HELLO, I CURRENTLY HAVE A MECHANICAL ISSUE WITH MY 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. IF I FILL THE GAS TANK UP COMPLETELY, THE ENGINE WILL STALL. THIS POSES A SAFETY RISK, AS A SUDDEN STOP ON THE HIGHWAY OR CITY ROADS CAN TURN ME INTO AN OBSTACLE AND ACCIDENT RISK. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THERE IS A CHRYSLER SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE EXACT ISSUE THAT I'M HAVING. MY VEHICLE IS AN MDH 0901XX, AND IT IS BUILT AFTER 09/01/2003. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, AND THE TECHNICIAN DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS MEANT. THE MDH FORMAT IS MMDDHH WHERE MM IS THE MONTH, DD IS THE DAY, AND HH IS THE HOUR. EXAMPLE: MDH 100819 DECODES AS: 10 = TENTH MONTH (OCTOBER) 08 = EIGHTH DAY 19 = NINETEENTH HOUR (7 PM) MY VEHICLE'S MDH IS 0901XX. IT WAS BUILT IN 09/2004. AND OF COURSE, IT'S HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THAT THIS NHTSA-ISSUED SERVICE BULLETIN ADDRESSES. BUT THE DEALER TECHNICIAN STILL REFUSED TO SERVICE MY VEHICLE. VEHICLE IS ELIGIBLE TO BE REPAIRED UNDER THIS WARRANTY EXTENSION (15-YEAR/UNLIMITED MILES, ACCORDING TO THE DOCUMENT ABOVE). AFTER REFUELING THE VAN STALLS AT LEAST ONCE BUT MAY STALL UP TO THREE TIMES. THE ENGINE SURGES IN RPM BEFORE STALLING. RESTART AFTER A STALL CAN SOMETIMES BE DIFFICULT. I HAVE LET THE VAN IDLE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AFTER REFUELING BUT IT DOES NOT STALL WHILE STATIONARY. IT USUALLY OCCURS WITHIN A MINUTE OF OPERATION ON THE STREET AND GENERALLY WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE GAS STATION LOT ONTO THE ROADWAY. ONCE THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A FEW MILES THERE ARE NO OTHER OCCURRENCES OF STALLING UNTIL IT IS REFUELED AGAIN. THE ISSUE USED TO BE INFREQUENT A FEW YEARS AGO BUT IS NO OCCURRING AFTER EVERY REFUELING.

VEHICLE STALLS OUT WITHIN 30 SECONDS OF FILLING THE GAS TANK. I DON'T DOUBLE CLICK THE NOZZLE. THE PART CAUSING THE PROBLEM IS THE "ROLLOVER VALVE". THIS IS PERMANENTLY ATTACHED TO THE GAS TANK. IT IS ALLOWING RAW GAS TO ENTER THE CHARCOAL CANISTER, NOT JUST FUMES. THE TANK MUST BE REPLACED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER. IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE EACH TIME. I READ OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME THING AND THAT IT WAS A BAD PART SO I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY SAID TOUGH, THE FACTORY WARRANTY WAS UP. WHEN I ASKED FURTHER THEY HUNG UP ON ME. I LIVE ON A VERY WINDY AND HILLY ROAD WITH ZERO SHOULDER, JUST A MILD TO STEEP DROP OFF INTO TREES. IF I STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS ROAD, NO ONCOMING CAR WILL SEE ME IN TIME TO STOP AND THEY CAN'T GO ONTO A NON-EXISTANT SHOULDER. IT WILL BE WORSE WHEN SNOW AND ICE COME. I HAVE KIDS AND NO EXTRA CAR TO USE. IF THIS IS A BECAUSE OF A FAULTY PART SHOULDN'T THEY FIX IT OR RECALL IT? I AM CLEARLY NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THERE ARE TONS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THE EXACT SAME THING WITH THE SAME VAN. WHAT CAN I DO? I BEGAN HAVING THE EXACT SAME COMPLAINT AS THE 2004-5 DODGE VANS HAVE WITH REGARD TO STALLING ABOUT 1 MINUTE AFTER A FILL UP. IT HAS HAPPENED AT EVERY FILL UP SINCE DECEMBER 2015, AND SPORADICALLY BEFORE, BUT I DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE SOURCE OF THE STALLING. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY TOLD ME MY VAN WAS MADE IN THE WINDSOR (AFFECTED PLANT) ON 6-10-2005 BUT THAT THE RECALL/REPAIR SHUT OFF IN APRIL, I BELIEVE. IT SEEMS TOO BIG A COINCIDENCE TO ME. THIS HAS BEEN DANGEROUS SINCE ON SOME TRIPS, I AM ON THE INTERSTATE GETTING GAS AND GET BACK ON WHEN THE STALL OCCURS. IS THERE ANY RECOURSE FOR ME? IT HAS BEEN OCCURING EVER SINCE DECEMBER, THAT IS WHEN IT STARTED, AT LEAST THAT IS WHEN IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING WITHOUT LETUP.

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AN ODOR OF FUEL EMITTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS, WHO NOTICED THAT AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF FUEL WAS LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND, AS A RESULT OF A RUPTURED FUEL LINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SERVICED BECAUSE THE DEALER INFORMED THAT THE PART NEEDED HAD NOT BEEN AVAILABLE FOR OVER A YEAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I FINALLY DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH ON IT BECAUSE IT'S VERY NERVE WRACKING AS IT HAPPENS ONCE YOU LEAVE THE SERVICE STATION AND ARE OUT IN TRAFFIC. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED BECAUSE OF A FAULTY GAS TANK! I FOUND THAT CHRYSLER HAS ADDRESSED THIS PROBLEM WITH SOME OF THEIR VEHICLES THIS IS OCCURRING TO, BUT NOT THE MINIVANS. THIS STARTED IN EARNEST IN APRIL 2014 AND HAS RECURRED WITH VARYING FREQUENCY SINCE THEN, WE HAVE TRIED SUPREME UNLEADED AND DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. WE HAVE TAKEN THIS TO THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP TWICE IN THE LAST 8 MONTHS. REPLACED VAPOR CANISTER AND EVAP PURGE SOLENOID IN APRIL REPLACED FUEL PUMP IN OCTOBER THEY SEEMED COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF THIS KNOWN AND LONG TERM-ISSUE. AFTER FUELING, THIS VEHICLE STALLS 1 TO 3 TIMES. WE DO NOT "TOP OFF THE TANK", BUT STOP FUELING WHEN PUMP SHUTS OFF. IT DOES NOT MATTER THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE. THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF AND POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES ARE LOST. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES THAT AN OBJECT, SUCH AS A MAIL BOX, IS ALMOST HIT BECAUSE IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THIS IS NO DOUBT A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE CONTROL OF THE CAR IS LOST. IF YOU PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC THINKING THE VEHICLE IS GOING TO ACCELERATE AND IT DOES NOT, YOU ARE IN DANGER OF BEING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. APPARENTLY THIS IS QUITE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THESE VANS. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER.

AFTER FILLING GAS TANK, VEHICLE STALLED AS I WAS TURNING BACK INTO TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE HAS THREATENED TO STALL SEVERAL TIMES AFTER FILL-UPS OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE AS DESCRIBED IN INVESTIGATION PS13-016 FOR SIMILAR MODELS FROM CHRYSLER. THAT INVESTIGATION HAS LED TO A VERY NARROWLY DRAWN WARRANTY EXTENSION. I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE ON SEPTEMBER 6, 2014 AND AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. I DO NOT HAVE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE. THE ENGINE STALLS WHILE I AM DRIVING OR IDLING SHORTLY AFTER REFUELING. I DO NOT TOP OFF THE GAS TANK. THIS HAS HAPPENED AFTER EACH REFUEL SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE (APPROXIMATELY 12 TIMES IN TOTAL). THE CAR WILL SPUTTER AND THEN STALL WHILE IDLING OR WILL JERK FORWARD VIOLENTLY AS THE ENGINE SPUTTERS WHILE I AM DRIVING AND THEN STALL. THIS MAY HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY IN THE GAS STATION PARKING LOT OR AS FAR AWAY AS 1 MILE DOWN THE ROAD AFTER REFUELING. I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED THIS MORNING WHEN THIS OCCURRED.

I PURCHASED A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. AFTER A FEW MONTHS WITHOUT INCIDENT, THE VEHICLE WOULD RANDOMLY STALL (NO POWER, ENGINE OFF, STOP IN ITS TRACKS). AFTER IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES, I REALIZED THIS ONLY OCCURS WHEN FILLING THE TANK FULLY, AFTER DRIVING A MINUTE OR TWO. IT IS SO DANGEROUS! LUCKILY, I HAD ALWAYS PULLED INTO A NEARBY STORE FOR ANOTHER ERRAND. IF IT HAD HAPPENED ON THE STREET, I WOULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED! THE VEHICLE STOPS WITH NO WARNING. ALL POWER SHUTS OFF AND ENGINE DIES. IT STOPS IN ITS PLACE AND YOU ARE UNABLE TO COAST AND PULL OVER. I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS.

RECENTLY PURCHASED 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY USED. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES OF FILLING UP WITH GAS, THE VAN STALLS OR NEARLY STALLS. THIS HAS HAPPENED EVERY TIME WE'VE FILLED UP THE VAN WITH GAS. CAR STALLS OR NEARLY STALLS WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE GAS STATION OR VERY SOON AFTER. CAR RESTARTS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM AND IS FINE UNTIL THE NEXT FILL UP. IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE VAPOR/LIQUID SEPARATOR IN THE FUEL TANK. MANY, MANY REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL AND REPLACE THE FUEL TANKS.

AFTER FILL UP, VEHICLE STALLS, THE ENGINE CUTS OFF AND THE VEHICLE LOSES ALL POWER AND POWER STEERING. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING REGULARLY FROM THE FIRST INSTANCE IN 2011. WHEN FUELING, THE VAN IS NEVER OVER FILLED; WE FILL UNTIL THE PUMP CLICKS OFF. THIS SEEMS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS GENERATION OF MINIVANS AS REPRESENTED IN ONLINE FORUMS TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM.

CHECKING ON LINE INDICATES THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO A NUMBER OF PEOPLE AND THE SOLUTION IS REPLACING THE GAS TANK, APPEARS THAT A VALVE IS ALLOWING FUEL TO ENTER A FILTER WHICH IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE STALLS WHENEVER FUEL TANK IS FILLED EVEN IF THE PUMP FULL CUTOFF IS USED. IF NOT FULL IT HESITATES AFTER SLOWING DOWN TO TURN AND THEN SPEED IS INCREASED. IT WAS FIRST DIAGNOSED AS A FUEL PROBLEM AND AN ADDITIVE WAS NEEDED. ON MARCH 8, 2012 IT WAS GETTING WORSE AND THE CHRYSLER DEALER SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY TOPPING OFF THE GAS TANK. THEY CHANGED THE FUEL FILLER CAP, NATURAL VACUUM LEAK DETECTOR,AND VAPOR CANNISTER. THE VEHICLES PERFORMANCE HAS NOT IMPROVED.

BEGINNING AROUND MID-2011, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL OUT IMMEDIATELY AFTER FILLING (BUT NOT OVER-FILLING) THE GAS TANK. FILL THE TANK, PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC, ENGINE STALLS. HOPE YOU DON'T GET HIT. THE DEALERSHIP EVENTUALLY CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY VALVE ON THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK THAT IS SUPPOSED TO PASS FUEL VAPOR THROUGH THE EVAP CANISTER TO THE ENGINE TO BURN OFF THE VAPOR THAT GETS DISPLACED AS THE TANK IS FILLED. THE VALVE WAS FAULTY AND WAS PASSING LIQUID FUEL. THE EVAP CANISTER WAS SATURATED AND PASSED LIQUID FUEL TO THE ENGINE WHEN THE ENGINE WAS EXPECTING VAPOR. IT STALLED OUT EVERY TIME. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY FLAW THAT CAN EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND PERSONAL INJURY. CHRYSLER SHOULD PAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

THE GAS PEDAL IS STICKING WHICH CAUSES ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. THE DRIVER APPLIES MORE PRESSURE TO OVERCOME THE RESISTANCE AND THEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LURCHES FORWARD. THE OWNER ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM BY APPLYING A SPRAY LUBRICANT TO THE ACCELERATION CABLE. THIS SEEMED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM BUT IN RECENT WEEKS, THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND MAY ONLY HAPPEN ONCE IN EVERY 1000 ACCELERATOR DEPRESSIONS. THE DANGER EXISTS WHEN OPERATING IN PARKING LOTS, AROUND STOP LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, AND IN PROXIMITY TO OTHER VEHICLES. THE DRIVER AT A STOP SIGN MAY RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL AND BEGIN INCHING FORWARD. WHEN THE DRIVER ATTEMPTS TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR, THERE IS RESISTANCE AND TO OVERCOME THE RESISTANCE, THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED FURTHER/HARDER. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD. FORTUNATELY THE RESISTANCE IS ON ACCELERATION AND NOT DECELERATION. WHEN THE FOOT IS LIFTED FROM THE GAS PEDAL THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN NORMALLY.

AFTER FUELING CAR AND LEAVING GAS STATION MY 2005 TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN SPUTTERS AND STALLS WHILE MOVING INTO TRAFFIC. THIS BEGAN TO HAPPEN OCCASIONALLY ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND NOW OCCURS EACH TIME THE CAR IS FILLED. I AM NOW FEARFUL OF PULLING OUT OF A STATION AS I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED WHEN MY CAR STALLED IN TRAFFIC. MY RESEARCH HAS FOUND THIS SAME COMPLAINT HAS BEEN FILED BY AT LEAST 27 OTHER OWNERS. THIS IS POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS FOR OWNERS, PASSENGERS AND OTHERS ON THE HIGHWAY. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE INVESTIGATED. I FEEL CHRYSLER SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM SINCE THIS OCCURS IN SO MANY OF THE 2005 T & C, HAVE A RECALL AND CORRECT THIS PROBLEM.
