TL* THE CONTACT INQUIRED ABOUT A 2007 DODGE RAM 1500. THE CONTACT HEARD ABNORMAL NOISES COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE COUPLER BETWEEN THE CENTER LINK AND THE TIE ROD END WAS DAMAGED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,000. CONSUMER STATED ALL STEERING PARTS REPLACED, RECOMMENDATION MADE BY THE DEALER. UPDATED 11/27/18

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,507.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE RAM 1500. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY FRACTURED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE FRONT WHEEL, BRAKE ROTOR, AND BRAKE CALIPER TO SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. PREVIOUSLY, THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY ALSO FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THAT TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 189,000.

I WAS DRIVING 40 MPH (NORMALLY 55 AS IT IS A DOWNTOWN CORRIDOR) DOWN A MAIN HIGHWAY IN MY AREA, WHERE THERE WAS ON-GOING ROAD CONSTRUCTION AND FELT A SLIGHT "SHIMMY" AND THEN A DRIFTING, SIMILAR TO HYDROPLANING. I EXITED OFF THE HIGHWAY, ONTO MY PRE-PLANNED EXIT AND DROVE ANOTHER MILE OR SO. I WAS THEN GOING AROUND A TRAFFIC CIRCLE (IN A BEARING CURVE TO THE LEFT), AT APPROXIMATELY 15-20 MPH, AND BEGAN TO FEEL A HARD "SHIMMY". WITHIN SECONDS, IT PROGRESSED TO A LURCHING AND SHAKING...AS I WATCHED MY REAR DRIVERS-SIDE WHEEL AND TIRE SPIN AROUND IN THE ROAD/TRAFFIC CIRCLE BEHIND ME. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE OF MY TRUCK WAS SITTING ON THE ROTOR. THE TIRE WAS APPROX 25-30 FEET BEHIND ME, AND ALL 5 LUGS WERE FOUND AT THE LOCATION THAT I ENTERED THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE.

SEVERE NOISE IN REAR PINION AREA, POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO REAR DIFFERENTIAL; FROM PREVIOUS PROBLEM WHEN REAR PINION NUT BACKED OFF CAUSING REAR PINION FLANGE & DRIVE LINE TO FALL OUT OF THE REAR END. THIS OCCURRED LESS THAN 300 MILES AFTER INCIDENT ASSOCIATED WITH CONFORMATION NUMBER 10763197. AS WELL AS I FORGOT TO MENTION THIS AT THE TIME OF FILING THE OTHER INCIDENT, WHEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE FORWARD DUE TO A LOCKED DIFFERENTIAL, WE HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO GET IT SAFELY OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, IF I HADN'T OF HAD HELP I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE SAFELY TO A SAFE LOCATION TO WAIT UNTIL ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE ARRIVED. I HAD COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROLLING THE ACCELERATION SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. THE SAME PART ISSUES WERE ASSOCIATED WITH PRIOR AND LATTER YEAR RECALLS, 13V038000, 14V796000. I WAS LUCKY WITH MY SON TO HAVE NOT BEEN ON THE FREEWAY IF THE DRIVE SHAFT HAD FALLEN OUT AT FASTER SPEEDS, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A BAD CRASH TO MY VEHICLE, OR ANOTHER PERSON WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN BEHIND ME IN THE SAME LANE DUE TO A LOOSE DRIVE SHAFT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TWO FRONT TIRE LUG NUTS WERE LOOSE. THE LUG NUTS WAS TIGHTEN, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE LUG NUTS INDEPENDENTLY, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE HUB ASSEMBLY WAS FRACTURED AND THE WHEEL BEGAN TO SEPARATE ON BOTH SIDES. AS A RESULT, THE HUB ASSEMBLY AND WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 10E040000 (WHEELS). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.

MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING HOME A FEW DAYS AGO WHEN SUDDENLY THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED HARD LEFT WHILE THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK STARTED SLIDING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I CORRECTED THE WHEEL BUT IT WAS SO LOOSE THAT WE FISH TAILED THE OTHER DIRECTION. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VIOLENTLY WHIPPING BACK AND FORTH AS I TRIED DESPERATELY TO GAIN CONTROL. FINALLY THE TRUCK STRAIGHTENED OUT AND SEEMED TO BE FUNCTIONING NORMALLY AFTER THE NEAR CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. THE FOLLOWING DAY I TOOK THE TRUCK AND IT STARTED SCREECHING LIKE DRAGGING METAL UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOORBOARD. I GOT OUT TO SEE IF ANYTHING WAS DRAGGING FROM THE TRUCK, BUT DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING. I MADE IT HOME BUT IT WAS SCREECHING OFF AND ON. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I JACKED THE WHEEL OFF THE GROUND TO CHECK UNDER THE CAR I FOUND THAT THE WHEEL WAS VERY LOOSE. I STARTED DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND I SOON FOUND TWO RECALLS FOR MY TRUCK. THE FIRST RECALL WAS A FAULTY LEFT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY AND ANOTHER WAS AN UNRELIABLE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY. I CALLED CHRYSLER CORP. TO GET MY TRUCK FIXED BUT I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT PART OF ANY OF THE RECALLS. I VERIFIED THAT MY TRUCK WAS ON BOTH RECALL LISTS AND SHE AGREE WHILE EXPLAINING EVERY VEHICLE IN THAT PARTICULAR PRODUCTION WASN'T RECALLED.

ON FEBRUARY 24, 2012, I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE FROM LEFT FRONT WHEEL. TOOK IT TO REPAIR SHOP, WHEN TRUCK LIFTED THE ENTIRE FRONT LEFT WHEEL WAS SHAKING AND ABOUT TO FALL OFF. THIS VEHICLE HAS 55,600 MILES ON IT. REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED ON IT EVERY 3000 MILES OR SOONER IF MAINTENANCE NEEDED. THE HUB ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $303.95. I WAS TOLD THAT HAD THIS NOT BEEN TAKEN CARE OF, THERE WAS AN EXTREMELY HIGH FACT THAT THE WHEEL WOULD OF FALLEN OFF WHILE TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED.

I JUST BOUGHT THE TRUCK A WEEK PRIOR TO THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. I HIT A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD GOING ABOUT 55 MPH. WHEN I HIT THE BUMP THE WHOLE TRUCK AND THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE TRUCK. IT FELT LIKE THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK HAD BROKEN AND WAS COMING APART. I HIT THE BREAKS AND IT FINALLY STOPPED SHAKING WHEN I GOT DOWN TO ABOUT 30 MPH. I PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT AND LOOKED AROUND THE TRUCK, AND I FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT SO I SLOWLY DROVE IT BACK HOME. HAD IT LOOKED AT THE NEXT MORNING AND WAS TOLD SINCE IT HAD ONLY DONE IT ONCE THAT I SHOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT IT. IT HAS BEEN ABOUT 3 WEEKS SINCE THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, AND IT HAS DONE IT 5 TIMES NOW. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND LET THEM LOOK AT IT, AND THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG THAT EVERYTHING LOOKED LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO. 2 OF THE 5 TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE WHILE I WAS GOING ABOUT 65-70 MPH AND HAD TO SLAM ON MY BREAKS IN TRAFFIC TO SLOW IT DOWN TO TRY TO GET IT TO STOP BEFORE I LOST CONTROL OF THE TRUCK, ALMOST CAUSING THE DRIVER BEHIND ME TO HIT ME. I HAVE DONE ALOT OF RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE SAME TRUCKS AND THEY ARE CALLING IT A "DEATH WOBBLE", YET NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT? I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY TRUCK ON THE INTERSTATE NOW BECAUSE IM AFRAID THAT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD IF I LOSE CONTROL OF THE TRUCK WHEN IT STARTS THE VIOLENT SHAKING. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, AND I FEEL LIKE THERE SHOULD BE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT IT ASAP.

EXPERIENCED STRONG VIBRATION IN FRONT LEFT SIDE OF VEHICLE, AS THOUGH DRIVING ON RUMBLE STRIP ON HIGHWAY. SPEED WAS IRRELEVANT, ANYWHERE FROM 25 MPH AND ABOVE. FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS A LOCKED CALIPER OR OTHER WHEEL/BRAKE ISSUE. BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP WHERE TRUCK WAS ALWAYS MAINTAINED, AND AFTER THEIR INSPECTION, THEY FIND NOTHING. THIS WAS MARCH, 2010. EXPERIENCED SAME VIBRATION INTERMITTENTLY THROUGHOUT SUMMER OF 2010. VIBRATION BECAME A COMMON OCCURRENCE. AT TIMES IT FEELS AS THOUGH I WAS DRIVING ON THE RIM. IN NOVEMBER, 2010, BROUGHT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP FOR SAME COMPLAINT. THEY FIND FRONT AXLE SHAFT REQUIRING REPLACEMENT, WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. ALSO FOUND WAS FRONT HUB AND BEARING REQUIRING REPLACEMENT, WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS FAILURE APPEARS TO BE THE SUBJECT OF 2006 MODEL YEAR RECALLS.

US CUSTOMER SERVICE - DODGE BRAND SITE BRIEF DESCRIPTION: WHEEL PROBLEMS COMMENTS: HELLO, I OWNED A 2001 RAM 1500 FOR 7 YEARS & 400,000 MILES WITH NO COMPLAINTS. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2007 4X4. I AM REALLY GLAD THAT DODGE HAS NOT MADE TOO MANY CHANGES TO THE TRUCK. I ONLY HAVE ONE MAJOR COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS TRUCK. THE WHEELS! I LIVE IN THE COUNTRY DOWN A DIRT ROAD. THE WHEELS ARE MADE WRONG. EVERYTIME I GO IN OUT FROM MY HOUSE WHEN IT'S MUDDY, THE MUD GETS IN A GROOVE ON THE INSIDE OF THE RIM THAT MAKES THE FRONTEND SHIMMY REALLY BAD. IT IS SO HARD TO DIG THIS DIRT AND MUD OUT YOU ALMOST HAVE TO TAKE THE WHEELS OFF TO GET IT ALL. THIS IS GOING TO REALLY WEAROUT THE FRONTEND PARTS VERY PREMATURELY. THE WHEELS ARE 17" AND ON GRAVEL ROADS, ROCKS GET HUNG BETWEEN THE RIM AND BRAKE CALIPER, AND CUT THE RIMS. 20" RIMS HAVE PLENTY OF CLEARANCE. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE SHAKING IS VERY DANGEROUS ON A WET HIGHWAY!! I HAVE TALKED WITH SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS EVEN CHEVY OWNERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I CONTACTED DODGE AND THEY REPLIED IT WASN'T OF ANY CONCERN TO THEM AND THAT I WAS ON MY OWN. IT SEEMS A TRUCK THAT LIST FOR $32,000 WOULD HAVE A SET OF WHEELS THAT WOULD NOT GIVE THIS MUCH TROUBLE. TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT MUD AND OR SNOW GOT INTO AND FROZE IN THE RIMS OF THE 2007 DODGE RAM 1500 WITH 500 FAILURE MILEAGE. THE VEHICLE THEN SHOOK WHEN DRIVEN ,ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE RIM HAD A CUP THAT HELD THE SNOW AND MUD, WHICH THREW THE VEHICLE OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT HE WILL ONE DAY HAVE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,900 MILES. UPDATED 04/30/07.
