I PURCHASED A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. AFTER A FEW MONTHS WITHOUT INCIDENT, THE VEHICLE WOULD RANDOMLY STALL (NO POWER, ENGINE OFF, STOP IN ITS TRACKS). AFTER IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES, I REALIZED THIS ONLY OCCURS WHEN FILLING THE TANK FULLY, AFTER DRIVING A MINUTE OR TWO. IT IS SO DANGEROUS! LUCKILY, I HAD ALWAYS PULLED INTO A NEARBY STORE FOR ANOTHER ERRAND. IF IT HAD HAPPENED ON THE STREET, I WOULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED! THE VEHICLE STOPS WITH NO WARNING. ALL POWER SHUTS OFF AND ENGINE DIES. IT STOPS IN ITS PLACE AND YOU ARE UNABLE TO COAST AND PULL OVER. I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS.

INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS AND GAUGES WOULD FLICKER AND PULSE ON AND OFF, AT TIMES JUST OFF AT NIGHT FOR DIFFERENT PERIODS OF TIME, USUALLY MINUTES. HEADLIGHTS WOULD FLICKER BETWEEN BRIGHTS AND DIMS OR ON AND OFF. RADIO LIGHTS FLICKER ON OR OFF. INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS LIGHT UP FOR MINUTES AT A TIME AND THEN SHUT OFF WITH APPARENTLY NOTHING WRONG. SEAT BELT AUDIBLE ALARM SOUNDS ON OCCASION WHEN DRIVING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. COOLING FAN TURNS ON HOURS AFTER PARKING AND CAN ONLY BE SHUT OFF BY REMOVING FUSE OR DRAINING BATTERY. ENGINE STALLS AT HIGH SPEED ABRUPTLY, AND TURNS BACK ON. TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES AND THEN RE-ENGAGES AFTER A FEW SECONDS. OCCASIONALLY THE IGNITION SWITCH WILL NOT PROVIDE POWER TO THE STARTER UNTIL AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS AND A FEW MINUTES.

AT FIRST, SIMPLE TOGGLING WOULD GET THEM TO WORK THOUGH THE FREQUENCY OF HAVING TO DO THIS AS WELL AS THE LIGHTS FAILING TO STAY ON HAVE INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY IN THE RECENT MONTHS. THIS IS MY WIFE'S PRIMARY WORK VEHICLE AND SHE OFTEN RETURNS FROM WORK WHEN IT'S DARK. SHE HAD A NUMBER OF INSTANCES WHERE THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE JUST "GONE OUT" WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING. I WAS LOOKING ON THE INTERNET RECENTLY TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY POSTS AS TO WHAT IS CAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN AND NOT MANY HAVE POSTED AN DEFINITIVE ANSWER TO THE HEADLIGHT FAILURE. MY OTHER MAJOR ISSUE WITH THIS 2005 TOWN & COUNTRY IS THE AC SYSTEM. WE HAVE HAD THIS FIXED OVER 11 TIMES SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN OCTOBER OF 2005 WITH THE FIRST REPAIR COMING LESS THAN A MONTH AFTER WE PURCHASED THE VAN.

WE HAVE HAD TWO CLOSE ACCIDENTS WITH OTHER VEHICLES INCLUDING A SCHOOL BUS PASSING BY WHEN THE CAR STALLS RANDOMLY. MY HUSBAND HAS TAKEN OUR VAN TO THE REPAIR SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES AND NO CODES COME UP. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE BECAUSE THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE VAN TO JUST STALL RANDOMLY. THERE WERE NO FURTHER REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE VEHICLE AUTO WARRANTY SHOULD TAKE THE LIABILITY FOR THE VEHICLE REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 47,000.

I STARTED HEARING A WHINNING NOISE COMING FROM THE HOOD OF THE VAN A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. THE NOISE WAS WORSE WHEN THE WEATHER WAS COLDER AND THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT IN AND DISCOVERED THAT THE POWERSTEERING FLUID HAD LEAKED OUT AND THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REASON THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WASN'T BECAUSE OF THE POWERSTEERING BUT BECAUSE THE EGR VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE BRAKES (FRONT/BACK) NEEDED REPLACING. JUST HAD THEM REPLACED NOT THAT LONG AGO. $2300.00 LATER. DRIVE AWAY, 1 WEEK LATER ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN, NOW I HAVE AN ENGINE OIL LEAK AND THE EMISSIONS EXHAUST SYSTEM IS FAULTY. I ONLY HAVE 55,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE AND IT IS LESS THAN 4 YEARS OLD, I WOULD EXPECT THIS FROM AN OLDER CAR. I HAVE A FAMILY OF 6 TO WORRY ABOUT THEIR SAFETY AND I AM NOT VERY CONFIDENT IN THIS PRODUCT THAT CHRYSLER HAS PRODUCED. IT IS A SHAME THAT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND ADMIT THEIR FAULTS. THEY HAVE LOST ME AS A FUTURE CUSTOMER AS WELL AS MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS. IN TODAY'S ECONOMY, OUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON A TEACHER'S SALARY IS QUICKLY GOING DOWN THE DRAIN WITH THIS VEHICLE. ARE THEY WAITING FOR A DEATH TO ACTUALLY OCCUR BEFORE THEY START TO HONOR A RECALL? I WOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS FORUM IF IT WASN'T FOR CONSUMER REPORTS. HOW MANY CHRSYLER CONSUMERS ARE OUT THERE WHO DON'T KNOW WHERE TO LOOK AND FIND OUT THAT THEY HAVE A FAULTY VEHICLE,THAT THEY REALLY AREN'T DOWN ON THEIR LUCK. UPON HEARING A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE OF OUR 2005 TOWN AND COUNTRY WE TOOK THE VAN TO OUR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. HE FOUND THE NOISE WAS CAUSED BY A BROKEN ALTERNATOR MOUNT. HE DID NOT COMPLETE ANY REPAIRS BUT STATED WE SHOULD CONTACT CHRYSLER SINCE THIS WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN THE PART. WHEN I CONTACTED CHRYSLER I WAS TOLD I HAD TO TAKE IT TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT AND THEN THE DEALERSHIP WOULD HAVE TO CALL THEM BACK. I DID THAT AND THE SHOP MANAGER, JIM, TOOK AN APPROXIMATELY 15 SECOND LOOK AT THE BROKEN PART, SHUT THE HOOD, TOOK MY NUMBER AND ASKED WHY CHRYSLER SAID HE HAD TO CALL. I TOLD HIM THAT WAS WHAT I HAD BEEN TOLD AND HE SAID HE WOULD GET BACK WITH ME. I CALLED HIM THE NEXT DAY AND HE SAID HE HAD A CALL IN TO HIS DISTRICT MANAGER WHO HAD THE AUTHORITY TO AUTHORIZE REPAIRS. WHEN JIM CALLED BACK HE STATED THAT THE DISTRICT MANAGER WOULD NOT REPAIR THE BROKEN PART BASED ON THE NUMBER OF MILES ON THE VAN (83,000.) JIM ALSO STATED THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE AND HAD NO IDEA WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE MOUNT TO BREAK. HE AGREED THAT EVEN IF THE VAN HAD 200,000 MILES ON IT HE WOULD NOT EXPECT TO SEE THE BROKEN MOUNT. I ASKED WHAT OTHER RECOURSE I HAD AND HE STATED I WOULD HAVE TO CALL THE 1-800 CHRYSLER NUMBER. I THEN CALLED THAT NUMBER AND SPOKE WITH STEVE WHO TOOK A REPORT ( WHICH I REQUESTED TO HAVE FILED.) HE THEN TRANSFERRED ME TO CHERYL WHO READ THE REPORT AND THEN CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH JIM. WHEN SHE RETURNED TO ME SHE STATED THEY WOULD NOT DO THE REPAIR BASED ON THE NUMBER OF MILES AND THE FACT THAT I DID NOT EXCLUSIVELY USE THE DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. SHE SAID THAT SINCE I DID NOT SHOW LOYALTY TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE BRAND THEN THEY WERE NOT WILLING COVER THE REPAIR. NO ONE EVER DENIED THAT THE PRODUCT WAS DEFECTIVE.

THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER OF THE SAME VEHICLES AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP AWAITING THIS PART. THIS SEEMS AN UNREASONABLE SITUATION AND ONE THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ADDRESS. THE ONLY EXPLANATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER WAS THAT THIS IS A POPULAR CAR! IT LOOKS LIKE AN EXTRAORDINARY NUMBER OF DEFECTS IN THIS PART AS I RESEARCH IT ON THE INTERNET. THAT THIS PART WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE SUMMER IS OVER IS UNREASONABLE. WE ARE A RETIRED COUPLE AND MY HUSBAND HAS CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE AND COULD NOT IN ANY WAY BE SUBJECT TO THE TEMPERATURES INSIDE THIS VEHICLE. WE ARE THUS WITHOUT TRANSPORTATION. I TOO HAD A 2003 TOWN & COUNTRY MINIVAN WHICH WAS SUBJECT TO STEERING PROBLEMS. I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS FLUID ALL OVER MY DRIVE WAY AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS UNDRIVEABLE. SO, NOW, CHRYSLER REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE RENTAL CAR. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE PART IN QUESTION WAS ON BACK ORDER, AND THAT THERE WERE OVER 180 PARTS ON THAT BACK ORDER. WHY SHOULD I THE CUSTOMER HAVE TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR ON A NEW CAR WHEN THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. NOT MORE THAN 8 HOURS LATER, I RETURNED THE CAR WITH A NEW NOISE. THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND GASKET AS THEY WERE IMPROPERLY INSTALLED BY THE MECHANIC. I THEN REACHED UNDER TO GET THE BALL FOR HER AND BURNED MY WRIST ON THE SAME PIPE. OUR BURNS WERE SECOND DEGREE. MINE WAS SMALL BUT HERS WAS 4 INCHES LONG BY 1-1/2 INCHES WIDE ON HER LEFT THIGH. WE WENT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND ARE FOLLOWING UP TODAY WITH HER PEDIATRICIAN. I FEAR FOR INFECTION IN THE SHORT TERM AND SCARING IN THE LONG TERM. AS TO CORRECTING THE FAILURE, I WILL BE TAKING THE CAR TO OUR CHRYSLER DEALER AND ASKING THEM TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION. I WOULD NEVER EXPECT AN EXHAUST PIPE TO BE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE BY THE DRIVERS/PASSENGER DOOR, BUT I HEAR IT IS DUE TO THE "STOW N GO" SYSTEM AND THERE IS NO ROOM UP UNDERNEATH THE MINIVAN FOR THE EXHAUST PIPE.

WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA (LESS THAN 20 MPH) ON A VERY HOT DAY, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STALLED OUT AND ALL POWER LOST WHILE DRIVING, TWICE WITHIN 5 MINUTES. I WAS NOT LOW ON FUEL. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE TURNING LEFT AT AN INTERSECTION ON A STEEP DOWNHILL, THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WITHIN FIVE MINUTES ON A SLIGHT 20 DEGREE DOWNHILL/STRAIGHTAWAY. EACH TIME, I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO RESTART THE ENGINE, WHICH RESTARTED PROMPTLY. I TOOK THE MINIVAN TO THE DEALER WITHIN THE HOUR WHO COULD NOT FIND ANY ERROR CODES ON THE COMPUTER CHECK.
