ACCELERATOR STUCK WHILE MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY, VEHICLE WAS GOING 85 MPH WHEN I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND USED BRAKES TO STOP. THE ENGINE CONTINUED "RACING" AFTER STOPPING AND STOPPED ONLY AFTER I SHUT OFF THE IGNITION. NOW ALSO HAPPENS WHEN ACCELERATING ON CITY STREETS. EXTREME DANGER IF SOMEONE DRIVING HAS THIS HAPPEN AND PANICS.

THERE'S BEEN ISSUES WITH THE FUEL PUMP AND PRESSURE GAUGE. WE'VE ALREADY HAD THIS PROBLEM REPAIRED 4 TIMES AND STILL SUSPECT THERE'S A LEAK SOMEWHERE. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC THE REASON WAS MY FUEL SENSOR IS NOT WORKING. MY GAS GAUGE DOES NOT TELL ME HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE CAR. THE REPAIR WOULD BE COSTLY AND REQUIRES THE REMOVAL OF THE GAS TANK. DUE TO THIS DEFECT, MY CAR WILL NOT PASS MD EMISSIONS TESTING. I HAD JUST GOTTEN ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE CAR STARTED AND CONTINUED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. I HAD THE WIPERS GOING; CRUISE WAS NOT TURNED ON OR SET, THERE WAS NOTHING OBSTRUCTING BRAKE OR ACCELERATOR PETALS. I TURNED THE LIGHTS TO AUTO THEN DOWN TO RUNNING LIGHTS THEN TO THE ON POSITION. JUST AT THAT MOMENT WHEN I PUT THE LIGHTS IN THE ON POSITION IS WHEN IT TOOK OVER THE ACCELERATOR. I TRIED STEPPING ON THE BREAK AND IT DID NOTHING AS THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I MADE IT TO THE OFF RAMP TO GET OFF THE INTERSTATE IMMEDIATELY. I TRIED TURNING CRUISE ON THEN OFF AND DOWN SHIFTING. THEN I PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND IT STOPPED ACCELERATING BUT I STILL COULD NOT BRAKE. I STARTED TO PUSH ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND WE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN UNTIL WE COASTED INTO A GAS STATION AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAS TOWED TO A GARAGE. I CALLED HYUNDAI SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME IF NOTHING IS FOUND OR IT CAN'T BE FIXED THAT I SHOULD CONTACT CONSUMER AFFAIRS. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OVER 50 COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME THING. APPARENTLY THIS HAS TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT THE THROTTLE CONTROL IS DRIVEN BY THE COMPUTER/ELECTRIC. BECAUSE OF THIS SOMETHING LIKE A POWER SURGE HAPPENS THAT CAUSES THE ACCELERATION AND THE BRAKES TO NOT WORK. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ME WITH MORE TRAFFIC, I WOULD HAVE CRASHED. IT APPEARS TO BE FINE NOW BUT I UNDERSTAND IT IS INTERMITTENT AND CAN'T BE DUPLICATED; THEREFORE, HYUNDAI WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THEY DON+T KNOW WHAT TO DO. BUT IT DOESN+T CHANGE THE FACT THAT THIS CAUSES ACCIDENTS AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I AM NOW SCARED TO DRIVE MY OWN VEHICLE. APPROXIMATELY 2015 THE FUEL LEVEL SENSORS BEGAN MALFUNCTIONING AND THEN FAILED COMPLETELY WITHIN A FEW WEEKS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CONSTANTLY SHOW AN EMPTY FUEL LIGHT EVEN WHEN FULL. IN 2017 AT SOME THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR BRAKE CALIPER BRACKET PINS SEIZED WITH NO NOTICEABLE DRIVING DIFFERENCE UNTIL DRIVERS SIDE REAR ROTOR BEGAN TO FAIL. I DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH ONLY 1 REAR BRAKE. HYUNDAI DOESN'T SELL THE PARTS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE WHOLE CALIPER MUST BE PURCHASED NOT JUST THE DEFECTIVE PARTS.

THE GAS SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONING. CAUSE THE TANK TO SHOW OUT OF GAS WHEN THERE IS AT LEAST A HALF A TANK IN IT. THIS HAS ALSO CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON AND OFF WHENEVER IT WANTS TO. I WOULD TRAVEL TO GET IT CHECK ONLY FOR THE LIGHT TO BE OFF. I AM UNABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE WITH OUT FILLING UP MY TANK EVERY COUPLE OF DAY TO ENSURE THAT I ACTUALLY HAVE GAS. IT IS CAUSING THE CAR TO BE SLOW IN STARTING AFTER A LIGHT OR WHEN TRYING TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC, HITTING THE GAS DOES NOT REALLY DO MUCH. IT'S A DANGER ON THE ROAD. IN DOING A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH WHILE TRYING TO DETERMINE WHAT THE ISSUE MIGHT BE - IT SEEMS THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD AND KNOWN HYUNDAI PROBLEM THAT HASN'T BEEN ADDRESSED BECUASE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A LOSS OF LIFE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. AFTER DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE, THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, WHICH PRODUCED FAILURE CODES FOR THE FUEL SENDERS AND BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V113000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

AND A SECOND TIME WHILE TURNING INTO WORK ROAD AND STALLING OUT AGAIN MID TURN AND ALMOST TURNING INTO A DITCH. I WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THEY HAD TO DO BOTH BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T SURE WHICH ONE IT IS. IF NOT FIXED COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT, WELL IF THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR MOST HYUNDAI VEHICLES THIS SHOULD BE FIXED BY THE COMPANY WHO MAKES IT NOT THE PEOPLE WHO BUY FAULTY PRODUCTS.

ABOUT A MONTH AGO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I HAD ABOUT A HALF TANK OF GAS AT THE TIME. WHILE WAITING ON A PASSENGER THE FUEL GAUGE WENT TO EMPTY. WHEN RESEARCHING THE RECALL I NOTICED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE SANTA FE VEHICLES.

I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE WHICH IS INCREDIBLY UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS!!! WHEN THE GAUGE GETS BELOW HALF A TANK, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR MONTHS AND NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL NOT TURN OFF AT ALL NO MATTER HOW MUCH GAS THE CAR HAS. THEN, CAR STARTED TO SMELL LIKE GAS INSIDE WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. TOOK TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TO FIX AND WAS QUOTED OVER $1,000. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED, THE GAS GAUGE ISSUE IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE SOMEONE COULD RUN OUT OF GAS AND BE STRANDED.

IN ADDITION TO BEING A COSTLY CONSUMER REPAIR DUE TO THE MANUFACTURER DEFECT; THIS IS VERY PROBABLY A SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT WITHOUT A RELIABLE FUEL INDICATOR ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THE VEHICLE OPERATOR COULD EASILY, UNKNOWINGLY, RUN OUT OF FUEL WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF THOSE IN THE SUV BEING INJURED OR WORSE. THIS PROBLEM EXISTS WHENEVER THE SUV IS BEING DRIVEN ON A ROADWAY AS WELL AS WHEN PARKED WITH THE ENGINE ON OR RUNNING. THIS SUV ONLY HAS 44,000 MILES ON IT.

HAPPENED THE NEXT DAY AS WELL , NOW WHEN I DRIVE WHETHER ITS A COLD START OR AFTER 30 MINUTES OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE GOES INTO LIMP MODE. I TOOK IT TO TE DEALER AND $350 DOLLARS LATER IHAD THE PROBLEM FIXED, TURNED OUT TO BE A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT I FEEL NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY HYUNDAI IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR KILLED. NOW NO MATTER WHEN I DRIVE WHETHER ITS A COLD START OR AFTER 30 MINUTES OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE GOES INTO LIMP MODE. WHILE DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED ON BACK ROADS IS NOT A SERIOUS ISSUE I FEEL THAT WHEN I AM ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT 65MPH AND IT HAPPENS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE IN MY VEHICLE. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTE FE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED; HOWEVER, THERE WAS THE SMELL OF FUEL INSIDE THE CABIN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SMELL INCREASED WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS ACTIVATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK FRACTURED AND WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V317000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

THE GAUGE TELLING ME HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE IS NOT READING CORRECTLY DUE TO THE SENSOR MALFUNCTION AND CAN CAUSE ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS AT ANY TIME. THE DEALER REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT WITHOUT CHARGING ME A $98 "DIAGNOSTIC FEE" EVEN THOUGH THE DIAGNOSTIC WAS DONE ELSEWHERE. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS VEHICLE BUT THEY REFUSE TO HONOR THAT AS WELL.

IN THE PAST 6 WEEKS, MY GAS GAUGE FLUCTUATES BETWEEN EMPTY OR WHEREVER ELSE IT WANTS TO LAND. IT IS VERY UNRELIABLE TO USE THE ODOMETER/TRIP CALCULATOR TO PINPOINT HOW MUCH GAS IS LEFT IN THE TANK. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS FUEL SENSOR ISSUE ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND COME TO FIND OUT THIS HAS BEEN A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 AND 2008 HYUNDAI SANTA FE'S. HYUNDAI HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL SENSOR STARTING WITH THE 2009'S SO THEY REALIZED THERE WAS AN ISSUE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE REPAIR FOR THE FUEL SENSOR CAN RUN ALMOST A $1,000, WHICH IS A HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR A PROBLEM THAT HYUNDAI KNOWS EXISTS. PLEASE HELP.

READING YOUR WEBPAGE LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM ON THE 2007 SANTA FE. MY ONLY OPTION IS TO CONTINUALLY TOP OFF THE GAS TANK TO INSURE THE VEHICLE IS FUELED. TOOK IT TO DENNIS HYUNDAI OF DUBLIN OH AND WAS INFORMED BY SERVICE MANAGER THAT THIS IS A REGULAR PROBLEM ON 2007 SANTA FE'S. HE SAID THE YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT SPORADICALLY LIGHTS IS TRIGGERED BY FAULTY GAS LEVEL SENSOR. THE DEALER CLEARED THE TROUBLE CODE FOR ME AND SUGGESTED I NOT WASTE MY MONEY ON THE COSTLY REPAIR OF THE SENSOR AND USE MY ODOMETER TO TRACK WHEN I SHOULD FILL THE TANK. UNFORTUNATELY THE ODOMETER IS NOT DESIGNED OR INTENDED FOR THIS PURPOSE. MOST OF THE TIME THE FUEL LEVEL GAGE ON THE DASHBOARD READS COMPLETELY EMPTY SO I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH FUEL REMAINS IN MY TANK. ALSO WITH THE YELLOW CHECK ENGINE CONTINUALLY LIT I'LL HAVE NO PRACTICAL WAY OF KNOWING IF SOME OTHER EMISSION CONTROL FAULT HAPPENS WITHOUT REPEATEDLY HAVING TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO VERIFY THE TROUBLE CODE CAUSE. GAS GAUGES SERVE A VITAL ROLE IN KEEPING THE DRIVER INFORMED OF WHEN THE TANK NEEDS MORE FUEL. WITHOUT A RELIABLE FUNCTIONING GAUGE THERE IS CONTINUAL RISK OF DEPLETING THE FUEL, RESULTING IN A STALLED ENGINE AND LOSS OF POWER BRAKES AND POWER STEERING, GREATLY INCREASING RISK OF AN ACCIDENT. IT IS EVIDENT FROM THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FILED ON THIS PROBLEM THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW OR DEFECT IN THE PARTS OR SYSTEM INVOLVING THIS FUEL LEVEL SENSOR AND GAUGE. IN AUGUST 2013, THE GAS GAUGE ON MY 2007 SANTA FE STARTED ACTING STRANGE. (61000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE). WHEN I WOULD FILL UP THE GAS TANK, THE LOW FUEL LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD SHOW EMPTY. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 50 MILES, THE LOW FUEL LIGHT WOULD GO OUT BUT THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD SHOW PARTIALLY FULL. THIS WENT ON FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND THEN MY SANTA FE WAS DUE FOR ITS ANNUAL PENNSYLVANIA STATE INSPECTION. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WOULDN'T PASS THE INSPECTION WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND THE CODES SHOWED THE FUEL GAUGE SENSORS WERE BAD. BOTH FUEL GAUGE SENSORS WERE REPLACED BY MY LOCAL MECHANIC (NOT HYUNDAI) FOR ABOUT $290. I'VE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT HAVE SEEN NO RECALL FROM HYUNDAI.

THIS IS OUR 3RD HYUNDAI SANTA FE. OUR 1ST WAS AN 2006 MODEL, WITH WHICH WE HAD NO PROBLEMS. OUR 2ND WAS TOTALED BECAUSE OF ANOTHER DRIVERS FAULT. WE WERE FORCED TO AVOID HER PULLING INTO OUR LANE- HEAD ON AND WENT OFF THE ROAD HITTING SOME PINE BUSHES AND A TELEPHONE GUIDE WIRE. WE WERE DOING 45MPH AT THE TIME WE LEFT THE ROAD AND HOT THE BUSHES. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS CONSIDERED TOTALED BY THE ADJUSTER. SO WE REPLACED THE CAR WITH ANOTHER 2007 SANTA FE LIMITED AND AT FIRST ALL WAS GOOD. NOW THE FUEL SENDING UNITS ARE NOT WORKING. IN THE FUEL SYSTEM THE GAS TANKS(2) ARE CONSIDERED SADDLEBACKS AND ARE LOCATED UNDER THE REAR SEAT. THE OBD ERRORS CODES STATE THAT NEITHER UNIT IS WORKING AND IT IS NOW COSTING US AN ADDITIONAL $525 - AS IT FAILED THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE EMISSIONS TEST. HYUNDAI IS AWARE THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE AND IS NOT BEING TOLD TO FIX IT. CONSUMERS DESERVE BETTER.

I HAVE NOT INFORMED THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER YET WHO LAST DID A 90,000 MAINTENANCE ON IT 8/27/2014. THE VEHICLE HAD 88,496 MILES ON IT.

I HAVE OWNED MY SANTA FE SINCE 2011 WITH NO ISSUES & I HAVE ALWAYS DONE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. I CAME HOME FROM WORK WITH HALF A TANK OF GAS- GOT BACK IN MY VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR LATER AND MY FUEL GAGE READ THAT I WAS ON E, LIGHT WAS ON, AND MY TRIP METER READ 35 MILES REMAINING WITH THE GAS I HAD. I REFUELED THAT DAY, PUTTING 20 DOLLARS OF GAS AND IT FILLED IT ALMOST UP. MY GAS TANK REQUIRES $40-$50 TO COMPLETELY FILL SO WE KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG. MY HUSBAND, BEING A MECHANIC, CHECKED TO MAKE SURE I DIDN'T HAVE ANY LEAKS OR HOLES IN MY GAS TANK THAT COULD BE CAUSING THE ISSUE. 4 DAYS LATER I ARRIVE AT WORK WITH HALF A TANK OF GAS. WHEN I LEAVE 3 HOURS LATER MY FUEL GAGE AGAIN SAYS I AM ON E, LIGHT IS ON, AND I ONLY HAVE 30-40 MILES LEFT WITH THE GAS I HAVE. AS I WAS DRIVING THE CLUTCH PEDAL SUDDENLY DROPPED TO THE FLOOR FROM UNDERNEATH MY FOOT. THEN THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE, EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND OVER THE CLUTCH. FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT REGISTERING CORRECTLY THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE TANK. WE WOULD FILL UP THE TANK AND THE GAUGE WOULD READ EMPTY. INVESTIGATED AND FOUND THAT GM VEHICLES HAD THE SAME ISSUE IN MANY MODELS FROM 2005-2007. THEY WERE RECALLED, THERE IS NO RECALL TO DATE FOR HYUNDAI VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE COULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, PEOPLE DON'T HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THEIR TANKS AND THEY CAN INADVERTENTLY RUN OUT OF FUEL ON THE HIGHWAY OR ON RURAL ROADS. I HAVE THE SENSORS THAT WERE REMOVED FROM OUR VEHICLE. I AM GUESSING CAR MANUFACTURES PROBABLY BUY THESE PARTS FROM THE SAME COMPANY. SO WHY WEREN'T ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS SENSOR RECALLED? OR IF THEY DON'T BUY THEM FROM THE SAME COMPANY THEN AROUND THE 2007 TIME FRAME A LOT OF SENSORS WERE BAD. I HEARD HIM TELL THE SERVICE GUY THE EXACT SAME ISSUES I WAS HAVING. THEY PULLED MY CAR AROUND AND WHEN I GOT IN THE CAR THE ESC LIGHT WAS STILL ON SO I WENT BACK IN TO ASK ABOUT IT AND HE PULLS IT UP MY INFO AND TELLS ME THE PRODUCTION DATE DID NOT QUALIFY AND THAT IT'S THE BRAKE SWITCH. HE THEN SHOWS ME THE PRODUCTION DATE FOR THE OTHER CUSTOMER AND USES IT AS AN EXAMPLE AS TO HOW IT'S BASED ON WHEN THE CAR WAS BUILT. HE EXPLAINS WHY IT HAPPENS AND THE DANGER IN IT SO I STOP HIM AND ASK HIM IF IT'S JUST A COINCIDENCE THAT THERE'S A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. ANY WAY YOU LOOK AT IT THE OTHER CUSTOMER HAD THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL AND YEAR AS MINE WITH THE SAME BRAKE SWITCH RECALL PROBLEM YET IT DIDN'T AFFECT MY CAR AND HE LOOKED AT ME AND SAID THE DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T GET PAID FOR THE WORK CAUSE IT WOULDN'T BE REIMBURSED BY HYUNDAI AND IF I CALL HYUNDAI AND WAS REAL NICE THAT THEY MAY ALLOW IT. I CALLED AND VERY NICELY EXPLAINED THAT MY CAR WAS HAVING THE ISSUES DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE BRAKE SWITCH AND THAT A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP HAD INSPECTED IT AND PRINTED ME COPIES STATING THAT IT WAS THE ISSUE FOR THE RECALL AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. AFTER RESEARCH ONLINE IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 SANTAFE AND SEEMS TO HAPPEN AROUND THIS MILEAGE. I THINK THAT A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED FOR THIS COMMON PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD EVENTUALLY THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN. COSTS ABOUT $500 TO REPAIR. I JUST PURCHASED MY VEHICLE 5 WEEKS PRIOR AS USED WITH 50320 ON THE ODOMETER. I HAVE A LIMITED WARRANTY THROUGH THE DEALER AND AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AS WELL. NEITHER WARRANTY COVERS THIS PROBLEM. I AM SEEING THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. I'LL FILL UP AND IT STILL READS EMPTY WITH THE LOW FUEL LIGHT ON AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. IT'LL EVENTUALLY AFTER FEW START UPS START TO "SUPPOSEDLY" DISPLAY THE CORRECT GAS AMT ON THE GAUGE. I RESET MY TRIP METER TO MEASURE HOW MANY MILES ON THE TANK SO I DON'T RUN OUT. BUT THE STALLING ON ACCELERATION IS A BIG ISSUE. THIS COULD HAPPEN AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AND END UP CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I'VE READ ON THIS SIGHT OTHERS HAVING SAME PROBLEM.. I HAD SAME PROBLEM WITH A GMC ENVOY, ABOUT THE SAME YEAR AS MY HYUNDAI, GMC MADE GOOD ON THE PROBLEM AND COVERED THE EXPENSES AS THEY HAD A "SILENT" RECALL ON THAT ISSUE. IT TURNS OUT I HAD PLENTY OF GAS IN THE TANK AND THE GAUGE WASN'T REGISTERING IT PROPERLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. IT'S ALMOST LIKE THE CAR NEEDS TO "WARM UP" BEFORE THE FUEL GAUGE ACTUALLY REGISTERS THE AMOUNT OF GAS CORRECTLY. AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUES TO GO ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. I AM CONCERNED THAT PROBLEM COULD WORSEN WITH TIME AND WILL EFFECT OTHER SYSTEMS IN THE CAR. THE GAS GAUGE WAS FLUCTUATING DRASTICALLY FROM ONE STOP UNTIL THE NEXT ONE. ONE MINUTE WE HAD HALF A TANK OF GAS AND WE WENT INTO A STORE. WHEN WE CAME OUT OF THE STORE THE GAS GAUGE WAS ON E. WE DROVE FOR A LITTLE BIT AND THE FUEL LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALL OF A SUDDEN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIAGNOSED THAT BOTH THE SENSORS IN THE FUEL TANK HAD STOPPED WORKING. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT APPEARS THERE IS SOMETHING UNIQUE GOING ON WITH THESE FUEL SENSORS. MOST ALL THE ISSUES I COULD FIND WERE ONLY 2007 & 2008 SANTA FES. I WOULD SEEM HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT JUST THESE TWO MODEL YEAR HAVE THIS ISSUE UNLESS THEY GOT A DEFECTIVE BATCH OF FUEL SENSORS THAT WENT INTO THEM OR THE INSTALLATION WAS FAULTY, ETC. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN JUST OVER 5 YEAR MARK WHICH IS JUST OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. I FEEL THAT AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE DONE INTO THIS MATTER.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MPG COUNTER (MILES PER GALLON) ACTING ERRATICALLY. BROUGHT CAR IMMEDIATELY TO DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT "THE FUEL SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE" (THEIR WORDS). THERE IS A 5 YEAR/50,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THIS PART AND MY CAR IS 2 MONTHS OVER THE TIME LIMIT! THE COST OF REPLACEMENT IS HIGH ($700) BUT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE SENSOR TELLS ME HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK, I FELT, FOR SAFETY'S SAKE, IT SHOULD BE REPLACED. I FEEL THAT THE TIMING OF THE FAILURE OF THIS PART IS SUSPECT AND WOULD LIKE THE NHTSA TO RESEARCH WHETHER THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE AMONG HYUNDAI 2007 SANTA FE OWNERS.

I TOOK MY 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE TO THE DEALER ON 4/6/12 BECAUSE THE GAS GAUGE WAS FLUCTUATING CONSTANTLY. I COULD NOT TELL HOW MUCH GAS WAS IN THE TANK AT ANY GIVEN TIME. THEY REPLACED THE GAS FLOAT DURING THAT VISIT. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR FROM THE DEALER, THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH STRONG GAS FUMES. ALL OF THE TECHNICIANS AND SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES WERE GONE WHEN I ARRIVED SO I DID NOT HAVE ANYONE TO TALK TO ABOUT IT. I FIGURED THE SMELL WOULD GO AWAY BUT THE PROBLEM SURFACED EVERY TIME I FILLED MY GAS TANK MORE THAN HALF FULL. THE SMELL LESSENS DURING THE DAY AS THE CAR AIRS OUT WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN BUT AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT OR ALL DAY WITH THE DOORS AND WINDOWS CLOSED, THE FUMES BUILD UP AGAIN. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER ON 6/27/12 AND COMPLAINED OF THE OVERPOWERING GAS FUMES EVERY TIME I PUT GAS IN MY CAR. I EXPLAINED THAT I NOTICED A PATTERN OF THE FUMES BECOMING WORSE IF THE TANK WAS MORE THAN HALF FULL AND I COULD NO LONGER FILL UP MY GAS TANK IN ORDER TO AVOID THE FUMES. THEY RETURNED THE CAR TO ME AND SAID THEY COULD NOT SMELL ANY FUMES NOR COULD THEY FIND A POSSIBLE CAUSE. EVERYTHING WAS SAID TO BE FINE WITH THE CAR. AFTER PUTTING GAS IN THE CAR ON 11/16/2012, THE CAR BECAME SO OVERWHELMINGLY FULL OF INTENSE GAS FUMES THAT I INSTANTLY DEVELOPED A HEADACHE AS SOON AS I GOT IN IT. I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALER THE NEXT MORNING BECAUSE I AM NO LONGER CONFIDENT THE CAR IS SAFE. I DO NOT WANT TO CONTINUE BREATHING GAS FUMES AND GETTING HEADACHES WHEN I GET IN THE CAR. ONCE AGAIN THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME WITH NO REPORT OF A PROBLEM. THEY HAD THE WINDOWS AND VENTS OPEN SO I AM NOT SURPRISED THEY DID NOT SMELL GAS. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT MAYBE I WAS TOPPING OFF THE GAS TANK TOO MUCH OR SPILLING GAS AROUND THE GAS CAP. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE COULD NOT BE A LEAK IN THE SEALS BECAUSE IF THERE WAS, THE SENSOR WOULD GO OFF.

A DAY AFTER FILLING MY TANK THE GAUGE READ EMPTY. I TRIED FILLING IT UP AGAIN AND IT NEED ONLY ABOUT TWO GALLONS BEFORE OVERFLOWING. A FEW MONTHS LATER, WHEN I TOOK THE CAR FOR AN OIL CHANGE, THEY SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. I DID EXPLAIN THAT THE TANK RELEASE AND THE GAS GAUGE WAS NOT WORKING (I BELIEVE THAT WHEN I VISITED THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT THEY KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THEY RESET THE LIGHT BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THIS HAPPENED PRIOR TO THE 5 YEARS WARRANT EXPIRATION). IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND WHEN I WENT IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR, I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO FUEL SENDERS @ A COST OF $ABOUT $450.00 INCLUSIVE. THE GAUGE WAS NOT WORKING PRIOR TO THE 5 YEAR EXPIRATION AND THE DEALER SAID THAT AND THE TANK RELEASE WERE FINE. THE AUTOMOBILE HAS A PROBLEM JUST ABOUT EVERYONE WHO OWNS A 2007 SANTA FEE HAS A FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEM. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM AND PROTECT CONSUMERS FROM THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. FUEL TANK GAUGE IS NOT REGISTERING PROPERLY. AFTER A FILL UP THE EMPTY LIGHT COMES ON AFTER DRIVING LESS THAN 150 MILES. MY WIFE RAN OUT OF GAS ON A BUSY FREEWAY DUE TO THE GAUGE ALWAYS READING WRONG. WE LOVE THE CAR AND WE ARE EVEN LOOKING AT TRADING IT IN FOR ONE THAT GETS BETTER MILEAGE FROM HYUNDAI. FUEL GAUGE READINGS WENT ERRATIC WITHIN 6 MONTHS AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED. I HAVE TO LEAVE A GALLON OF GAS IN MY CAR BECAUSE THE GAUGE IS SO BAD. PROBLEM RECURRENCE: 09/2012 (2 YEARS LATER) DEALER COMMENT: $125 DIAGNOSTIC FEE THAT CAN LATER ON BE CREDITED TO OVERALL COST OF REPAIR. DESPITE RECURRENCE OF PROBLEM, HYUNDAI ONLY PROVIDES 12 MONTHS WARRANTY ON PARTS/LABOR, ERGO, VEHICLE OWNER MUST SHOULDER ALL REPAIR EXPENSES (AS PER PARKWAY HYUNDAI VALENCIA SERVICE AGENT). OWNER COMMENT: THERE WERE NO CHARGES ON THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OF THE PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AND THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL GAUGE FLUCTUATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT BOTH OF THE FUEL TANK SENDING UNITS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
