND DISENGAGED THE ACC AND APPLIED THE BRAKES, WITHOUT WARNING. THIS BROUGHT MY SPEED DOWN QUICKLY FROM 75. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS OCCURRED IN SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES. THE REAL DANGER HERE IS THAT THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THE CAR TO BRAKE; THE SONAR SAW AN OBSTACLE IN A DIFFERENT LANE; HAD ANOTHER VEHICLE BEEN FOLLOWING ME THE SURELY WOULD HAVE BEEN A CRASH. I AM A FORMER CRASH INVESTIGATOR. AS SUCH, I CAN TELL YOU THIS SITUATION WILL BE PROBLEMATIC. FORTUNATELY, THE CAR GIVES YOU THE OPTION OF USING THE ACC OR TRADITIONAL CRUISE CONTROL - I HAVE DISABLED THE ACC FOR SAFETY CONCERNS.

ON OCTOBER 9 2013 I HAD GOTTEN UP TO GO TO WORK, AS I GOT UP TO GO TO WORK THAT MORNING I NOTICED THAT THE SEAT. DID NOT MOVE UP WARD. I STARTED TO DRIVE TO WORK BUT I WAS UNCONFORTABLE IN MY SEATING POSITION. SO AS I WENT TO READJUST THE SEAT THE WHO SEAT SLAMMED TO THE FLOOR OF THE CAR. AND I FELT LIKE A LOWER WHIPLASH TO MY LOWER BACK AND SPINE. THE SEAT FELL BACK AS I WAS DRIVING AND ADJUSTING THE SEAT I ALSO TURNED MY STEERING WHEEL ALMOST INTO THE ON COMING TRAFFIC AND PERSON NEXT TO ME. I REGAINED CONTROL OF MY CAR BUT NOW I WAS SITTING ON THE LOWEST LEVEL OF THE SEATS POSITION. I PULLED OVER BECAUSE MY LOWER BACK WAS HURTING AND LOOKED AT THE SEAT. NOTHING HAD BEEN TAMPERED OR TOUCHED. I THEN MANUALLY PUT THE SEAT BACK INTO ITS UPPER POSITON SINCE IT NOW NO LONGER COULD ADJUST WITH THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL. FORWARD, AND BACK AND DOWN YOU COULD STILL MOVE BUT UPWARD NO MORE. AGAIN GOT BACK IN MY CAR ONLY NOW TO JUST MOVE FORWARD A FEW MPH THE SEAT AGAIN FELL BACK DUE TO THE FORWARD MOTION OF THE CAR AND GRAVITY. I TOOK THIS TO THE HONDA BECAUSE IT IS A SERIOUS ISSUE TO SHOCKLEY HONDA ONLY FOR THEM TO SAY THAT IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WANTED TO CHARGE ME $120 TO JUST LOOK AT THE ISSUE. AND THEN TO TELL ME IT WILL TAKE $1200 TO FIX IT! SO SAFETY IS NOT A CONCERN ONLY PROFIT. I SINCE HAVE TO PUT A BOX UNDER THE SEAT TO KEEP IT FROM SLIDING BACK AND FROM HURTING MY BACK FURTHER MORE. BUT TIME TO TIME THE BOX MOVED AND THE SEAT CONTINUES TO SLIDE BACK AND FURTHER INJURY TO MY BACK OR IF NOT ADDRESS COULD CAUSE FUTHER INJURY TO OTHERS DUE TO LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE CAR. I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE THIS CAR BUT I HAVE TO DRIVE BECAUSE IT IS STILL A CAR TO GET ME TO WORK.

THE POWER STEERING FAILED LIGHT ALUMINATED AND WASN'T ABLE TO STEER. WAS ABLE TO PARK AND RESTART CAR AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERS THEY REPLACED THE STEERING RACK. CAR WAS AT DEALERS FOR 6 DAYS.

POWER TRAIN

10/16/2014 - AUSTIN, TX
AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED FOR A WHILE THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY. IT HAPPENS IN BOTH REVERSE AND DRIVE. WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR THE ENGINE REVS REALLY HIGH (4,000 TO 5,000 RPM) BUT THE CAR BARELY MOVES AT ALL. THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY AFTER ABOUT 20 - 30 SECONDS EVEN AFTER SHIFTING GEARS FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. THE PROBLEM SEEMS PRETTY RANDOM (I.E. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME), BUT I HAVE FIGURED OUT A WAY TO MAKE IT HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY. IF THE CAR IS PARKED ON AN ANGLE SUCH AS THE DRIVER SIDE LOWER THAN THE PASSENGER SIDE SUCH AS IN SLOPED PARKING LOT, OR THE FRONT HIGHER THAN THE BACK ON AN INCLINE LIKE MY DRIVEWAY. I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS SAFETY RELATED BECAUSE WITH THE ENGINE AT A VERY HIGH RPM IF THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY "KICKS IN" IT WOULD CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION - IMAGE A CAR UNEXPECTEDLY LUNGING FORWARD OR IN REVERSE OUT OF CONTROL.
