VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

8/25/2013 - ARENA, WI
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, AND THE ENGINE STOPPED. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND TURNED OFF THE KEY TO RESET THE ALARM CODE. THE CAR STARTED AND DROVE NORMALLY FOR ABOUT 2 MILES, THEN THE ENGINE STOPPED AGAIN. WITHIN 5 MILES THE CAR WOULD BARELY RUN AT ALL, THE ENGINE WAS MIS-FIRING AND CLUNKING ALONG AT 2 MPH AND STALLING EVERY FEW FEET. I HAD NO PREVIOUS INDICATIONS OF A PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE, AND THEN WITHIN 5 MILES IT WAS COMPLETELY UN-DRIVABLE. THE PROBLEM WAS FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE BODY, COST $525 TO REPAIR. THERE ARE MANY REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET.

8/25/2013 - ARENA, WI
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, AND THE ENGINE STOPPED. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND TURNED OFF THE KEY TO RESET THE ALARM CODE. WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK WHEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING MY CAR STARTED JERKING AND RUNNING REALLY ROUGH. THEN IT JUST WOULD NOT GO ANY FURTHER AS I KEPT TRYING TO GIVE IT THE GAS. LUCKILY I ARRIVED AT WORK. THINKING I HAD RECEIVED SOME BAD GAS AND IT WOULD PASS, BUT IT JUST KEPT GETTING WORSE. NOW I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE IT FOR FEAR OF IT STOPPING AND I WOULD BE STRANDED.

MY 18 YEAR OLD SON WAS GETTING READY TO GET ON THE FREEWAY AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SLOWED TO 30 MPH. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AT OUR EXPENSE. THIS ISSUE IS SO COMMON THAT FORD IS HAVING A HARD TIME PRODUCING ENOUGH THROTTLE BODIES. THE PART IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND THIS PARTICULAR DEALER HAD A CAR IN THE SHOP THAT HAD WAITED 1 MONTH FOR THIS PART. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. ONE MINUTE LATER AND MY SON WOULD HAVE BEEN DOING 65MPH ON THE FREEWAY. IMAGINE IF HE WAS IN TRAFFIC AND SUDDENLY COULD NOT TRAVEL FASTER THAN 30 MPH. IN ADDITION, SINCE THIS EVENT THE FORD SYNC AND BLUETOOTH FEATURES NO LONGER WORK.

MY FIANCE WAS DRIVING ON I-26 TO WORK 40 MILES AWAY. THE CAR STARTED JERKING AND STALLING AND LOSING POWER A SEMI BLEW THE HORN AT HER AND SWERVED AROUND HER. SHE PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CUT THE CAR OFF. WHEN SHE STARTED IT BACK UP AND RAN FOR A FEW MORE MILES AT A REDUCED SPEED BUT IT KEPT DOING THE SAME THING. I TOOK IT TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT THEY WERE COMMON FOR THIS. ITS SO COMMON THAT THROTTLE BODIES ARE ON BACKORDER. THE ONLY PLACE YOU CAN GET THEM IS A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR AROUND $450 INSTALLED. I INVESTIGATED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND OUT THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM BUT FORD REFUSES TO DO A RECALL. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE; FOR SOMEONE TO DIE BEFORE THEY DO ONE. IF THAT SEMI HAD NOT BEEN WATCHING, MY FIANCE MAY HAVE BEEN THE ONE.

8/24/2013 - FORT MITCHELL, KY
MY VEHICLE IS A 2010 FORD FUSION SE V6. I WAS TRAVELING AT 80 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR DECIDED IT NO LONGER WISHED TO ACCELERATE. MY SPEED IMMEDIATELY AND DRASTICALLY SLOWED DESPITE KEEPING MY FOOT TO THE FLOOR ON THE ACCELERATOR. BECAUSE I DID NOT TOUCH MY BRAKES, THERE WAS NO WARNING OF MY RAPID DECELERATION TO THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME BY WAY OF BRAKE LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY BEHIND ME MISSED HITTING ME BY ABOUT 2 INCHES AND THE VEHICLES BEHIND THAT HAD TO SWERVE - IN VERY HEAVY TRAFFIC - TO AVOID HITTING BOTH OF US. IT WAS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I QUICKLY THREW ON MY HAZARDS AND PULLED OVER ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. WITH MY FOOT COMPLETELY ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED, THE CAR SHOOK, SPUTTERED, AND SEEMED TO TRY TO LITERALLY JERK FORWARD ENTIRELY BY ITSELF. THE ONLY WARNING LIGHT THAT CAME ON WAS THE LITTLE WRENCH (THROTTLE CONTROL/POWERTRAIN/STABILITY). I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND REMOVED THE KEYS. I SAT THERE FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES, THEN I STARTED UP THE CAR, SAW NO WARNING LIGHTS, AND CONTINUED DRIVING TO MY DESTINATION WITHOUT A SINGLE ISSUE. IT WAS A TRULY TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE. IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE BUT BOTH TIMES WERE AT LOW SPEEDS WITH NO OTHER CARS AROUND. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP THEN AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT.
