ENGINE

5/22/2019 - BELLAIRE, MI
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR ON ITS OWN. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND POWERED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BILL MARSH FORD (LOCATED AT 408 W MILE RD, KALKASKA, MI 49646, (231) 258-9192) WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS UPGRADED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE ENGINE PERFORMED AS IF IT WERE MISFIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE AND TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. AFTER LEAVING THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WHILE AT A STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE REPLACED THE TIMING CHAIN ON HIS OWN, BUT NOT THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO BILL MARSH FORD GAYLORD (LOCATED AT 1928 OTSEGO AVE, GAYLORD, MI 49735, (989) 732-6737) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE VALVE ON THE LEFT BANK FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES AND STILL REMAINED AT THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.

5/21/2019 - LARAMIE, WY
I WAS DRIVING AROUND 50MPH AND EXPERIENCED SUDDEN DOWNSHIFTING, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, BUT ALL THEY DID WAS UPDATE SOFTWARE RATHER THAN FIXING THE REAL ISSUE: THE MOLDED LEAD FRAME. THEY ARE WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND THIS PART SHOULD BE REPLACED ON EVERY AFFECTED VEHICLE BEFORE THEY EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM RATHER THAN AFTER.

I WAS DRIVING HOME ON MAY 17, 2019 FROM WORK. I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT AND HEARD A LOUD POP. THE BACK WINDOW SHATTERED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE.I HAD THE DEFROSTER ON CLEARING THE DEW AND NOTHING ELSE HIT OR STRUCK THE GLASS IT JUST BURST OUT OF NO WHERE.

THE POWER STEERING FAILED, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, AND COULD EASILY RESULT IN A DEADLY ACCIDENT. I AM NOT FINDING A RECALL FOR THIS, ALTHOUGH IT IS OBVIOUS THAT FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT IT FOR YEARS. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS $2295 TO REPAIR IT.

STEERING STICKS. WHEN DRIVING AND CHANGING LANES OR TURNING ON SHARP CURVES, IT FEELS AS IF THE POWER STEERING BRIEFLY GOES OUT. WHILE TRYING TO CHANGE LANES AT A GAS STATION THIS PAST WEEKEND, STEERING BRIEFLY WAS STUCK CAUSING ME TO ALMOST HIT A NEIGHBORING VEHICLE. IT APPEARS CARCOMPLAINTS.COM HAS 320 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. I DID TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AFTER A PREVIOUS ISSUE SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND THEY CONFIRMED THE ISSUE.

LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE . WHETHER ACCELERATING TO PASS OR THE NEED TO ACCELERATE IN ANY INSTANCE OR ANY TIME!! IN A RECENT TRIP VIA INTERSTATE THE TRUCK LOST POWER !! IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAVELING ON SECONDARY ROADS AND ATTEMPTING TO PASS , I DO NOT BELIEVE I WOULD HAVE MADE IT. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON! I BROUGHT IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY RAN TESTS ON IT AND SAID IT DID CODE DTCP0016 WHEN DELETING THE CODE IT WOULD COME BACK!!! I HAVE PARKED THE TRUCK AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS TO THE NTSB ON SAME PROBLEMS. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW AND IT ONLY HAS 56000 MILES ON IT AN THE FORD SERVICE SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED!!!

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. GREEN FORD (3800 W WENDOVER AVE, GREENSBORO, NC 27407, (336) 292-8310) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED ONCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V075000 (POWER TRAIN). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
